I came her for your review of the Priya Guns debut.
I just finished reading Your Driver is Waiting and I couldn't rate it any higher than 3.5 stars.
As the book started out, I honestly didn't believe I would be able to rate it any higher than 2, because at the time, I'd grown quite frustrated with the narrator's stream of consciousness moments, as well as her obvious A.D.D.
So many times, Damani would say random things in response to what someone else said or I couldn't tell whether her charcoal was even paying attention and it got frustrating.
I later watched a video of the author answering questions about the book and she stated that she wanted to write something for people with short attention spans (like her).
I only rated the book higher once D started going off the rails.
I did enjoy the fact that so many issues were bought up in this particular book.
    Thank you for sharing! ✨️

The content in Playing Indians sounds really fascinating! Too academic for me, probably, but I loved hearing about it from what you shared. And yeah, I'm firmly in the camp that reviews are for readers, not for authors. I tend to avoid a lot of self-pub works for exactly that reason - they seem a lot more likely to go and comment on a review, which I feel is really inappropriate. I have had a few authors like/comment on some of my positive reviews, but even that I don't like. It really does feel uncomfortable, even when positive.

Yes! I did have one author message me and ask me if they could comment on a review and that was so refreshing. Fortunately it was a very positive review and it felt nice that the author was careful and thoughtful about not crossing a line without asking first.
