    Love the continuous fiber carbon, tech that actually matters. That's carbons number one strength so when frame makers bond sections of tubes it defeats the purpose.

  • @lukasmoser5246
    @lukasmoser5246 Месяц назад +6

    I have the Racemax version of this bike. The frame was delivered after "only" 8 months, I needed to threaten to cancel the order for them to ship me a frame of another customer who has been waiting even longer, but was apparently screaming less than I did at that point in time. Two major disappointments with the frame: 1/ The holes for the bottle cages on the seat tube are so low that the water bottles touch the down tube and made a dent in the carbon of the down tube (I tried 3 different bottle cages). 2/ For unknown reasons, the 3T engineers in their infinite wisdom equipped the Strada Italia and the Extrema Italia with a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), but not the Racemax Italia. In conclusion: A sick looking bike for sure, but the 3T customer experience is just plain awful and the engineering of the frame is not future proof for current developments on the groupset market. I'm in the process of selling the frame and wait for the new Open UPPER. Ciao 3T after 5+ years.

    • @petesjk
      @petesjk Месяц назад

      I suspect that UDH wasn’t finalized when they originally developed the molds. Thus, you have the first Italia frames without UDH, and more recent ones with UDH.

    I had that bike and as dope as it looks it was incredibly stiff and the rear tire clearance was actually an issue with pebbles and mud

    • @timtaylor9590
      @timtaylor9590 Месяц назад +1

      The seat tube looks tall for a 51 that's most of a frames compliance feature. Actually tire clearance is the biggest compliance feature of a bike, now a days gravel bikes need mtn bike tire clearance.

    • @petesjk
      @petesjk Месяц назад

      To be fair, the over-oversized tubing is designed for stiffness on purpose. This means the tradeoff is less possible tire clearance, which the designers tried to compensate with the double bent chainstays, which required even more oversizing of tubing, which made the frame stiffer, and so on. You’re looking at design trying to take advantage of carbon fiber tech, but also exposing the design disadvantages of carbon fiber tech.

  • @MaartenOverweg
    @MaartenOverweg Месяц назад

    Love the look of that bike, but the tyre clearance is giving me anxiety...😅 Just a little bit of peanut butter mud and gravel on those tyres and that beautiful carbon will get an extra sanding. Changing the tyres when it's a little muddy sounds like a pain in the neck. Can you do an update video after a couple rides about the bike? Loved the vibe of the video! Nice New Bike Day giddy vibe!

    I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around why 3T decided to give these bikes such an unbelievably tall stack height, and I think I’ve determined that they must’ve designed this bike around riding in the drops a lot. I guess that makes sense for the single track riding they say this was designed for. Still kind of a bummer that it’s close to impossible to get a good race position on these bikes without going down a size or two and running a giant long dong stem

    • @bicyclestation
      @bicyclestation  Месяц назад +1

      I 100% agree. That’s why I don’t have one. For chase that’s less of a concern but it’s still a big bike for her

    • @petesjk
      @petesjk Месяц назад

      I’m also wondering why so many ‘gravel’ bikes have such tall stack heights. I suspect there’s a mtb/cyclocross design logic/bias that has crept in, even though these are basically just dirt road bikes. But for the majority of customers, an upright, long ride comfort position does make sense, but I wouldn’t consider it a race position.

    • @UpcountryUltra
      @UpcountryUltra Месяц назад +1

      I concur. I'm in what I'd consider the target market for this bike(as a prior 3T Strada owner, aero nerd, and not opposed to dropping too much money on a frame), yet there is zero way I could get this bike to work for me in any size... Their stack is about 30mm "too high" and the reach lengths simply too short. Their listed stack doesn't even factor in the 12mm of required headset dust cover/spacers. On top of that, the obligatory -6d stem on a 69d HTA means you're gaining even more stack.

    • @bicyclestation
      @bicyclestation  Месяц назад

      Yall are speaking my language. I try not to complain too much on camera to not discourage people who like tall and short geo. But it’s insane haha. I’m confident allied will get the geometry right with the new able

    • @UpcountryUltra
      @UpcountryUltra Месяц назад

      @@bicyclestation Previous Allied owner, so again, I’d love to love them, but if they stick to their current internal routing(Echo and Alfa) that’s a complete non-starter for me. It truly is the worst routing setup I’ve seen. Again you’re locked into their proprietary stem which you need multiple sizes of spanner wrenches to change. It’s a big miss from a company that makes their own forks!

    OK, I know you guys know what you’re doing, but I can’t help but mention when your ride in greasy muddy gravel roads and you’re cranking on the cranks going uphill, etc. you’re going to get flex in the back wheel that’s going to rub and grind on the frame You might wanna protect that frame with some thick clear plastic protection film. That’s all I’m saying. If they say it can only handle 2.25 they must know why. Same thing happened to me on my road bike. I tried to go too big.
