I watched in the cinema and you're right, the experience is amazing. I could hear so much more in the Legend of Ruby Sunday soundtrack to appreciate! There's a choir chanting "Sutekh" way before his name is revealed! I need to watch Empire of Death again because I think I actually missed some of the plot details because it subverted my expectations so much. I wasn't happy with the Sutekh resolution or the reveal of Ruby's mother, but now that I think about it more, the latter is good: the idea that things become important because of the thought and feeling we invest in them is a bit like how fans approach the show itself. I don't buy that a fifteen year old girl span around and pointed at that sign in such an ominous way though...that was bizarre 😂 I love Sian Clifford and think she will be back as "the kind woman". Perhaps she is Susan?!
Ruby being a normal foundling is perfect. Anything else would be a bit hackneyed. But the finale could have been 3 parts, and that would have given Sutekh more screen time and made the "gift of death" been more weighty.
I agree the ending feels like a cop out, they spent the whole series making ruby something special with the snow and her mother pointing at the tardis. But turns out she is just a random person
The origin of Ruby & her temporary departure fell completely flat in my screening. The show expects investment into Ruby's character but it didn’t earn it. 8 episodes is not enough for me to feel anything at that end scene. In the cinema myself & my party of friends felt completely cold to it when I expect RTD hoped we would be close to tears. We really don't know Ruby enough to justify doing this sooo early in her run despite that lovely scene
I saw it at the Cinema too and wow, I have to agree it was an AMAZING experience. I personally loved the episode, it answered all the MAIN mysteries and it was a lot of fun to watch and I did genuinely cry at the end...! Hopefully they do a cinema release again next year!
RTD has said he took inspiration from The Last Jedi's twist, and I like that twist because it was REALLY based on fan expectations rather than what the story was setting up. Here tho, literally the reveal doesn't make sense. How is Ruby able to manifest snow? Why was the face of her mom not there? Why is there LITERAL music that happens with her? There are soooooo many questions that only make sense IF Ruby has something special about her or something special happens to her. To have the reveal be that we were "putting too much importance into it" makes absolutely no sense. She can just break the laws of thermodynamics because... she puts a lot of importance in being abandoned? Huh? Can EVERY human being conjur snow or other elements? Also the resolution being that they just needed to initially travel to the future to get a blood sample to figure out who Ruby's mom is just paints both the Doctor and Sutekh as absolute idiots. Why would you not think to do that at first when you have a time machine? Lmfao. It just doesn't work.
I instantly got my tickets when I heard it was in cinemas. It's been 10 long years since I've seen Doctor Who in cinemas with 2014 's S8 "Deep Breath" (Peter Capaldi's debut) & the 50th anniversary in 3D before it. Next time ppl go!! It's something else on that gigantic screen with cinema sound & other Whovians!! (despite how underwhelmed I'm feeling from Empire Of Death)
Genuinely terrible. Sutekh is an absolute joke in the ending, what a bastardisation of a brilliant classic monster. Defeating him by towing him through the vortex… what? The whole spoon scene with random woman: why? Useless scene. Gatwa screaming? No thanks. Ruby’s mother being nobody? Ok, and I like the message that anyone can be special, but that directly contradicts the fact Ruby makes it snow, the fact Sutekh’s interested, the fact the memories keep changing, etc.. Not bringing in Carol Ann Ford was a massive missed goal. I’ve really liked Boom, 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble and LoRS, but this was the worst of the series because of just how flat it managed to fall. Worst Doctor Who Ep since The Timeless Children or maybe even Orphan 55.
And the absolute worst bit of all: the way everyone is resurrected. Because obviously Sutekh visiting everywhere would do something (why!?) and he’d have absolutely no choice (why!?)
It took me re watching it three times to realize that the Susan Twist cameos are really an upwards curve trough the series. her roles keep increasing in "power", influence, fame, etc. in the beginning, she's a servant, and in the last few eps her characters have money, or titles, or some sort of authority. it culminates with her being a billionaire and genius about to change the world. such clever writing. as her mystery becomes more important, her character also becomes more influential. and it ties it in so perfectly with Kate's theory on 73 Yards... so sad the ending was rushed and kinda meh. Feels like Russel wrote himself into a corner with how almighty he made Sutekh, and had to downgrade him at the end so the Doctor could win.
My issue with UNIT dying off so early and then Carla/Cherry Sunday is that I sat their then knowing this would be a reset in 40 minutes time, could've done with happening later on or at the end of last ep
Zutekh is still alive, if it was clinging on to the tardis since the 80's when the doctor split the tardis into two, what would mean sutekh is still alive on the 14th doctor tardis, RTD is a sligh fox 2005 ep 1 Rose, the guy clive says to rose the doctor rides with one constant companion DEATH ☠
just before watching this episode i watched the original sutekh episode and i noticed that the vortex in that episode is the same as the intro vortex . Otherwise i think the episode is great but the reveal of ruby mother was underwhelming because we still haven't got the answer of how did ruby summon snow out of fin air.
I will be honest and say I didn't mind how Sukteh died because he did achieve his goal tbf and I suppose he was distracted for a split second then allowed him to be tied up? Idk tho, however, those mativity gloves are pretty OP lol. I also like how you appreciate the kind women scene, as it goes to show that the most important thing in his wasteland is something ordinary object and that causes the tardis to wake up. (Although miss the opportunity to do the scene that the 12th doctor did with the spoons lol). I also liked that Ruby's mother was just an original person, but did find it weird how quickly she was accepting of Ruby (she also must not have had any family if there were no DNA matches). Also love the fact while Ruby might not remember 73 yards, it's still buried deep in her brain and was made canon. Overall I did like this episode, I just think there were too high expectations for everyone and everyone felt underwhelmed. My guess on why Ruby can make it snow is because the doctor intervened by rescuing baby Ruby and this gave her the ability to create snow, maybe from the memory tardis? As she did seem shocked when it happened in space babies. This either won't be explained or will be explained. Also, another Mrs flood teased again, her reveal better be worth it RTD
Sorry, late to this and loads of comments so if I double up forgive me. Did Ncuti's Doctor also clone Sutekh when he hit the TARDIS with the hammer in the 60th? I'm obsessing over this somebody help me.
I thought the episode was okay. There are still some of us that are sane and can say something's just "alright" instead of thinking it's the greatest or most awful thing in the history of the universe.
Oh, and about Sutekh and the time vortex. The Fourth Doctor sent Sutekh into the time vortex and the idea was that he would fall through the it and eventually die. But this time The Doctor dragged him at top speed through the entire history of time and space in the vortex, basically speeding up the process.
Think of all the times when the Doctor was trapped away from the TARDIS. Heaven Sent he was away for billions of years and Sutekh just hung around? Also what happened when the TARDIS was duplicated. Why did it snow, the figure pointed accusing at a street sign behind the TARDIS. How did the world reset? Just typical RTD unable to stick the landing.
Most doctor who finale, very in line with things like journey's end, doomsday, wedding of river song in just... kind of not making sense so I honestly was expecting this lmao.
The TARDIS went to the end of the universe to shake Jack off but didn't notice a great big Dog of Death? Not to mention 11 rebooted the Universe. The Flux happened & when the TARDIS was human form Idris she didn't notice or tell him? 🤷♀️ Take care cos I've really enjoyed your reviews & impressions 😂❤
Personally the first 30 or so minutes were amazing but after the 2046 parts where they return to unit hq my score for the episode kept on dropping, there were some good moments (I really enjoyed the scene with Ruby's mum in the coffee shop) but the main issue was that the resolution with Sutekh was way too easy and convenient and the Ruby reveal raised way more questions for an episode that was supposed to answer everything
I liked it much more on a second viewing because it let me just enjoy it rather than just waiting for more big fan service-y reveals which ill admit i did the first time to my enjoyments detriment
I wish that Sutekh was released with the Toymaker in Wide Blue Yonder. I don't see any evidence of Sutekh in the TARDIS after Pyramids of Mars. I didn't like Sutekh being taken for walkies in the vortex causing the "reset button".
UNIT dying had 0 impact on me because Rose was there. If Rose wasn't in that room I could've believed it for a moment. So I had that "Oh this is getting reset" moment pretty much instantly. I really don't know why people don't like the Sutekh cgi. I think all Susan Triad was is just to be bait for The Doctor. But since he went to Earth so many times she was a tangible person rather than some randomly inserted one off. Like you said, MANY bigger mysteries. Like Sutekh just didn't care that The Doctor is from some alternate reality and the last/only one of their kind? That wasn't a bigger mystery?? It was all just bait, a blatant lie. It's not that the fans were just overhyping a mystery and expecting MORE than the show ever implied like WandaVision. RTD intentionally misdirected. It was cheap and incredibly poor writting. Also, 15s Tardis is a copy of 14s. So there's a copy of Sutekh just chilling on Earth.
I got say, i enjoy ye reactions and takes man, Doctor who is certainly not dead and not at the same level as the acolyte or velma. Keep up the good work tho
Sutekh never did much in 1975 and trust me i saw it the first time, mate great reviews but really RTD having the reigns again we knew it would be like this 👍🏻
When she said “that clever boy” I had to do a hold up. Because as far as I can remember Clara is really the only one who ever called him that with the whole “run you clever boy and remember” but Clara can’t age she’s stuck in the last second before death. Unless it’s another splinter of Clara.
@@darth_kal-el she's not Clara. She is however cosplaying several companions. She has so far dressed as Clara, Rory, Bill and Romana 2. I look forward to seeing which companion she is dressed as next time we see her.
Hello sailor, Susan was created by Sutekh using the Tardis to spread the dust of death throughout time and space. I genuinely loved the character work in the episode. But Russell can't keep doing a Bad Wolf and Doctor Donna endings to save the day. I do understand that there's a lot to get through and that we only had 8 episodes, but taking Sutekh walkies? Nahhhhhh. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series along with you.
Even when my thoughts on the episodes are different than yours I can usually see your point of view. Which is rare amongst so many reviewers. I see so many critics just bashing RTD for the sake of it. Before the final episode we had tons of the theories at least about Ruby's mother. And from all of them I really like what has been done. This empowerment of an ordinary, scared person. Was the resolution of Sutekh a stretch? Of course, but it's nothing new in Doctor Who. Could the finale be better? Probably. But it could easily be so much worse.
honestly we have at least one more season with Fifteen so I'm not super worried about his development or lack thereof this season. Ncuti rly worked for me and basically carried the season. I cannot fully explain why but the real downfall of this series to me was Ruby Sunday. She is not the worst companion ever by far, shes def better than the "fam" and Clara. But the show rly wanted me to believe in the relationship between her and The Doctor and I just...didn't. Probably has to do with the shortened season but I also just dont think shes a well-written or compelling character. Even the episode "73 yards" which i rly did enjoy, was serviced more by the plot than anything having to do with Ruby herself, who the plot centers on.
Empire of death was good but not amazing. I could have done with a bit more time with it though. Maybe if empire of death was split into 2 episodes it would have been better.
I hated this episode. ncuti did not feel like he had so much agency and when it came to a climax there was no creative ending it was just putting a lead onto a dragon and pulling it back into the time vortex which was the exact same ending as there was before. Also I dont feel like ncuti should have said that the monster defeated him by making him have to kill it because he never even tried to save it.
I loved it for what it is a bit cheesy definitely however seeing it at the cinema was a fantastic experience unfortunately 50 odd minutes is rushed loving the new who 😂😂
Disappointing episode after the tension built up by the previous one and then towards the end it drifts into a soap opera territory. RTD's story telling has felt sloppy in this new era, I hope in season 2 we see new writers making a big contribution, so we might get more fresh and exciting new stories coming from different voices.
For a breif window of time I felt like this was good, I also felt like it has the only moment that Ncuti Gatwa convinced me that he was the Dr and clearly a very good actor unpon his 1st confrontion with Sutekh sadly the convincing moments didn't last for me. This episdoe had to many unexplaned wins for the Doc it's was stright up lazy, like how come a whistle fires a huge laser from the Tardis at Sutekh is a prime example. The episode is an hour long and could have been condenced down to 15 mins, far to much of it relied on effects without the writting back it up and don't get me started on the gushing dialogue, both of these things were stright up filer. To recap at one point I was like, you know got this all wrong, Ncuti is a fine Dr and we so back to lilteraly me spontaneously telling the TV screen to f off. Yeah we are not so back. Still think Who needs to get canned for a couple of decades.
I was so let down by this episode man. All the brilliant buildup for weeks and the reveal in the first part only to all end up in a lot of nonsense. The way they defeated Sutekh was like ????? what And as much as I did actually like the Ruby's mother reveal and resolution, it still doesn't add up. Why did it snow? Why was Maestro scared by her "power" that felt similar to Sutekh's? Perhaps, the story isn't over yet. I wish the truth behind it was somewhat connected to the supernatural and the Pantheon. But I did like how it actually turned out. I feel like for this series Russell literally focused on getting people to work on a lot of theories. It was very sort of meta. They revealed just the right information to push the theories in a certain direction. I think it's a good idea honestly but I kinda wanted more substance. I loved Ruby's character and her chemistry with the Doctor but we've barely seen any of it - of course we know she is coming back in some capacity so we can see more. Still, the goodbye was very emotional.
I'm teetering between underwhelmed & absolutely hating it. The virtual silence as 100s left the cinema at 1am was incredibly telling. There was audible anger at the Ruby ending in my screening & my friends couldn't say much positive about it afterwards, still in shock how bad a taste in the mouth the final 10 mins gave us & it broke my heart to feel this way 💔 • The snow ❄️, indoors, outdoors anywhere in time & space??? • The "Very wrong" Ruby?? • The Xmas song hidden within her soul? • The 15yr old girl in a cloak from something out of the Traitors in 2004?? • Naming a child by spinning around in front of no one being physically there to name your child by pointing at a road sign?? • The missing 6 months of adventures mentioned in "The Devils Chord"?? • Despite 6 months of travelling the 1st planet Ruby travels to is in "Boom"?? I enjoyed Power of The Doctor & The Vanquishers more than that finale & it hurts!!
I'm not trying to be negative... but I genuinely can't tell why anyone would have liked this lol. Sutekh seems like an absolute afterthought and is too easily dispensed with, and the deal with Ruby's parents just felt like a wasted opportunity, since every other fan theory seems much more appealing than the reality we were given. That and the plot holes in this episode just make it too hard to enjoy and it really takes away from the suspense of TLORS.
Episode 7 was really good building up to a huge fantastic climax which continued into the first 10 minutes or so of episode 8 and then it just went downhill with a stupid explanations just boring pointless scenes and descended into EastEnders what an absolute disappointment
I really was disappointed in this finale, like it ruins the series for me. I think the mystery that they built up was the main thing that was saving it for me, but for it to be such a flop payoff, it just isn't good. Like its better than Chibnall era, but that's not exactly high praise really. I wouldn't put it higher than any other series except those 3.
Yeahh the "third act" kind of fell off for me and got me slightly (and I mean slightly) worried about RTD's writing. As this was his weakest finale yet, BUT I really liked this episode. So I'm neutral atm. Left with more questions, but at least there was an happy ish ending.
how doctor who should end is doctor finding his kid and start to settle down and there no more bad aliens out there thats how i feel about it really season 2 of new doctor who could go to that i feel doctor who has gone for 61 years now and really the story telling is not great anymore.
I hated the conclusion to the episode it felt very similar to Sutek being defeated in pyramidsof mars loved the random woman hoped that that would be susanbut obviouslh it wouldn’t other than that no real issues with the episodes part 1 was better though and i prefer doc 9 and 10 but that might be my zoomer brain preferring what i remember but i also feel like i only care about ruby because she’s from 5 mins down the road rather than her being entertaining
I'm not joking when I say that this is up there with Game of Thrones S8, in how disappointing it was. For me at least. An amazing story, with so many mysteries and adventures. Episode after episode, building up the hype and tension. Theories being made because of how interesting this is. Entire videos dedicated to trying to figure out how this mystery will end. Only to just fall completely flat right at the end, for absolutely no reason at all. Now, almost 24 hours later, I'm still in disbelief how terrible that ending was. It makes me sick to see a story I cared so much for and spent so much time thinking about, crying about and really vibing with was just taken out back and shot in the head, dead. I've never seen a single episode of any TV-series do more damage to the previous episodes than this episode has done. Every single episode in this season has been trashed into the gutter for me, because the mystery was what made them compelling. This ending was so bad, I regret even watching it. I think I would've been more happy not knowing how this all ended. Living a blissful lie, indulging myself in theories and making my own head-canon. All that was taken away from me. Objectively speaking this episode is well made, great acting. CGI is well made (for doctor who), and excluding the last 15 minutes, this episode really hits hard and is up there with the rest of the season. Had it not been for the ending I would've probably given it 8,5/10. Unfortunately the ending part from me is such a horribly, disgustingly, terrible slap in the face. I give that part a 1/10, only because I cannot go any lower. Overall 5/10. Supreme disappointment. My words can't even describe how sick I feel even thinking about it. A terrible shame and stain on the Doctor Who show. Worst episode I've ever seen of TV in my life.
Sorry mate, but imo sutekh did look bad. Original tom baker look was so much better. Arguably also the worst episode of the whole series, not because it’s controversial or anything, just because the plot was so lazy and just crap. Arguably one of the worst finales from RTD
I gave it a chance. I cannot give this garbage a pass and I cannot understand how y'all can do it. Doctor Who logic was shoddy a lot of times in the past, but this? If you liked it - good for you, I am jealous. I'm out. None of you will miss me. 🍐
It was complete shit. Just one of the many many plot holes in this garbage:- In "The Doctor's Wife", wouldn't the TARDIS say to the Doctor...FFS you have a giant rat in the TARDIS called Sutekh!!!
sutek being stuck to the tardis is by far the worst writing this episode and season. also being that the tardis being split into 2. this season has past way below chibnal doctor who by a mile
To reply to the opening, no, I shall not be. That was super disappointing and was NOT worth the price. Cost 2x the price of a regular film ticket for less runtime whatever that was
This is for all your reaction videos. I have greatly enjoyed them.
Wow, thank you! Glad you liked them! Appreciate you! :D
One thing that throws me the most and what I think was heavily overlooked was, how does Ruby make it snow if she's just a normal person?
uh... salt!

I'm gonna miss you shouting Susan Twist
Zutekh is still alive, if it was clinging on to the tardis since the 80's when the doctor split the tardis into two, what would mean sutekh is still alive on the 14th doctor tardis,
RTD is a sligh fox 2005 ep 1 Rose, the guy clive says to rose the doctor rides with one constant companion DEATH ☠
Still waiting for that Clom joke we never got
just before watching this episode i watched the original sutekh episode and i noticed that the vortex in that episode is the same as the intro vortex . Otherwise i think the episode is great but the reveal of ruby mother was underwhelming because we still haven't got the answer of how did ruby summon snow out of fin air.
No one seems to remember that this TARDIS is a duplicate that was made in "Giggle" so Sutekh shouldn't have been on this one or there's two of them.
Sutekh clung onto the 4th Doctors TARDIS whilst when the doctor did this he killed him for good
I don't care who Mrs. Flood is.
I'm just glad she comforted Cherry in their final moments.
Wish I went to the cinema for TDOTD. I really wanna go to see the big specials
Was so cool in the cinema
TDOTD
i just realized TDOTD also stands for "the diamond of the day" from merlin
Saw Capaldi's debut at the cinema here in Melbourne Australia with the fam.
Sutekh was defeated by walkies
'Rastacorikofabalatorius', now that's new, sounds like a mix of 'Raxacoricofallapatorius', 'Rasta' and 'Bannakaffalatta', delightful
LMAO! yeah forgive me may have only been awake for 10 minutes when filming this loool
You're so right about the "no in-between" in the fanbase 😅 It sucks
Think of all the times when the Doctor was trapped away from the TARDIS. Heaven Sent he was away for billions of years and Sutekh just hung around? Also what happened when the TARDIS was duplicated. Why did it snow, the figure pointed accusing at a street sign behind the TARDIS. How did the world reset? Just typical RTD unable to stick the landing.
Think of the Susan Triads as Sutekh dropping off wifi extenders for his power across time and space.
Take care cos I've really enjoyed your reviews & impressions 😂❤
Personally the first 30 or so minutes were amazing but after the 2046 parts where they return to unit hq my score for the episode kept on dropping, there were some good moments (I really enjoyed the scene with Ruby's mum in the coffee shop) but the main issue was that the resolution with Sutekh was way too easy and convenient and the Ruby reveal raised way more questions for an episode that was supposed to answer everything
series 14, short as it is, is the best we've had since series 5. Fight me over it.
I loved the episodes definitely worth quite a few binges.
the cinema was amazing
We need a spin-off with Cherry and Mrs. Flood as roommates
Sutekh never did much in 1975 and trust me i saw it the first time, mate great reviews but really RTD having the reigns again we knew it would be like this 👍🏻
So is anyone else thinking mrs flood has something to do with clara?
It was alright, continued the trend of every rtd finale post parting of the waves having a weaker second part.
Watch the video commentary! Everything you didn't get or liked are new plots for s2 and s3.
The episode was actually pretty good it’s just kinda a cop out ending for rubys storyline
Why didn't Sutekh try to steal/use the Key To Time?
honestly we have at least one more season with Fifteen so I'm not super worried about his development or lack thereof this season.
I don't know why but you strike me as a Liverpool fan
loool definitely not ahah
@@DannyTDW ok, good
Empire of death was good but not amazing.
The way they defeated Sutekh was like ????? what
And as much as I did actually like the Ruby's mother reveal and resolution, it still doesn't add up.
There was audible anger at the Ruby ending in my screening & my friends couldn't say much positive about it afterwards, still in shock how bad a taste in the mouth the final 10 mins gave us & it broke my heart to feel this way 💔
• The snow ❄️, indoors, outdoors anywhere in time & space???
• The "Very wrong" Ruby??
• The Xmas song hidden within her soul?
• The 15yr old girl in a cloak from something out of the Traitors in 2004??
• Naming a child by spinning around in front of no one being physically there to name your child by pointing at a road sign??
• The missing 6 months of adventures mentioned in "The Devils Chord"??
• Despite 6 months of travelling the 1st planet Ruby travels to is in "Boom"??
I enjoyed Power of The Doctor & The Vanquishers more than that finale & it hurts!!
This series was unfortunate hopefully theres improvement in the next series
The ordinary woman was totally a play on fans putting importance in things and speculating. I thought it was clever.
I have a thought about that mrs flood could she be romana
No. Too nasty to be Romana.
Disappointing episode, but what if mrs flood is Clara Oswald the impossible girl
It's all misdirection 😉
I'm not trying to be negative... but I genuinely can't tell why anyone would have liked this lol. Sutekh seems like an absolute afterthought and is too easily dispensed with, and the deal with Ruby's parents just felt like a wasted opportunity, since every other fan theory seems much more appealing than the reality we were given. That and the plot holes in this episode just make it too hard to enjoy and it really takes away from the suspense of TLORS.
Whatever is to be learned from this series is too late for the next as it's already filmed
RTD really lost his edge
This episode was not Dr. Who to me it was all a big soap opera.
Just one of the many many plot holes in this garbage:-
In "The Doctor's Wife", wouldn't the TARDIS say to the Doctor...FFS you have a giant rat in the TARDIS called Sutekh!!!
"seduced the vessel and the vessel did obey" The tardis was partially under sutekhs influence and thus wouldn't reveal it
sutek being stuck to the tardis is by far the worst writing this episode and season. also being that the tardis being split into 2. this season has past way below chibnal doctor who by a mile
top level delusion lol. You can dislike it, but to say it's worse than chibnall DW is just mental illness at this point.
It’s ok to just say it was crap. 👎RTD pulled the wool over all our eyes. Why would season 2 be any better? Fool me once…🧐
Human league fan, taste not found.
To reply to the opening, no, I shall not be. That was super disappointing and was NOT worth the price. Cost 2x the price of a regular film ticket for less runtime whatever that was
