The duster is hands down the best budget suv on the planet. Ive driven the new one and also the 2017 model. Drove 4x2 models on mountains, narrows passes, hills pretty much everywhere, it always felt like a 4x4 although it was a 4x2 model. Can imagine the 4x4 model. Top stuff... i even driven it in off roads in Italy spain... amazed and amazed my fellow passengers. Top car well done dacia.
Very curious your opinion what's the best petrol engine in prestige version? As well are there any differences between models 2017-2020
My girlfriend and i bought a brand new Duster 2 months ago and are very satisfied.with it.
Car reviewers should not forget that this is a budget suv, and therefore should stop complaining about it...
They are doing their job, and that is to review a car... it's up to us to decide whether we can live or not with it's flaws...
Well said Sir
I agree
just don't look at the ncap tests, especially the side impact.
You get what you pay for. Sure it may not be the safest car in case of accidents, but it is brand new and you have a warranty in case something doesn't work right, but when you buy a used car for the same money you may get something even less safer with hidden problems or something that will happen eventually. What I am saying is that when you go second hand you don't know what you are buying, most people don't care about your well being and they will sell you a faulty car or a car that was wrecked and badly repaired.
Like it or loathe it Dacia is the future. No haggle cars bought on line. No frills, no salesman's salaries to pay, built in low pay economies. Every manufacturer is looking at the Renault/Dacia construction and sales model. Give it a few years and the roads will be full of sub-10k practical motor cars. And about time too.
There will always be cars for poor people to buy!
Yes! After owning one for the last four years, a different model though a 4x4 / 1.2 L petrol/ 125HP one that I have tried out with huge landies and Toyotas in the south of Israel, in the marsh areas of the north, in streams and sand. She (Nadia is her name) is definitely my playmate and great to drive to the office during the week. Very happy with the price, did get the underside armoured for all the off roading and no problems so far. Gas her up, service once a year and she waits for my next adventure. Cheers!
If you have a farm somewhere or you spend a lot of time in the countryside. This is your best bet. For cheap as well. Love the French for seeing the potential in the brand. Thank you for that !
I love my Duster, "Does exactly what it says on the can".
I see Dusters everywhere! Brits love them.
You see thousands in France and I have yet to see one broken down
mikeymarmalade I drive a lot around the UK, about 10.000 miles each month. The most common broken down car i see is the.....BMW. Followed by Vauxhalls/Opels.
Because were cheap.
@@stephencampbell6424 Well put
@@stephencampbell6424 Mercedes comes to mind.
Dacia become a dangerous reliable brand . They are cheap and don't break soon .I see expensive cars waiting on M25 for recovery ,now that painful when you pay 40-50 thousands
Ordered new essential model in black. I had all the toys on my old Kuga. Don't use half of them to be honest.
I'm looking at buying Comfort version, but only work in a shop lol.
I do at the moment have a Sandero Stepway 0.9 Laureate with 13 plate, and it's a damn cheap, but impressively made car!
Just got got one on order after a quick test drive, fantastic for the money.
Totally agree a great car for the money and stylish looking.
I have owned the previous generation diesel 4x4 for over a year. Goes anywhere, does everything you want and more, for half the price of rival manufacturers equivalent models. Hard, easily cleaned, plastic panels are great in a workhorse vehicle. An additional bonus is that Dacia do not restrict four wheel drive to only their most prestigious trim levels. You get what you pay for and you need only pay for the options you want. Other manufacturers should take note. Quite simply, the only option for many buyers to experience owning a brand new car with exactly the specifications they want.
We ordered/bought the 15th Anniversary of the Duster, TCe 130 GPF engine, full option (except for the 360 degree camera, which I would never use anyway), two days ago. We were able to get a very good deal for our old Kia Rio car from Dacia and on top of that they gave a nice discount for the Duster because it's a car they have in (over)stock due to Corona. We payed less than 16.000 Euros for that beauty!! The car will be delivered in about 1 to 2 weeks (max), and I can't wait to drive it around!!
PS: I fell in love with the Duster back in 2014 already, but back then it had too many flaws to convince me buying it. I'm happy that I waited 6 more years to buy me one. The second generation surely improved A LOT. It's clear Dacia listened to their customers and tackled all the problems customers had serious complaints about. Thumbs up from me!
Thanks for a nice honest review..not trying to be a smart arse like "scratchy plastic" Matt
Matt talks as if he has no idea how well these cars sell, and why people buy them.
fame went up to his nose I guess, anything besides mercedes or lambo is POS

Yeah lol in his video he was constantly comparing Mercedes to dacia
As someone with two small muddy kids, I don't want 'posh' materials, I want hard wearing and wipe clean. Dacia knows its audience.
Always nice to see and hear Rebecca. Vehicle reviewed is not sold in North America, but its Nissan cousin is. Come over and review/ visit us, Rebecca!
I grew up being a passenger in a Morris Marina and driving a Peugeot 106, so when I eventually get one of these it will be like owning a Rolls Royce!!
I have now driven my Renault Duster for 18 months. Before this I drove a Mercedes Benz E 350 CDI. The Duster is way more comfortable! The Duster is more reliable! In my view the Duster is real value for money. From 30 000 kms, the E 350 started to present problems, mainly with sensors. Limp mode in the E 350 was common! My Duster certainly does not compare in the power stakes, but what a pleasure not having that nagging feeling that another sensor breakdown was imminent . These were very expensive repairs. My Duster has thus far proved to be peace of mind motoring.
Do you have the petrol or diesel version? My Merc also loves going into limp mode from time to time... depressing.
I love your accent ...I treat your voice as module aid to my phonetic training practice to reinforce my English language
It's funny that people think dacia is on the market from 10 years, dacia was born in romania in 50's...
'68 actually.

Always like them regardless of cost so went and borrowed a new one thanks to a dealer in Brighton (Hendy). I was really impressed with it. Simple in nature and does not pretend to be something it isn't. I love the styling and it drove way better than expected. It's spacious, practical and has charm of it's own. Frankly for those of us who prefer to own their own cars (rather than leasing one) the way the market is moving towards the future, it seems silly dropping £30-50k on a premium car when soon all 2nd hand values will fall off a cliff. I'm going to wait for the 1.3 TCE with updated infotainment coming in the new year and use it for weekend adventures without worrying about leaving it parked up.
The new Dacia dusters with the new TCE engines are even better.
Ive got a feeling after owning a 100% reliable dacia sandero 1.5 dci turbo for 8 years fault free, my experience with my new used 2018 duster 16,000 miles on the clock is going to be ok.
The pinnacle of automotive excellence.
Nicely presented,thks.
I got one ,but mine is 1,2 engine 125hp 4x4 and is on 17" tires .😉
To be honest one of the best video presenters indeed 👍🏻
Your review is very interesting.
I drove my brother in laws BM 5 series for a week. Owe him one for lending it to me, when my car was off the road, but I hated it. Hated the over steer, and hated the console telling me what it was doing all the time, with all its buttons, 90% of which I had no clue what they did. An electronic nightmare. The Duster is my type of vehicle, as one just drives it to get from A to B, no fuss. Oh it does exactly the same job as a BMW at 70 mph.
Mate you’re takin the thing of the road what do you fuckin expect
@@benventress467 off the road = in a garage. Drove the BMW on public roads.
I think the bigger question is, will people prefer to buy a slightly older SUV from a quality brand? The duster has a lot going for it if you were ONLY interested in a brand new car but I can't think of any reason why someone wouldnt instead go for a 2015/16 competitor. Better quality, better engines. And some have manufacture warranties that extend to 5+ years.
This is a biproduct of having massive market depreciations in the car values.
Nice review Rebecca.
I got one for a month ago, and i love it.
Good job. I like them

yes next year is coming the 1.3 tce petron engine with 130 and 150 hp :) like on mercedes-benz (a200 for example)
This review is much better than carwow. An honest review of what it is, rather than comparing it to something it clearly isn't.
I want a 4x4 and in this price range there is only the Suzuki Jimny which is tiny and not even available at the moment. I got 20k euros for the 4x4 Duster with all the extras and the Diesel engine. Then I was going to the Toyota website to take a look at the RAV4. From 33.000 Euros for the 4x2 version. I think I´ll go for the Duster.
Love the duster, definitely want to buy one for me and my son. Love the look of it and the low price
Its excellent. I've had mine 8 weeks now, 1ltr TCE Comfort, and I can't find fault with it. Even with the car fully laden for a camping trip, complete with roof bag, it was an incredibly smooth ride, with plenty of oomph left for overtaking.
And do I really need all the gizmos like buttock conforming heated seats, psychic crash warnings, etc? No, no I don't. Same with complaints about the basic plastic trim, what am I missing, expensive rare coral for the vents, endangered hardwoods for the dash, a humpback whales spine formed to a steering wheel? No thanks. It drives well, and is easy to clean. That's what I wanted, and thats what I got. Go for it
I'm looking at replacing my 2005 Freelander soon. Would the duster feel any more modern or is it that dated I wouldn't feel like I'd bought a newer car ?
Here in Brazil, it has 120hp using ethanol, enough power. And cvt transmission. And even one 2.0 liters version reaching 148hp on ethanol. This time using an automatic transmission or 6 speed manual and 4x4 .
In LHD European markets, there is no 1.6L petrol engine but the great 1.33L turbo petrol engine with 150HP and a 6-speed manual. For 2019 the 1.5L diesel was offered with the Getrag dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
looking to change in 2-3 months ,nice to find a sensible review. might consider

The Prestige model does have blind spot monitoring and warning.

@@gruntod9171 You don't seem to understand sarcasm or humour...look it up.
@@gruntod9171 he was sarcastic :)) but I agree on the moaning people make for these "futuristic" options. I learned to drive with a car that didn't have anything special and guess what, I don't need sensors to park and I find them annoying as fuck. I had a Mazda 3 from 2006 and my parents have an old Dacia MCV, never had trouble parking them or got too close to the other cars.
Good point! The only solution will be to stay awake (lane drift monitor), stay alert (proximity monitors), and stay off your mobile phone (collision monitor). How old fashioned!
I had the diesel 4x4, it was a stunning car, great on fuel and cheap to run.👍
I’ve had a duster for four years it’s the top of the range diesel does 50mpg been down to Spain a couple of times carnt really daily it for the money and will buy another
The materials inside don't have soft plastics, umm are people hugging the interior of the car or what
It's all about the "premium" feel...hard plastics=banger, soft-to-the-touch plastics=top of the range
🤣🤣🤣
I love the Duster 4x4 Petrol version we have a dealership in Shillong,Meghalaya ,India it cost about Rs 11 Lakhs I have a Brochure I am thinking of this option.
Test drove a dci 115 diesel today 2018 model 16k on the clock, the ride is much better than my old 2007 citroen c5 exclusive with hydraulic suspension, I left a deposit and will be back to collect the car next week, as someone who has always chased the most comfortable suspension i would say go test drive one you will be very impressed with the ride quality, I even took it down bumpy country lanes and the ride is amazing. It has a very refined heavy feel like a large family car does, it feels like a quality built car in every respect, also ordered a 16inch space saving spare wheel and jack kit from ebay for £99. Cheaper than the dacia one for £250 insurance with 13 years ncb was £345 fully comp.
There is this basic question: how much would you pay for a car? Duster is basic, of course, but for the right price. Add soft materials inside, electronic gizmos, more powerful engines and you will end paying 5-10 Thousand more. That brings Duster in the area of Kadjar and Qashqai. This brand is owned by Renault-Nissan and has its well defined place in the french-japanese portfolio. Negative comments are useless. Everything comes down to cost. If is was more sophisticated it would not have been at all.
You can't get to kadjar price even with the limited edition duster they are offering now. So that's not true. ;)
But you also can't get the interior design of the kadjar. But other then that they are quite similar.
Great French-Romanian car.
Serby 302 what is the meaning of your flag?

Good looking car at great price makes other SUVs look ordinary looking and well over priced.simplicity is best as less than go wrong with unnecessary extras that you can do without.
These are such great value in mk1 or mk2 form - straightforward review from Rebecca too
There's a nice place to rest your clutch foot on the left hand drive version....
If only the Brits could change their minds about driving on the wrong side of the road 😂
I think it's a great car for a person that doesn't care about car brands, and wants a reasonable good cheap car with a lots of space for the family. Besides, it's definitely going to sell well in emerging markets.
The Duster is becoming very fashionable. I see lots of trendy young women driving them, so the men-in-sheds image is in decline. They're Tonka Toys for adults.
@@borderlands6606 I dare wouldn't be a passenger in one
It's very popular in India. It was once the biggest selling SUV here.
there is a waiting period when you order in my country, local Renault president stated that demand exceeds factory capacities so...its hot merchandise :)
i dropped my bimmer for a brand new Sandero Stepway, everybody is shocked, including myself, I'm shocked how good is this car. with the 0.9 tce by renault, i had no more 4500 eur for a full-option duster , but i wait the new engines on Duster, like the 1.3 TCE from mercedes-benz(Renault) like a200 with 130 and 150 hp
Picking up our new Duster next week, and decided to go with the Essential Trim (petrol and same colour as the review). The reason we've picked the essential is because Google Maps is better than the sat nav it comes with, and also not really bothered about Cruise Contol. Looking forward.......
I bought a new one of these for a family car. It was a couple grand more than I would of spent on a used car. But worth it imo. I really like the car. Got the bifuel, it is slow but the comfort and extra space over my fabia is fantastic. Increased ride height is strange at first but is safer when cars parked at edge of junctions etc.
Starting this fall, the Duster and Sandero will have a new MediaNav system which comes with Apple/Android Car so you can listen to your Spotify or watch RUclips.

Great Video Review. The Best Budget SUV and the Best Video Reviewer
I'm pretty sure they've expanded the Duster engine sizes since this video was made? Like the 1.2 and 1. Petrol engines.
Wow, toned down with the overexcited voice pitch gone, cool 😎
Foarte frumos 👍👍👍
The gear stick is large indeed😇
Brought a new one last year . Well my daughter did with my money . First thing we did was get a second hand full size spare wheel . Tyre places don't like gunk pumped in a tyre so won't repair them .
I think should make an updated review with the 130 tce petrol version, it is far superior to the 1.6. The was one point that were incorrect theres no front parking sensors with the comfort model, Which I think there should be as the bonnet is quite high being an SUV.
So you don't get tce 100 to 150 petrol engines in England. Is there a reason for that ?
Just ordered the Comfort in metallic black, having driven a Sandero for three 3 years, I'm well impressed, having already test drove the Duster I'm buying, my Duster will be with me by Wednesday, can't wait. The Duster is unique in design, looks great, remember the Duster isn't a 25 to 30 grand overkill, but you still get a lot of car for what you pay, some of the points in this video are a bit nit picky.
You should redo this review with the new tech road model
Duster looks so big with you near it |:))
Fantastic video
Love the duster. If I cud drive I would have 1 of these badboys 4 sure 👌
Duster with Tce 130 six speed is perfect vehicle for the money
Another interesting and informative video, keep them coming Rebecca, Lovely Jubbly.
I don't agree with one thing. The bashing of the quality of interior plastics. They are an upgrade from the previous version, but the way more expensive competition does not offer better plastics nowdays either. The T-Roc for example is a hard plastic horror inside, the Vitara, same hard glossy plastic that always makes cracking noises over bumps or if you touch it, the Ateca, although much more expensive, still has comparable plastics in many places.
Actually that's so true... I had a brand new smart car for a few hours... Holy hell the plastics were shocking. The Duster's are a matt finish and really tough exactly what you want on a car like this. Trust me I panic opening the door of my BMW in a down pour.
Oz I drive a BMW and I’m definitely not a douchebag!
Very good point. What car under 40 000 doesn't have cheap plastic interior ? The best you can hope for your interior at this point in time is that they integrated the screen, and it isn't like somebody glued a tablet on top of your cheap plastic dash full of blank buttons that don't do anything in your version of the model.
Which I'm very pleased to say, isn't the case in my Dacia Sandero Urban Explorer (and neither in the Duster), and was in my previous Ford Focus, which costs almost twice as much.
Camogie final
You need nice steering wheel and nice gearbox to touch. And Duster have both of this with soft leather materials. What is the problem with all the plastic on board if you never touch it? The steering wheel is actually premium quality. The door armrest is leather too, and seats are comfortable. The only rival of Duster is Ssangyong XLV, both weight less than 1400 kilograms but Duster is more resistant and better maintenance price.
Auburn hair color is amazing👏
The duster is my favorite car.
That's all good and well HOWEVER the big question remains!
How many bananas can you fit in the glove compartment?
Not a 2020 review - its a 2018 model and they now have the TCe130 engine which would have made for a more inclusive review.

Only real complaint is clutch being too expensive as it is dual mass around £1200....also bites way up the pedal..too high...there is a clutch foot rest on my 16 plate duster.....only buy the 1.5 dci model...great torque...6 speed and 54 mpg around town and motorway....very very reliable car
That’s strange because my wife always finds sufficient room to rest her clutch foot 🤔
Admittedly she’s only ever sat in the passenger side but 🤷🏻♂️
Oh my...'there is no place to rest my clutch foot', well that settles it then I guess.
