This is the finest program of Christmas music I've ever seen.
I recorded it many times on VHS tapes in the 1980s, and gave those tapes to friends.
Well done.
Great to have video of Aled Jones. Thank you very, very much! Your generosity is much appreciated.
Best of the Christmas carols of the century ever made. Beautifully song and well organized. Thank God for musicians 🎖🎖🎖
What A Beautiful Christmas Gift Of Music 🎶
アレッド・ジョーンズ ✨小さな町の店で見つけた私の息苦しいクリスチャン女学校での青春の昇華✨どんな教会に行くよりも癒され、どんな優秀なシスター先生よりも歌うことの喜びを教えられました。
Some of these comments are absurd...Instead of enjoying the beauty of sound and vision in this video some poor souls whine of hair spray with some of the singers...how ridiculous! This collection of carols for Christmas is absolutely the finest I've ever encountered in all my time on this Earth. This complete vid used to played every Christmas eve on our PBS station here in New York City (channel 13)...but alas no more. Wotta pity, but I's sooooooooo happy to have found it here in YT! Many thanx for posting. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to all! Peace...
+AladdinSaneNYC Some wonderful singers in the Royal College of Music Chamber Choir too - No doubt you realized that the bass soloist, Gerald Finley is a very well known now, as is one of the mezzos, Sarah Connolly ...!
+AladdinSaneNYC Word.

I miss this from Channel 13 too!
I remember my local PBS station airing this at 6:00AM on Christmas Eve morning and Christmas Day morning. I was the only one awake, and I would enjoy the carols, the choir and the beautiful works of art by myself. PBS stopped airing it in the early morning, but Thank You for posting this, so I can continue to carry on my own private little Christmas tradition. Wishing you the Happiest New Year!
This was my "after putting on the turkey" show in the 1980s --- lots of memories. I wish PBS would have more shows like this on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. They have gotten away from it.
That soprano descant on Coventry Carol is pure gold.
And O Little Town of Bethlehem tune FOREST GREEN by Rafe Vaughan Williams is pure gold, too!
purety, beauty and gentleness..
Not impossible to change the world with a song.
Amazingly Christmasty!!!
Errr yeah, it would be seeing as how it is a performance of Christmas carols...
Every year I looking forward to touch Christmas season atmosphere and listen to Christmas Carol too.
I miss Christmas Carols which are well performed.
Eeeeeeyaaayyyyyy!!! I finally found them!! This has got to be one of my favorite productions/recording/performance and selections of Christmas Carols! I think I've worn out my vhs tape of this performance. Taped it off a PBS station about 16 years ago. My Holiday season is never complete until I've watched/listened to this at least once. I didn't know the dvd existed! Just ordered one! Never too late. Thank you, Amazon and Kulter Video!
You may also enjoy Libera's Christmas in Ireland dvd.
Magnificent & Magical! Thank you for sharing this with the world!
wooooooow talented aled may God bless you
Definitely! He was my favorite treble.
He Himself and Mir'yam - Mary would sing this way !
The sincerity and authenticity we need today. Thank You !

Thank you for posting, it's a wonderful and magical journey , the voices sounded absolutely mesmerizing!
✨素敵な映像✨

The song at 50:30 is like the most Christmasy song of them all. Love it.
It certainly expresses the way I feel, for at least a few hours, every Christmas.
"here we came a-wassailing" is the name
I love each of the succeeding Victorian prints and cards that go with the song, complete with the enchanting ending of We Wish You A Merry Christmas. It's the program's most delightful highlight I enjoy immensely.🥲
@@isabelbeckerman9226 Me too : )
@@merseybeat1963 😉🤟
It is like listen in the cathedral even listen from You tube.
Revisiting, January 8th..love it.
❤❤❤
Thanks and your video is appreciated.
very nice... i wish i could sing like that
How is this collection not on Spotify !
I think I have some of it on an LP somewhere! It must have been released on CD too..?
Aled jones Legend!
i so agree, that is until his balls dropped! now he is just another bland and faceless 'celeb'...two a penny...i say forget the 'man' and treasure the boy's legacy.
Another urban myth, Tim. They don't "drop". Unless there's something anatomically amiss, 'they' are there from birth. His adult voice is streets better than many so-called singers of today
Алед за все твои детские выступления - тебе нужно было 10 золотых дисков дать. Спасибо твоим родителям что ты есть и поешь.. Храни тебя Господь. ❤🧡💜💯💯💯👏👏👏🙏
It was wonderful; I just wish they did The First Noel.
Great!很棒!
14:10 hermosisima pintura y precioso arreglo. Lo disfruto mucho.
Been looking for this for a long time. Awesome.
🌹💕🌹💕🌹💕🎄🎄🎄💋🙏
was O Little Town of Bethlehem, the English version, in this program? I hope so...FOREST GREEN is the best tune ever written. RIP to Sir David, his arrangements are the reason I became an Anglophile.
Has it ever been done without all the artworks involved? It's wonderful, but I would prefer to see the choristers.
No, I'm afraid not, unless you want to purchase the CD for this program. Carols for Christmas is the only original broadcast first telecast in 1985 on PBS television. They're beautiful, Tracy. You can appreciate the entire artwork while the carolers sing the holiday songs in sync with each museum work.
you can plainly see young Amelia in his face :)
Relax, keepcalmycarryon! -- Aled Jones is Welsh, and I believe the name is Welsh for Alex (Jones, FYI, is a very common Welsh last name). He was a little boy soprano (one of the best ever, if you listen) when this recording was made, but is now a burly tenor... so spare us the homophobic rant, at least in this case....
See the portrait of Jesus as a tot and he has golden hair, well Pontius Pilot in his letter to Caesar described Jesus just like that. Many youtubers are coming out and saying Jesus was black. Also wondering if Prince Charles, William or Harry were young sopranos. ?
Can someone tell me the name of the song that begins at 12:10
The name of the enchanting carol (12:10) is Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming, written by German composer Michael Praetorius in 1609 🥰

@@isabelbeckerman9226 Thank you so much!
@@gracelizzabeth You're very welcome, Grace. Happy Holidays 😉✌
I was raised Christian. I was a choirboy, I went to church every Sunday until I was confirmed. I used to like singing in the children's choir. I'll admit, there was a sorta rock-star thrill, singing in front of the church. Perhaps that's what inspired me to teach myself guitar. I find theology in music fascinating. But, I feel like Aled Jones missed out on the truly spiritual experience of adolescent rebellion...

They surely dumped him as soon as his voice changed. Then he was free (adolescence begins when being a boy soprano ends).
What year is that?
Do you mean this hour holiday special originally aired on WNET TV? I was released in 1985.
The year was 1985 when this holiday special first aired on PBS television.
What date is this please?
It was first released in 1985 on PBS television.
typo: use to play...(sorry..)
This is not a real Boys Choir .... The female singers are, am sure, but they 'blank out' that very unique sound that treble boys can give.
Aled = Alan
No Aled - he is Welsh
It is pathetic that some low forms would make ignorant and homophobic remarks about a ten year old boy soprano. Shame on them.
To the best of my knowledge Aled Jones is not Gay, nor was he ever molested. It is sick beyond belief to think of harming a child.
The hole in the ozone layer was caused by the sheer volume of hairspray used by just one man, the one who sings 45:03 - 47.26.
Knappa22 come on we all did it back then...Brut 33 or Cossak, actually I prefer the pictures to the music in this video!!!!!!
+Knappa22 No everyone knows the hole in the ozone comes from people praying too hard.
+Knappa22 Gerry use hairspray!?! However, that man is now the ultra famous opera singer Gerald Finley who just received the Order of Canada.
***** Wow an order of Canada that and about $2.00 should get him a medium coffee....in Canada
24:31 Baby Jesus looks but really annoyed from the diaper "What is he yawning"?
Don't be blasphemous, wicked one!!!!
And then puberty vocal change came and destroyed his plans...
+giugitzu actually no- he continued singing and is now a successful tv presenter and radio dj
Aled Jones saves the day, but the choir is not up to British standards of excellence.
Sadly, no choir without boy trebles can ever meet the standard sought.
Not a fail, but in my books deserving of not much more than six out of ten
There is no point in debating that which is subjectively visceral.
Suffice to say, there is refreshing dichotomy between our mutual interpretation as to what constitutes the excellence of the quintessential British choir.
I don't know much about musicology in the choral sense, but I find The Royal College of Music Chamber Choir one of the most talented in England. Despite your discontent with the choir's vocal competence, each performer, especially Aled Jones, truly resonated skillfully in each Christmas song with grace and ebulliency.
Lovely music...cannot stand A Jones :-(
For God's sake, Arthur, WHY?
Touche, Philistine. Ergo, what manner of name is "Aled?" I would proffer a guess that a lisping homosexual by the name of "Alan" finally gave up arguing about his pronunciation and orientation, in that order. Ugh.
Pay no mind and on with your day.
very lovely what year was this filmed?
