    Lots of work Dan. Coming along well. This is exactly how you improve your already impressive skill set. Too many of us sit & wonder what if I screw it up. The result is we do nothing. I really appreciate your "we'll figure it out" approach.

    Dan, love your videos. The most realistic channel on what it like to work on old cars. You show all the ups and down, trails and tribulations. That you don't need to spend many thousands of dollars to have a cool car. Just the old school way of doing things. Get started make mistakes, start over do it again. Get the car back on the road and over time make improvements. It's the best way to learn and get more proficient. It stays fun that way, it doesn't have to be perfect. 99% of people couldn't find the flaws and those that can usually don't have an old car. kept up the good work and love its so Canadian in its style and presentation.

    Hey Dan. WHO AND WHY WOULD SOMEONE GIVE YOU A 👎? You have one of the best channels on RUclips. I almost burnt my shop down with some sparks that landed on that cardboard stuff and I didn't notice. I went into the house for supper and something told me to go out to the shop. When I opened the door, it was full of smoke. Scared the shit out of me. No real damage, but lots of stinky smoke. You are doing a real bang up job Dan. Well, it's starting to snow now, so you inspired me to get out and do something on my FARGO. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍

    Great job! I really enjoy the bodywork episodes. You're doing some really good body work on cars that most people have abandon and you're bringing them back to life. And you're it in a small garage behind your house in the evenings and on weekends. You're an inspiration to hobbyists everywhere.

    Temporary Cleco rivets are handy for that kind of metal work, and heat fence putty helps keep the metal warp down while welding, at least it worked well on the wheel arches on an old square body.

    Quarter dent: make yourself a custom pick. Lop about a third of a coil off a coil spring, weld that to a similar diameter bar (doesn't have to be right on the end, just well attached) long enough to leave some sticking out when you put it in the quarter from the top.Then grind the end of the coil so you get a bulb or point depending on need. That end and the bar will drop down where the window goes and with the curve of the coil you now have leverage or the bar higher up against the top edges of the inner and outer sheet metal. IF you put a "T" handle on it, its easier to twist and you can orient where the coil is relative to the inside of the dent you are trying to manipulate.

    A tip with the coke can dents that want to either go in or pop out wards, heat the center of the dent with the torch no bigger than a quarter till its glowin orange and take your compressed air blow gun and hit it with air full blast right on the orange area and the metal will shrink and pull the dent to center. Works good on huge dents that do that, also in my personal experience as far as quenching panel welds the blow gun works better than water. Great work so far!

    You should still hammer and dolly the door. Removing the high spots will shrink the metal and then the steel will develop tension that will help it hold it's shape. Work in small sections because the door has a crown top to bottom. You said you hate body work, but it looks good. Way better than the mud packers.

  • @byrnejr
    @byrnejr 3 года назад

    If you tap on the crown of the dent with your body hammer ,as you pull on it with your dent puller it will release some of the pressure and help pop out the dent without stretching the metal. Nice job keep up the good work

    Dry ice is good to shrink out a crease or hail dent Dan , very simple , just put it on the stretched area

  • @bigpoohbear2272
    @bigpoohbear2272 3 года назад

    If you take the torch and heat both sides of the crease it will push the metal up to a crown. Then you can take a metal file and and knock the crown of the dent down. That makes it smooth and takes the oil canning out of the metal. Then when you have the dents smoothed out you can skim it with light white filler. Use a long board to work the filler and you should be ready for primer. Good luck hope this helps.

    I used Fitzee's method of fitting and welding in patch panels, tack the panel in place then use a cutting wheel in small sections at the seam to allow the panel to fit flush. You can see it in his videos. Works perfectly.

    When using uni studs you can grab studs and put pulling pressure and can use a body hammer (sometimes a shrinking hammer)on highs above and below .You’re trying to move the high metal into the lows.If possible to get a spoon or dolly inside door then also hammer and dolly would fine tune the metal.
