Have fun creating your own faux concrete wall using Saltwash and Chalk Paints.
You will need:
I used leftover emulsion/paint (whatever brand/colours you have to hand)
Saltwash
Spatula/scraper/trowel - the larger the tool the quicker you’ll be
Colour meshing tool - I used
Large flat wall brush - whatever you have
Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen, Louis Blue & Old White
Colour meshing tool - I used Water Wiz instead of sheepskin pad
Spray bottle (mister or normal doesn’t matter)
Shop towels

I've had an idea for several years of what I wanted for my bedroom walls, and you've just shown me how to do it! Thanks so much--now I can start at last!
If your going to use large amounts of salt wash better to make your own as it’s expensive to buy!
Half plaster of Paris to half any texture of salt you like to get the affect your after 👍🏼
Amazing how the blue works and that linen color is gorgeous! Thank you!

Beautiful 🌹🌹🌹
Loved loved LOVE this!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Jx
Have you ever thought of using an old standmixer to mix your paint and such for products? Just for time saving & for a right good mix through. Your stuff is so beautiful
That’s a great idea. Thank you! J x
I'm wanting to do a small interior accent wall which looks like Tabby( a mix of concrete, sand, crushed oyster shells and seashells, used in old coastal homes in the Southern U.S. and probably elsewhere!)
This looks like a beautiful foundation. I'm a bit inland and may see if I can get a good deal on some shells from a local Oyster Bar.
Wow, that sounds amazing! J x
Awesome tutorial, thanks a bunch. Julia is saltwash plaster of Paris or putty?
I’ve never heard of this product. My daughter gassed lime wash. We use to use drywall compound to create texture, I wonder if that would give the same look, you could put some fine sand or salt in it
I loved this video. Could I use Salt Wash with paint on a ceramic vase? What about a glass vase?
Thannnnnk
Hi there,
Does the wall need to be white, or can it be any color? Also do you need to prime in with anything first? I am wondering if I can just do this techinique over a purple painted wall.
Thanks for the video!
This looks so good! I do photography so this would be an amazing backdrop!
So pleased you love it. Thank you. J
Loving this wall painting technique! Can it be done using vinyl matt leftovers and the mesh tool, or must it be chalk paint? (I believe chalk paint doesn't wear so well.)
Could you substitute baking soda for the saltwash?
hi j ! What do you use to apply the colours after the brush
Hi Julia, where can we buy this in the UK? Im in London but cant find it… Tks in advance, great tutorial!
Wow
Thank you! J x
Would talcum powder work? I know salt should be cheaper, but you can’t usually get it that fine.
Hi Julia, can I use any paint for this?? I want to give this ‘concrete’ effect to an entire wooden dining table. I’m assuming I need to sand it down but do I need to aswell? & will this crack? Please reply, Thankyou ❤️
I have a question what is the difference between this painting method and Microcement?
How difficult would it be to remove is what I'm wondering, I want to do it but at the same time eventually this house will be getting sold and worry about how problematic it could be to remove, would putting paper on the wall first be an advantage?
Hi Julia...this is a great idea. I was wondering though, should you seal it with something? is there an issue of it brushing off on your clothes?
Hi, I’m glad you approve 😍. I didn’t seal it as in my studio and it doesn’t rub onto clothes but you could clear wax some areas to give it a polished look or use a dead flat topcoat. J
Do you have to use emulsion paint with the saltwash?
Hi Julia, where did you get the colour meshing tool from? I cant find it anywhere! Great looking wall!
it's commonly called a "foam pad with block" applicator or a "lambskin pad with block" depending on what texture you want. you can find it at Home Depot in the US.
I wonder if the color will fade after several years
how do you make a yellow one?
So glad I found you! Love this look so much. Happy ->>>me!
Aww, thanks Deborah ☺️🙏. J x
Can do you tell what is that powder
Is salt wash 👉 compound?
Hi. Please can you tell me where in the UK I can buy a huge tin of salt wash texture?
Hi Aimee, I get mine from the lovely Sarah at The Bricktree Gallery - www.bricktree-gallery.co.uk/Saltwash-c56310061. J x
Was it mixed into chalk paint or latex paint?
Hi Lisa it was latex. Chalk paint was used when colour meshing over the top. J x
How big is your wall and how many paint and saltwash did you use for the first layer?
The wall is approx 1.5 metres wide and high. Paint used was about 2 litres and one and a half large tubs of Saltwash. Hope that helps! J x
Yes, thank you so much!
What’s the brand, type and name of the paint you used that was mixed with the saltwash (not the chalk paints). Thanks
Hi there. They were left over Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion and Little Greene (I think it’s called Intelligent Matt). They are expensive so for this technique just use whatever you have or buy cheap. Hope that helps. J
@@JuliaKajtazi Thanks for the info, I see! So that means I could buy any kind of paint that you find at the hardware store, as long as it is emulsion and has a greyish color like you had?
Absolutely! J
@@JuliaKajtazi thanks a lot, I have many ideas I want to work on! Have you ever used rustoleum chalk paint?
Where to get saltwash?
Hi Caroline. If you go to Saltwash.com you can search for retailers in your country. Have fun! J x
Can you please say north america as the states isn’t the only country, Canada is very big into this stuff too.
Too long
