I’m watching all the RUclips videos I can find in preparation for your One Two Tree QAL and I appreciate seeing how far your level of confidence has grown from the recording of this video to present time. It’s very encouraging!

You are doing great and have gotten me excited again to start finishing my quilts. I'd lost my desire to quilt . I don't do Instagram so I wish you'd post your progress on you tube. Thanks again!

Oh my gosh! I finally understand how to attach my ruler foot properly. You are wonderful showing the start of how to! Thanks-😊🙂

If it helps, Handi Grip is what we use with The Quilters Groove Rulers here in the United States. Also, you can try with the feed dogs up because the ruler foot doesn’t grip the fabric the same way AND that little bit of resistance may help with quilting with rulers.
Hope this helps a little for everyone!
    Much love 💞

I’ve tried ruler work and I’m much better at free motion. Your videos are interesting and very clear. Keep at it!

    Suggestion:
Put non slip dots on the underside of the ruler to prevent the ruler slipping while sewing
Use a supreme slider Teflon sheet on your sewing machine to allow the quilt to easily manoeuvre under the free motion/ruler foot

Thank you so much Wendy! Those dots sounds great, would love to try those out. I heard different stories about the supreme slider. Would be fun to test it :)

Thanks for the inspiring demonstration! I have not tried rulers yet but I think I also want to give it a try. Biggest issue I have is also managing the bulk of the quilt on my machine-I find not using too thick of a quilt batting can help manage this problem.

Handi Grip is THE BEST product to stick to the back of your rulers to keep it from shifting. It’s kind of like sandpaper but it is clear so you can still see the lines on your ruler and it really helps the ruler to not slip without even having to press down very hard on it.

I can’t wait to try this. Where do you get your clear foot? How do you keep the ruler from sliding? Also, what is the purpose of the gloves?

  • @lindalosier5989

I like using the ruler but I have struggles with it too. It seems like it is harder to move the quilt with it and I get skipped stitches and thread breakage. I know I just need to practice more. You are doing a great job with it!

Thank you for your review. I have been considering trying a ruler. Just awaiting delivery of my new machine. Janome Atelier 6. Anyone got any comments about that machine. There aren’t many reviews out there.

I bought the clarity ruler foot bundled with a straight and curved quilting ruler from their site. I love their rulers with the little knobs that stick up to hold onto. My machine is a Juki TL2010Q so I have the height to fit those knobs. However the actual foot didn't work with my machine due to adjusting its height against my quilt. I had to have the foot very low against my quilt in order to prevent skipped stitches because of flagging/flapping. But when I put it that low it was too low to move over any seams. Eventually I bought an official Juki ruler foot that hops and it works great now, but my visibility is not as good because it is a metal foot and not transparent.

I manage pretty well with the clarity and the metal ruler foot Janome provided with my machine. I too really really wish for a hopping clarity. They just stared selling slant shank, maybe if we keep begging she’ll go for a hopper.

    • @TheMinot60
      @TheMinot60 3 года назад

You could try with the clarity on to relieve pressure foot pressure when you come to seams. I don’t know if that would be to irritating, probably. I can jump from low to a higher elevation of the foot with a push of one button, makes it doable.

I have a Janome 9900, would this foot work with my machine? Also, I remember hearing that I should place the ruler a quarter inch from the stitch line, but you don’t appear to be doing that. Is that something I need to do? You did great for your first time, and you are inspiring me to give this a try. Thank you!!!

I’m new to quilting and enjoying so far. I’m trying to quilt using the quilting rulers etc but find I really have to push the quilt as it doesn’t move easily. I’ve bought a slider and I’ve dropped the feed dogs .. what am I doing wrong ?

I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm new to quilting and watching your videos makes me feel relaxed and confident. I'm still not getting notifications when you upload a new video, so I tried unsubscribing and subscribing again...making sure to hit the bell to get ALL notifications. Now, I just have to wait and see if that worked. Thank you for sharing your time and craft with all of us. 😊🌹

Hi Sheila, thank you so much 💕 So happy to hear that they make you feel confident! We all start somewhere and that's all good 😊 I just learned that RUclips purposely doesn't show all videos to everyone even when you've hit the bell sign.. so nothing we can do about that I'm afraid. My videos go up every thursday 8PM CET ;)

I think some sticky tape on the bottom of the ruler helps move the quilt 😉

I have this same machine. It drove me crazy when I first starting FMQ and using rulers. I found that leaving the feed dogs up and setting the stitch length to zero was the only way to do away with tension issues and constantly breaking threads. Now it's wonderful to work with.

Thanks Loraine, yes that is a difficult aspect of free motion quilting and even more tricky while doing ruler work I think. Will put it on my list to include some tips and tricks in a video!

Putting a little table on the right side will help with the weight of the quilt. My biggest struggle has been to remember to breathe and watch your posture my shoulders always hunch up when quilting. Stitch around the edge of the quilt too stops batting from being caught in the sewing.I love how you show you quilting slowly and not super fast which would put me off trying and your enthusiasm is inspiring I subscribed after watching one minute of your video. I have found it impossible to use a ruler with a large quilt because it is hard to move the quilt through the small throat space on my machine.
