Thank you so much for sharing this video. My daughter wanted 12 jars painted for her wedding. I had heard about making your own chalk paint before. I watched a few other videos, but the information was still pretty vague. I am grateful that you let us know that everything except calcium carbonate would cause the paint to dry quickly. Although I like the idea of using calcium carbonate, I did not want to go shopping again, or wait for an online order. I painted them this morning using baking soda and acrylic paint made for painting glass. I think they look really nice with just one coat. I only mixed a little paint and baking soda at a time, and I did need to add a little water on the brush from time to time, but it worked out well.
Calcium Carbonate is actually a calcium vitamin supplement and also a fertilizer ingredient. You can buy NOW brand Calcium Carbonate powder in an eight ounce container in just about any drug store or health food store. I supplement my dogs home cooked diet with it so I just happen to have the makings of chalk paint in my pantry! Thanks for the tutorial.
Great tutorial, Jennifer. Thank you Greg for getting the Calcium Carbonate and washing the paint brush. I now can find my favorite colors in chalk paint by making my own. Thank you again.⛄️🎄👍
Fascinating. I had no idea we could do this. What an amazing amount of energy, planning, and creativity you're sharing this month. And I'm not even a Circuit user - I have a Scan N Cut. Thank you.
Thank you, Jennifer, for testing the different chalk paint ingredients. As an artist, I make my own gesso so I keep plenty of calcium carbonate on hand. I plan to try this recipe. What a great find -- your desk! You did a great job painting it!
08/12/23 3:54 pm It’s been a long time since I’ve watched you, Me Jennifer and I love everything you do! I’ve had a couple rough years but God is good! I love your old desk and thank you for going through all the recipes for chalk paint! I realize this is a older video but you’re still the bomb! ❤
I have never worked with chalk Paint but I do want learn how to make it, I missed the live chat today so i'm watching it now and learning to make the chalk paint with you. Thanks so much Jennifer !🥰
You are amazing and so generous! Thank you for teaching me about my explore2. You are constantly teaching and encouraging me to unleash all those ideas floating around my head!
Jennifer, you inspire me so much. I absolutely love watching all of your wonderful videos. I have also tried some of them. Keep up what your doing by helping others. Love you Jennifer! Happy Holidays to you and yours
Watching replay due to prior appointment. Instead of trying to cover up the staple holes, I think I am going to try distressing the frame a little more with like a small tack hammer and chain or something similar, then stain or paint. Thanks for todays lesson. I will be watching tonight.
Soo upset I missed another live! I'm working on my light up Angel still, going to print the gingerbread houses today. AND I just got the supplies to make the wreath. Still just need the 18" Christmas tree, have everything else-- just might make the darn tree with the garland ties lol. I also have a vase to paint with chalk paint and almost everything to make this year's sign
I’m having so much problems finding the bonus entry page also getting the live videos while live. The times maybe I’m in Louisiana right now my time is 6:53
Can one use acrylic paint instead of latex paint? Excellent tutorial, well thought out. By the way, Annie Sloan did NOT invent chalk paint. It has been in use since ancient times. Pliney the Elder makes reference to chalk paint.
True. Yes, the main difference between the two is their ingredients. Although both are water-based, latex releases a lower amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than acrylic does.
Not really but there are other tutorials out there for distressed chalk paint. Here is another tutorial where chalk paint was used. jennifermaker.com/diy-door-hangers/

For small amounts, I just grind up antacids like Tums they are food-grade calcium carbonate. I buy it at Dollar stores.

What do you think about wood vs.canvas? Maybe different recipes work differently on different mediums??? I am experimenting too.🙏🙏
That would be a good experiment.
What about corn starch? Have you tried using it?? Also, if we made a white paint, what would you suggest for colouring individual containers?
We used the mixtures in the video 😊🌻

Here is some help for you. jennifermakeracademy.com/25daygiftaway/
Is it possible to start with white latex paint and then add colors? If so, what ingredients would you use? Food coloring . . . Or what?😊
Test it out to see what works for you. jennifermaker.com/make-liquid-chalk-diy-recipe/

Have you tested how well each rubs off or sands for the distressed look?
