I am a retired expatriate several thousand miles away from my beloved England where I grew up and lived for 65 years. English Carols and traditional Christmas songs bring me back to my parents, my childhood and my boarding schooldays, my country. I feel connected to something ancient and good - part of a continuum that has a deep but inexpressible meaning. I have these feelings more intensely these last few years because it seems my culture and Christian heritage is being crushed and washed away.

These definitely hit harder as you get older. Feelings of joy, sadness (remembering lost loved ones) and awe at the true meaning of Christmas.
What if God didn't give us His Son? What would we celebrate? Or would we? We'd find a reason to get-together wouldn't we! But the people that walked in darkness HAVE SEEN A GREAT LIGHT: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death (spiritual & physical), upon them has THE LIGHT shined.
Have we grown accustomed to the story of our Saviours birth and have lost the wonder and humble appreciation of it - our first Love?

People of Jeremiah's time complained of "the burden of the Lord"! The Lord in righteous indignation said "What burden"! " I will even forsake you, for you have perverted the words of the living God"! Jeremiah 23:33,36

You just described my feelings too. Every Christmas I'm full of nostalgia, reminiscing family times when we spent beautiful moments with my parents at Christmas. Now that I have my children and I do my best to make memories for them during Christmas, it's not the same for me.
Merry Christmas to everyone! Jesus is the light of the world and darkness can never prevail over light. As the dark night gives way to the morning light, so shall the Light of God be revealed eventually to the darkness of this fallen world!

The playing, Singing, and listening to the Christ-mas music of the Church is a life giving experience. It settles ones nerves, so stirred and anxed by the media centered world. The focus is of course about the anticipated coming of the chosen one of God most high. In every language this is easy to understand. But the music of the true Church reveals the wonder of God's plan, so all may come to the full knowledge and experience God's love through the miraculous life of Jesus. Come, let us listen, and take in the good work of a loving God. 1 John 4.

You are not the only one. This year Christmas carols are not heard anymore on the radio, here in Spain. Not to mention the old traditional sounds of tambourines in kids' hands on the street. At least nativities are still set up, but for how long? Yes, our culture and Christian heritage is washed away softly, in an unnoticed way.
Haven't really been feeling the Christmas this year. It's the second Christmas since my dad died, and the family has sort of drifted apart. But hearing Kings choir doing these songs the right way kind of brings me a spark.

Xmas brings so many conflicting emotions. Joyful memories of years long ago when I was young. This year it's dealing with a parent declining rapidly physically and mentally. I wish you all peace this troubled year.

I feel even more lonely at Christmas. My parents haven't got long the future doesn't look good as I see myself getting older and life gets more difficult

I honestly feel less lonely and closer to them during Christmas. If we view Christmas as a celebration of a real Savior who overcame not only sin for all, but also death for us too, we can enjoy the promise of being with them again. ❤

Absolutely beautiful. My mother was from Ireland and lived for a time in London before coming to the USA. As I grow older, I find joy in knowing I have fewer years ahead of me than behind. I so look forward to spending eternity with Jesus on the new earth. There will be wonderful music there too!

@@ColtraneTaylorthe number isn’t literal. It’s symbolic like the majority of the book of Revelation. 1000 is used in other Scriptures to refer to totality. For instance “God owns the cattle on 1000 hills.“

As an ex chorister (50+ years ago) it's a joy to hear these songs performed so excellently. Trying to sing the descants, but having to do it a few octaves lower these days!!
I'm 62 and I have been listening to these carols as sung by K'sCC as far back as I can remember. As a small child, I waited excitedly for the descant to be sung and that thrill has never worn off. I can't sing it well either anymore but give it a go when the house is empty...
You can do it! I'm 76 and provide the strong harmonies for our madrigal group.
Just keep singing.
Oh, do I miss singing the descants. I used to just soar; now I can only croak and can only remember what it felt like.

I could very well share your sentiments as I grew up in an English public school in Darjeeling India and subsequently spent 10 years in England where I had my higher education and work experience.
The Carol service in our school was conducted in the same spirit, tradition and style.
I quite agree that Christian values are being crushed and washed away.
I wish I had a time machine which could take me back to those glorious years.

I feel the same way of by gone days and. boarding school,happy times. Returning to UK after 50 years I now feel more at home on the Continent.
UK has lost so much of its culture which the Continent has especially music, live theatre and less push / shove /politeness feel more at one in Europe & Scandinavia. That's ME. ❤
It's comforting to hear this, as next year my husband and I are determined to leave the UK for warmer weather and a bit of peace and sanity. Sadly, everything seems to be declining in the UK and we no longer feel at home in our country of birth.

Wonderful singing that infuses Christmas time with the real meaning for this celebration. It brings back many joyful memories, memories spent with those who loved the Lord and lived authentically for Him, who have gone on to eternal glory. It would be nice to see Sir David Willcocks conducting. I would like to study his conducting technique. If anyone could direct me toward extensive coverage of his conducting, it would be much appreciated. I only got to meet him once for a few minutes back on Dec. 5, 2008 after his conducting Handel's Messiah at Metropolitan United in Toronto. He was a very delightful, articulate and humble man.

The Lord came to earth as a human to say to you: “I love you, I accept you exactly as you are in this moment and I want to fill you up with real peace, real joy and real faith. Please invite me into your life and I will come and give you the help you need”.
The carols directed by Willcox and Ledger is generally slower than Cleobury and I prefer the slower pacing. Unfortunately the bad editing here - the items follow on without pauses - spoils it and there's no reason to brand it as relaxing music.
