Awesome video. Never would have thought about low range without being in 4x4. Definitely would help in the steep slow speed grades with a high 1st gear
my CAD is pinned in permanently essentially solid front axle shaft, they made plenty of trucks and jeeps like that from factory without issue, the CAD is just a huge reliability crusher on the 4x4 system, can use 4x4 low range for pulling away steep grades with a heavy load just dont want to be doing super tight turns on pavement like that
Posi loc 4x4 is the second best mod I made to the 12 valve . Makes a huge difference. My weak auto hated a hill climb leaving a favorite camping spot and the 2wd low trick works great .
@@IManOPERATOR I have a question for you , when do you know it’s time to rebuild the p7100 ? Mine is awfully loud compared to other 12 valves in the area . Pump is stock except for the plate being full forward and star wheel adjusted for a bit more smoke pre boost . I haven’t touched governor springs yet . Any advice ?
@@zgonzales6082 mine is a 24v but typically p7100 are not that loud. Never a bad idea taking it in getting it rebuilt if your high on the miles. Pump shouldn’t make any sounds. Sometimes they just start going out.
I live in the north Georgia mountains. I got a 06’ (100k on it) and low range is awesome and strong. Not so much much on 2x4 when I put a 040 and wanna pull a steep hill. I’m going to need to do this ASAP.
My only concern would be putting all that torque on on axle instead of sharing it with the front. You could possibly find the limit of the rear end/ drive shaft.
You’re still placing the same torque in a sense to get moving. This will definitely add tons more torque but it’s about not being dumb and flooring it everywhere you go, take it easy this whole thing is to make it easier on the truck not hammer on it more
I found this video to be very helpful! I have a 99 Ram Cummins with the automatic. Often I can see the trans temp gauge spike if I climb a steep grade in 1st or 2nd gear (non-lockup from the factory) @ 20-30 mph. I did a F350 locking front hub conversion a few years ago. I heard there is an advantage to have 2LO when backing up trailers using the 4LO selection with hubs unlocked. After watching your video, I assume I can do the same thing in the forward gears 1st or 2nd to achieve slow pulling power. What is the max speed you would suggest for using "2LO" like you were in the video? Great content, I hope you continue to post a few 2nd gen videos even though you have a newer truck now.
Yes you’re completely correct, 1 gear is super load nearly a crawl speed. It will shift into second gear super quick. You heard it in the video. Max I would do 25 mph anything over that you’ll be reving out the truck anything above that. Happy you found these videos I’ll be sure to get that walk around on the truck soon.
