His genre of music was "good". This song is so heartfelt & emotional it's like a cry from a broken heart. I've only recently discovered Jeff Buckley & when I read about how he died in an unfortunate drowning accident, far too young, it hurt...just think of what he might have achieved.
A similar thing happened to a very young Mexican singer, Ariel Camacho, who had multiple songs with 300 million + views. After one of his many concerts, he and a lot of his friends died in a car accident. It's always the GREAT singers with SO MUCH potential that lose their lives far too soon. So sad, but its life ig.
Wow your the first guy I've seen who really understands what happening in that performance and how difficult that is for a guy to do , then when u consider that he wrote the tune arranged it did all the backing vocals and wrote out string arrangements on that album , well it takes it to another level , simply stunning cos his lyrics are some of the best ever written , such a loss. GOD Bless his Soul.
This has to be one of my favorite songs to watch people react to. Buckley’s music, his singing especially, was just....pure. It seems impossible to resist to anyone who appreciates great talent and it makes me feel like I’m hearing it for the first time again when I watch someone else fall in love with it
The definition of can sing anything. He has covers spanning bob dylan, Nina Simone, Sly and the family stone, ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, the smiths and he even sang dido’s lament which is a legitimate opera in one take without rehearsal and would sing in Pakistani and French. Unmatched talent
Taking about a lover that should have come over its slow build to a huge climax. This song paints a picture in your mind while listening. His vocals are untouchable. There was no auto tune when this was recorded!
We lost him way to soon. I can only imagine still having his presence today, the music direction would be way different I can assure that. From the 90s till now he'll always be in my top 3 vocalists/artists of all time. Forget her or literally anything live with captivate your soul.
‘She’s the tear that hangs inside my soul forever.” Wow. This man left us far too soon. I can’t even imagine what else musically he would have blessed us with. If Angels sing they would sound like Jeff 💜
Jeff’s vocals are pure emotion. He doesn’t follow technical pronunciation and he doesnt need to, he’s quite lazy in his diction. But his four octave range and pure outpouring of emotion is what made him one of the greatest. Miss him.
I love him so much. I cried so hard listening to him. He’s so amazing. I lived in an apartment in Memphis near his house. Like, his voice is so soulful and haunting. Tragedy man
Well there's 2 different live BBC versions. Both are fucking unreal. The live video is the more famous, but the live audio from BBC Radio GLR is much more emotional. Basically he was on his way to the interview and was stuck in traffic. The cabbie turned on the radio and the host about to interview him, instead of prepping the audience for Jeff, spent about an hour focusing on his father, Tim Buckley. When he got there he was pissed. The interviewer asked shitty questions. But instead of walking out, he used that anger to fire up his performance of Grace. Haunting
@Kimberly Zamora, hope you had a good listen to his masterpiece, "Grace", both the album and the live performances. Beautiful, beautiful Jeff. For a short time in my mid twenties, I had a mad crush on a dead young man. I mourned his death and fell for the guy in the photos and his genius voice and songwriting, sweet Jeff, forever in his late, sexy twenties, crooning away.
Thank you for sharing the music of Jeff buckley!...May 29th marked the 23rd year that Jeff's been gone...It's people like you who keep Jeff's music alive and bless you for that!...If you love Jeff's music share it with the world ✌ ❤ 🎶 🌎 👏
"Is he a country singer?" He has no genre. He did everything. He even covered a Pakistani song by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan once in the Urdu language. Metal, Punk, Rock, Folk, Country, Opera, Classical, Jazz, R&B, Soul...he did everything.
Imma need you to go on ‘head and listen to that whole Grace album. You said you felt that. Exactly. You don’t listen to Jeff’s music you feel that ish in your spirit. Welcome to the cult of Buckley. I’m subbing you just off this one review. You got some singing chops too. 😊
Dude, great reaction!! "He had to be born to..." You nailed it!! His father, the late great Tim Buckley, was also an amazing singer, guitarist, songwriter. React to one of his songs and you will see what I mean. Been listening to all genre's of music for 50 years and in my humble opinion "Grace" is, top to bottom, the greatest album ever produced. Every single song on the track is spectacular!! And, again, check out his father, who was pretty damn spectacular himself!
It's hard to say that Jeff fit into any genre, but I think he was being positioned by the label to be a kind of bridge between the grunge rock of the early '90s and a soulful crooner. At least that's how I think of him. When you look at the way he created music and his artistic honesty he was maintaining the credibility of the grunge scene artists while being more diverse, delivering everything from soulful ballads to energetic punk. Needless to say, while the public doesn't know a whole lot about him you could ask almost any singer/musician/songwriter over the age of 30 who their idols are and I'd bet 80% of them would include Jeff Buckley. He really is one of the most underrated artists who ever lived, his voice was incredible, his skill and control was amazing, and he could write and play guitar too. It's a real shame his life was cut so short, it's so sad to think about all the amazing music he could have created in the last 23 years.
I heard Radiohead and Jamie Cullum sing this before I heard this version, and I liked those covers, but when I heard Jeff Buckley sing it, somehow it hit so much harder and it all made so much more sense. He conveys so much emotion with his voice it breaks me up every time. It's one of my favourite songs to sing (badly) when I'm alone in the car. I freaking love Jeff.
it's so funny how many people think he was a country singer when he was actually a rock singer \o/ and btw, I think you will like "lilac wine", which he covered from Nina Simone
You have got to listen to the title track from Grace (the French TV version), but also understand he would sing ANYTHING. He did covers of Van Morrison, Edith Piaf, and Nina Simone (Lilac Wine) and killed all of them. He was absolutely fearless. An underrated gem from him is his performance of What Would You Say from Glastonbury 95. Video is grainy but his range is undeniable. I also love the sexy Mojo Pin, the R&B influenced Everybody Here Wants You, and the song he said he wrote to tell his friend Chris Dowd from funk band Fishbone to not leave his pregnant girlfriend the way Jeff's dad Tim walked out on him, called Dream Brother. Powerful stuff. Check it out.
A golden voice who was taken from us far too young. One of the greats. Jeff could give you hard rock, folk rock, jazz rock, AND soul music. He was a compete artistic vision, right from the word "go." And he never lived to complete more than one album.
Loved your reaction....!! Awesome singer, writer, guitarist, artist....my favorite absolutely.....his music is full of endless hues...every song is a great story, the lirycs are gorgeous, and the armonies from another planet....
I AM SO EXCITED YOU CHOSE MY FAVORITE JEFF BUCKLEY SONG!!! I know you love Tool, but you ought to explore his side project, A Perfect Circle. I recommend Talltalk. #tsrgang
It's my favorite too. I have been known to tell people that it's number one on my list of songs I wish were written for me, even if it means I'm dead. "She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever?" Come. ON. Most amazing lyrics ever. I feel every second of this song.
Hallelujah was written and performed by Leonard Cohen originally. One of the (if not the) greatest song writers of all time. Also, I believe this song was written by his father Tim Buckley.

I love the "he's got all that stored up in him?" I could go on and on about Jeff but take the journey yourself.... romantically 💔
I watch reaction videos all the time. I’m obsessed with experiencing music for the first time through other prospects ears (eyes?). This was great. I happen to be a bit obsessed with Jeff Buckley, having covered him many nights, having the honor of meeting his best friend/manager (hearing great stories one degree away from him) and ultimately losing my ability to try to write songs due to this strange mentality of, “what else can I ever contribute.” Your reaction was great. And you have a great voice. It made me realize how great it would be to hear a soulful cover of this song by a modern artist. Soulful meaning church like. Anyway, great video. Thanks again!
Bro, if you want range, you have to check out his version of Van Morrison’s THE WAY YOUNG LOVERS DO from Live at Sin-e Legacy Edition. It might be his best display of range and ability to adapt a song. When Jeff did a cover, the original singer always has to tip his hat to Jeff for making his version the definitive version. Jeff made every second, every moment the most precious moment to exist in, with so much focus and detail. He hijacked time and space and owned it. Absolutely captivating. The Way Young Lovers Do, Live at Sin-e the Legacy Edition. You will not regret it. ALSO WHAT WILL YOU SAY from Mystery White Boy (live album). And don’t miss Everybody Here Wants You from Sketches for my Sweet Heart the Drunk, The Sky is a Landfill (for lyrics same album) and Satisfied Mind (Same Album).
No vocal fry whatsoever. C'mon Jeff! Can't pick a single favorite lyric, because each one just gets better as you listen. Jeff is crazy! YOUR voice is beautiful DJ magic person!
Jeff Buckley is another level, what a loss. If you like him, you have to listen to Conor mason from the band nothing but thieves. If you check out one of his best vocals videos - he is the modern day Jeff Buckley... It's like the dude is back!! They're heavily influenced by Jeff and you can hear it. This song is one of the greatest and saddest laments to lost love ever recorded! A true masterpiece!
The entire album is a true masterpiece!! Check it out.
The best lyric of all time in my opinion. “My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder”
That and 'All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter." That's etched on my wedding band.
…she’s a tear that hangs inside my soul forever.

Heavy Zep influence, but yep

Jeff Buckley. Genre: Jeff Buckley.
Haha. Yes
Fuck yeah! Always brings a smile & an ache in my heart, man Jeff gets me every time
Dam right.
Effing preach
Fact.
He was a guided spirit. Went for a swim in the Mississippi River one night and 5 days later his body was found floating near the foot of Beale Street.
Taking about a lover that should have come over its slow build to a huge climax. This song paints a picture in your mind while listening. His vocals are untouchable. There was no auto tune when this was recorded!
The entire album is amazing.
He had his own, unique voice. But so do you! Please never stop singing.
You gotta listen to live versions! He had a great live version of this in Chicago. Brought me and my boyfriend to tears.

Jeff’s voice was a gift to man from God.
He was taken from us far too soon, but I am certain his voice now sings praise unto almighty God.
Probably the greatest male voice I’ve ever heard. Which male voice is better?
Ok, for too of vocal range
Still struggle at times with the fact that Jeff and Chris Cornell are gone.
