I actually see this bike as a real riders e-bike. Not too much battery for the typical ride, and the additional pack for those +30 milers. Moreover, it’s made for real enduro gnarl trail having the weight centered with the rider. Instead of offsetting your riding style to compensate for weight distribution, you can just hit it from how it appears. Would love to try this bike in the PNW. Here you climb to get happy, so again it’s nice to have a good pedal. You can increase the front to 170 as well. Nice looking bike.
Personally I like the design, it's distinctive, a great many e-bikes just look too samey, at least this will get comments when out on the trail be it positive or negative.
Hey Rob Rides Emtb! It must be rough spending so much time in southern Europe testing all these new top end bikes in all that dust! If you were in England you could test the performance in mud!!!! Keep up the good work! Ride ride ride!
@Brendan Tovey Lapierre is not just low like the Whyte, it's rearward biased and significantly lighter. It also has short stay partly thanks to the 27.5 mullet wheels. So there are a number of improvement compared to the whyte. It's priceier tho but the second model is decently priced for the spec.
Lapierre/Haibike/Ghost have always been at the forefront of cutting edge tech. I recall the electronic controlled shock, Electronic Intelligence. Back in 2012 I think? And then the Overvolt AM in 2018. Even their failed X control, shows how they are always innovating and thinking ahead.
They also had wonderful 130mm 29 trail bikes in 2012 Zesty something. But sometime they make mistakes in handling sutff/communication which prevent them to challenge Specialized trek and the like. It's too bad because the bikes are great.
I like it, even if it looks a bit weird. I Don't mind the controls/display. He's right about simpler is better. You should see my "display" eh. Nico's riding is impressive af. That is one gorgeous bike Rob. Reminds Me of the Ducati MIG RR. And how refreshing being proud of a emtb looking like a emtb..... Brilliant! Fab review Rob as always 🤟🚴
Rob great review, would you say the steering felt as light as the Levo SL? I compare that to really darn close to non emtb feeling. I’m wondering if overall weight or mass location is really responsible for that feel. It would be amazing to have that feeling in a full powered emtb. *also when you throw the sticker up can you show your whole chart so we can see what it compares to? You might want to consider sticker adjustment as well as new bikes come out your standards for performance and value have to have changed right?
Thanks David. The SL and this feel so different it’s very hard to compare. SL is just all round light! The GLP2 is front Light! Sure I need to revise this chart. I have seen some more ideas from people also to help :-)
Great vid. Could you share where the trails were? (I’m originally from this part of the world but that was pre mtb... so don’t know where the trails are...)
Hello Im thinking about buying a BMC speed fox AMP 5 2020. Its I can pay with my money and the fact I live in Brazil and Here everything is too expendias. What do you think?
I very nearly bought one of these and would of if it wasn’t for my work increasing the limit to only £2000. I ended buying up a Vitus which also has a removable battery. Weirdly the removable battery is something a really appreciate.
Might have said before but ur a lucky man testing this stuff in great locations!! Another great vid tho. Bike looks good and dropping the weight closer to the center/BB is interesting. If I was in the mkt for a new eBike at that price point however, not sure that's what i'd choose. But who knows without testing. Think i'll stick with Spesh for now !!
Apparently for even greater range, along with the spare battery rucksack “innovation,“ we can soon look forward to a trailer attachment that will effortlessly carry a further three batteries for those really long days out.
So I live in the PNW and would love to get my leg over this bike. That appears impossible because there is no dealer in North America! Can I buy a frame from UK or France and build it myself?
It would be great to have the "cool Wall" digital now so you can add infinite bikes without covering over others , e.g. a bike list we can re-sort by fun points out of 100 , price points out of 100 and that displays a graph using the name and two data points.

Can you be a bit more specific on where you ride on these trips away. I am in Nice in April and would love to know of any local spots to there. But also need to have a to do list for good spots. Thanks Rob.
Happy to finally someone tested this bike. How do you think it compares to others top enduro emtb like turbo levo, orbea wild, treck rail and merida e one sixty? I has apprehensive about the climbing capacity...good to know that is good in that to. Keep the good work
Its a more capable enduro bike than Levo / Orbea Wild... especially if you like long reach. Levo and Wild are more trail than enduro in my opinion. Not tested the Rail or e160 yet.
Bosch need to take a leaf out of the Shimano playbook with a separate display and mode switch. 2x batteries is my preferred way of doing things as well.
Nice video, bike look nice, but for me i would like kiox,if was looking new ebike, that's why i did in December 2019 buy 2020 hardtail e-mtb from cube, and large battery out of the bag,and in my 3000 budget, but as said, kiox was my main thing
Hi Rob....bike looks Awesome... like the two batteries..1 for short rides 2 for long rides.... display is old hat...and the price is stupid....levo an decoy beat it hands down....great real world review as always...I here Shimano have a new motor coming out...I'm sure your on it... cheers
Yeah, but this battery is significantly lighter and easier to remove. Carrying a spare is way easier too because of the stubby shape. Horses for courses; personally I’d rather have 1x 500Wh plus 1x300Wh than a single 700Wh.
Unfortunately your (unjustified imho) dislike for the Bosch motor came across in this video/test than ever. This is a shame as people (including myself) look to you as the impartial "go-to" reviewer for e-bikes. Other than that, another good video and can't wait for the next one!
I have the gen 4. Cube Tm. I've not so far heard this clunk you mention. Ive probs 100km of riding so far and cant say I've heard it. And I'm super picky about noises lol! It has been wet every single ride so far though so mostly hear tyres on mud etc.
Cool video, might be one to demo. I agree about the display, they need more compact version. My preferred combo at the mo is e7000 switch and e8000 screen (Shimano). Final note Rob, I think your fun/value graph probably needs to have the model year recorded on the (high tech 😅) post-it notes, as it's going to get a little confusing as new bikes with the same name come around. Also if one MY was good and another a shocker, and you tested the good one, someone could pick up the wrong one thinking you recommended it 👍
You'll get a very marginal gain and be stuck with some proprietary lapierre part. Standard Bosch stuff should be available no problem in 10 years. Much prefer that way.
Ben Riding That battery is significantly lighter and easier to remove. Carrying a spare is way easier too because of the stubby shape. Horses for courses; personally I’d rather have 1x 500Wh plus 1x300Wh than a single 700Wh.
@@gingermattb I use to think that way too until I rode with some new friends that have the new Levo's with the 700ah battery! @@benriding8678 I have a new gen 4 bosch bike with 625 wh long powertube and it's really front heavy to my taste. The 500 is much shorter and significantly lighter. Make for a lighter frame too. Win win. Don't mind carrying occasionaly a pack in my back for long rider. Also depending on the configuration you can hide you battery somewhere on the trail and gather it on your way back.
It will be much faster than the Kenevo though. Because the Kenevo will be next to the levo in the shop having its motor replaced or the power cable changed. The brose motor is the quietest motor not because of the belt drive but because it spends most of it's time not working. LBS told me that they have had to replace nearly every power cable on every bike they have sold.

Yeah, nothing here that makes my Kenevo look weak. It's a nice looking bike, but I would have smashed that display already, and the lack of integration is not innovative, but a tad dated. This and the new Heckler are both playing catch-up, not leading the way.
Hey all, what you think of this bike from Lapierre? Super interesting with the weight distribution being a key aspect to the design!
That weight distribution looks the part.. But at €8500 way too expensive for the average Joe (me) ... Nevertheless I am impressed
