I’ve made several of these using Bernat blanket yarn weight 6. It is my go to pattern for Bernat blanket yarn! I love how fast it goes and how soft and snuggly it is! I use a size N hook with this pattern using Bernat blanket yarn. 3 skeins make a good sized lap blanket or a large toddler blanket. I like to use 2 skeins of a variegated Bernat yarn then one skein of a matching solid for a border. Try this, you will love it!
So much clearer than another I just watched. With you simply repeating "single crochet, chain one...etc" made it so much easier to understand! Thank you!
it’s 7:28pm, I’m already washed up and in my pajamas, and I’m about to change and run to Michael’s so I can get yarn to start this project tonight. so excited!!
I agree with Cathie's comment, this is 5 years ago and I wish I had seen this earlier. It never dawned on me to not join and skip past it! Easy peasy! Beautiful work! Appreciate you sharing your craft!
Thank you so much. You showed the easiest way to it. Cheers ❤
This is so fantastic! It took me a while to figure out the magic circle because that was new to me, but the rest came together so easily. Thank you so much!! I will try and send a pic when I finish. I'm using the color Grape Jelly and it color changed right away, so satisfying! ☺💜💜
I cant tell you how helpful this is (I wish I could give it 100 thumbs up). Im a newbie, and have been struggling with joining this blanket for days !!!! Im so happy I found you. Thanks so much
This tutorial is AWESOME! Thanks
This is so easy, thank you! I watched a different moss stitch square tutorial first. Kind of confusing so I went looking for another and found yours. Blew my mind with the "do not join". So much easier! Thank you!
On the 4th side of the 1st round worked into the MR if you chain one before going to round 2 you avoid the minor flaw. The ch1 allows you to skip the first sc without pushing it forward which causes it to show. The ch1 gives it a seamless flow into the next round.
Once you notice it you can’t unsee it.
What is meant by "MR"? I can't think of what you mean there.
MR is magic ring.
She begins the tutorial by working into it.
Love love love how you teach this moss stitch in the round. Been looking for a good one. Finally, works up beautifully. I believe not joining is the key. Thank you so much.
By far the best demonstration and explanation for making a square in Moss Stitch. ❣❣💖💖❣❣
Thank you so much for such an easy tutorial!!You make it so easy to follow without having to turn and slip st and all that jazz. I wish I had seen this tutorial sooner. Thank you again! I can't wait to see more of your tutorials.
ive been crocheting for 30 yrs. this is the most mind blowing thing ive ever learned lol. made me dizzy the first time. thanks for the great video!
By far the best tutorial on it. I’ve watched a few and tried their approaches and very frustrating. Yours is perfect. Thanks!
Thank you for making this video! It’s excellent ~ and hearing the repetitive words you say, comes into my head as I’m doing them on my own.
I can not tell you how much I have struggled with moss Stitch squares ( well I just did tell you) then I saw your video. Thank you thank you thank you. I can now churn out these squares in no time and there is no ugly join line.
Love it! It is actually just as pretty on the reverse side!
This is fabulous!
Love it.
I made 6 baby blankets with this pattern.
Thank you so much!
I've tried so many patterns using this yarn, and I finally found the best one. Thank you for your tutorial and how easy it is.
Such a simple but so effective pattern. Thank you so much for sharing. This is great. 👍😊❤️
Thank you very much. It’s very easy once you have shown how to do it properly as you have. Again th layout.❤
To fasten off at end of blanket see 11minutes Big Caron cakes wt 4 but hook size don’t know. But this is one of the best videos I have watched for awhile. Good job and thank you for your help and time .
Love the starting technique you use compared to other methods! Beautiful!
Love this pattern.
I’ve made 2 blankets now.
Thank you!!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am making a beautiful, soft little blanket with Lion Brand Cupcake. It would have taken me forever to figure out how make a square so I really appreciate your taking the time to show it. I think this yarn and this stitch will make a nice scarf also because it is a finer yarn and a close stitch and definitely super soft. thanks again
thank you so much you give great instructions . i haven't crocheted in years yet viewing a few times and i got it down pat now on to make a sloth baby blanket :)
Perfect project for a newbie! I made a gorgeous baby blanket for my nephew. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you , very good and usefull explantion
Got my umbrella yarn today and starting love this stitch
I use a stitch marker to beginning of row. That way I get even square. I'm using Mandala yarn. It's going to take forever. But, I love this stitch. You're a great teacher. Thank you.
A big THANK YOU for this stitch tutorial 💙
I want to thank you so much for creating this tutorial for the moss stitch blanket. This stitch is one of my many favorites. I started my blanket today and it is beautiful so far.
Luv, Luv, Luv this blanket, Thank You for your tutorial!
This pattern works up beautifully and the video is super easy to follow for a first timer on this particular technique. Thank you!! I've done this in Bernat baby blanket tiny and it is gorgeous!
I love this pattern!!! ❤ thanks so much for this video!!!
I've done many headbands using the moss stitch. Looking forward to doing a.blanket now. Thank you!
I just finished my first preemie blanket and absolutely love the pattern. Thank you for doing the math to make this possible. I will be making many more and sharing this pattern with the ladies in my Threads of Love group.
It’s lovely well done and Thankyou for showing me my next blanket project.
I so appreciate your Posting. This is a LOVELY Block!
I -can- see where this should be limited to blocks...because IF it grows TOO large the 'stripe' would be so skinny, or only partial-round, and loose the effect. Thinking ahead...
Thank you so much for this marvelous tutorial!
I may use this on my next blanket. I have some thinner cotton yarn that I want to use. I need to probably start it in a square and I need a tighter stitch. This may do the trick. I will have to give it a try.
You made this so easy. Thank you
I haven’t worked with the carron yet! Love the stitch...must try!!
Thank you for posting this tutorial....I printed the pattern, however, I had problems following the instructions....keep the patterns and tutorials coming.....
Love this stitch, going to make a blanket...thank you for this tutorial :)

I love this stitch in the triangular shape and square.
Thank you for your direction
I love this thank you I will try it
Awesome video! I make actually finish this! Thank you!
Thank you I'm working on it now
wow this is supercool...going to try in caron one pound Azure yarn...love that:) thank you
My school color I have to get this for my next blanket
Thanks so much I understand everything you say. I'm going to do one now
Could u do this with separate colors and not a yarn that u don’t have to change colors? So let’s say I wanted a rainbow look blanket with different colors every couple rounds could u do that with this? If so.. how do I end each round and begin new with different colors?
Thank you 🙏🏻
Perfect for a square !!! But please is it possible to shape a rectangle ??? I tried but it looks like ... :-((
Very nice 🌹 thanks for great idea
Gotta try it! Thank you!
This is a great tutorial. I love how patient you are with your instructions. This might sound like a crazy idea, but how do you think this would look as an octagon?
How about a 30/60 block...Hummm...
Terrific thanks
Thank you for making this! Love it!!!
This tutorial was fantastic!!!! I was looking for both Caron Big Cake projects AND moss stitch in a square. I’ve already started my blanket thanks to you. Subscribed!
Love it thanks
Love ❤️ love ❤️ love it!! A great alternative to the boring granny squares!
I hate doing the Magic Ring. Is there any alternative to it?
Ch4, join in 1st with a slip stitch. Work 1st round over tail end. Pull tight to close.
Sewrella is the one that did the Crochet Half Square Triangle Grannies with the two colors of white and mango
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Could you post a link to the triangle shawl you were talking about at the beginning of this video?
Love this very much
How long does it take to make a baby blanket in this stitch?
do you have a border for this beautiful blanket? Thank you for the pattern. I've always loved the moss stitch and you've given me another reason to love it :)
Beautiful! And I thought the Caron Cakes were on the thicker side too...I'll actually check them out now!! Love the colours and it looks like it would work up so quickly!! Hmmm do I sense a new project this weekend??
Very good idea. A simple tutorial but I have a huge doubt how end it? Make a slip stitch and be happy? Thank you in advance
Thank you so much! Can you also change colors in this method? Like when you dont have yarn that has colour change in it? Thankss x
Mine seems to be twisting/spiraling. What am i doing wrong?
Hi
Did you join it at the end
I'm just trying mine out
Probably change the hooksize
Thanks, love it....cant wait to try! 😊😘
Wow!
love your moss stitch in the square. Do yo have any ideas hiw to change colIrs.? I am just not a big fan of self stripe. Tanks for you video it is very well done.
I assume you just change colors at the point where you'd normally join. That's what I plan to do 😛
I wish there was more a visional contrast between the white background and the yarn, having a hard time seeing it.
What if you want to change colour ? When do you do it ?
Can you do this in two colors like Crochet Half Square Triangle Grannies where she used white and mango .. if so can you make a tutorial
This is WAY cool. I am headed to the tutorial now, but 2 questions: First, doe the square hve a tendency to twist if you keep going i the same direction? Second, just in case the tutorial doesn't address it, what if you *want* to change colors now and then?
Hi Barbara I was wondering the same, about how to change colours,, like for using scraps,, Love the pattern, Happy crocheting from Ireland,,
So how do you end it? Since you didn’t slip stich join anywhere
Thank you so much for tutorial, I bought bernat pop yarn, will it be ok to use this one.
You keep saying not to join. I think "join with a slip stitch" cleaner. Your beggini by square is a touch off centered and a little Twinkie. That is because at the join you should be doing a slip stitch. Helpful hint. @repeatcrafterme
Such a nice blanket this will be. I have a question. After you do a corner, do you chain one before you go into the chain space?
Yes
Can you do HDC instead of SC and have it look like the same pattern
I would say technically no. A moss stitch is a moss stitch for its iconic little vs which you wouldn't get with half double. But you could still do the half double. It just wouldn't have the same v look to it. Overall, I think it would still look nice and work up quicker. Give it a try.
Why does mine started to have rounded edges 😩 how do I fix it
I like this pattern, but my square looks wavy.
If I want to change colors do I do it at the corner?
How would you change the yarn out if you needed to
Can you do this a rectangle?
Thank you for this. I love it. But I have a question. You said you were doing the moss stitch, but you only worked single crochet. Was that a mistake in the title?
The moss stitch is single crochet chain 1 single crochet that's the pattern
What shade is this yarn? Pretty
How did you make the tassels for this one?
i wish i could learn how to crochet a moss stitch square blanket, but i dont know how to start it and you didnt explain it. thanks 10/10 tutorial.
How do you get yours so straight? I feel like mines wavy on the ends and not very straight or "square"
I had the same issue. Did you ever solve this problem?
How do you get rid of the tail you started with?
Use a darning needle to weave in the tail.
This is cool!!! BUT for the life of me I cant do a magic circle!!! Ive tried and tried urghhhh so do you have to start with a magic circle? If not can I start with a chain then slip stitch in first chain etc? New to crochet sorry if a silly question!! If its not possible guess I need to keep at this magic circle deal...
Nicole M I don't like to use the magic circle. I just chained 3 and slip stitched into the first one to make a ring. It works just the same and I feel it's much more secure.
I had trouble with the magic circle myself. There is a really good video on here ruclips.net/video/p298HxgsO1s/видео.html. It really helped me. good luck :)
@@dutifuldoe Thank you so much!!!
@@effieshaw4582 Thanks Ive been practicing!!!
IS THERE A TUTORIAL WITH CHANGING COLORS. NOT FROM A VARIEGATED YARN. FROM DIFFERENT SKEINS.
I'm thinking of doing this project with different skeins instead of self striping. I plan to work however many rows of a color I want and then end in a corner with a slip stitch. Then I will join the new color with a "standing single crochet" (or you could tie on the new color, do a chain one, then single crochet), chain 2, single crochet and then work on as normal. There's many ways to join a new color into a work but I would suggest no matter what you do, to join in the corner. It's always easiest to hide that way lol.
