    Another great video and very timely to remind us how awesome our southern summer sky is. The church images are great and as always your light painting is unbeatable, but that last panorama with the reflection in the dam…. Wow! If you get time in the schedule a video of processing the more subtle details of the summer sky like Barnard’s loop etc that show up so well in these images would be brilliant, I know this is a big challenge for many photographers. Great work and thanks as always.

    Wonderful images Richard, I was out last night here in Scotland, also photographing a church in very windy conditions, tried a vertical pano but now wish I’d tried a traditional pano as very warped edges, your light painting in your pano is incredible, as I ended up using a couple of video lights to keep my lighting consistent. • @andreaboyle9435
    @andreaboyle9435 Месяц назад +2

    You mentioned that you needed to change your settings a bit to pull enough signal from Orion, as opposed to what you usually do for the Milky Way. Do you mean 1600 ISO rather than 800? I'd also love to see a future video on editing your summer sky constellations, as that's what I have to work with now in the US. Again, thanks for a great video!!

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад +1

      No it's not so much about the settings as how many shots I took. So for Orion I like to stack maybe 10 images rather than just take one image ... which is what I tend to do with the milky way. Stacking gives you greater signal and less noise so you can push the image more in post.
      Having said that, the final panorama of the dam is made up of single frames for each panel and that came up really well.

    Should have shot me a message the night you went out, being only 10 minutes away i could have come to check out the master in action. I find it hard this side of town to find decent subjects, but I'm a bit more nervous of approaching farmers and asking permission but from my drives around Muskerry/Myola area there's not overly much although about 5km as the crow flys on Rigbye Rd there is an old shed and broken windmill but couldn't find anyone to ask about it.

    Richard . Thank you for such a beautiful video. My friend & I shot Orion in January this year: found it more technically challenging: so as Eric mentioned, an editing video if possible, would be so awesome please. And can I ask what torch do you use for light painting of large objects ? Thank you again for your magical content. Cheers Manjul

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks again for your great encouragement Manjul. I'll have a look at another editing video as the season rolls on for sure. I used the LED Lenser P7 torch for lighting on the church and hay bales etc.
      I do sometimes use small led panels to do low level lighting but I prefer the torch .. but it's harder technically to do.

    Was that a falling star I saw at min.10:03 up over the church?

      Very possibly, I usually don't see them when I'm out there talking to camera and wandering around.

    Great video and images. Thx. I always find it difficult to find the right amount of light painting. Do you have a rule of thumb for that, or is it just trial and error?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад

      I guess it is trial and error, but there are variables such as color of subject, distance and brightness etc.

    hello Richard and community, another amazing nightscape photo thanks for all you videos and tutorials ^^
    i have a question : is your Nikon z6 II partially or totally unfiltered please because i want to buy one and i don't know if i have to do this ?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching. It has what is known as a "Visible + h-alpha" modification. This is different to a "Full Spectrum" mod. You certainly don't have to do any modifications to a Nikon Z6ii to achieve wonderful images .. it just helps see more of the reds and pinks.

    Love your stuff, Richard. Question: Since it looks like you used your astro modified cam for the whole shoot, did the church come out red? Did you have to color correct it in post?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад

      Thanks Terry. Yes I did use the astro mod camera for the foregrounds as well. I set the white balance in camera to about 3000k and change the tint a little to the green. But yes the original RAW files have a lot more red than normal and I do considerable color correction in post.

    Another great video mate. A question, when you was light painting the church, you looked to be between the light and the camera, how does this not leave a missing silhouette of light?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching. A lot of the video footage isn't when I'm actually taking the images .. I have to make the lighting a bit brighter for the video recording.

    Your daytime planning and long nights have certainly paid off! Absolutely cracking images! Just a quick question - I notice you use white torch/headlamp during setup, does this mess with your night vision? Any particular reason why you don't use red light?

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  Месяц назад

      Thanks so much for watching. I never use a red headlamp. I find red light to be very invasive in photography. . much worse than white light. I don't worry about night vision .. especially as I'm often doing light painting anyway.
      The other aspect is safety . .I'm often on the move when shooting .. doing light painting etc .. and a red head torch makes it really hard to see properly.
      I think in an observatory situation red lights are very valuable so we can see very faint detail in telescopes but out in a paddock when taking images not so much.
      So in answer to your question. Yes white light does impact on night vision but that isn't of particular concern to me.

      I used my trusty old LED Lenser P7 torch for that. On it's lowest setting mostly.

    Hola, buenas tardes!! Tengo una duda sobre modificar una nueva cámara que compré hace poco Sony a7iii ya que uso este sistema de mirroles. Soy de España ( de las islas canarias ) y si en España hay donde modificar la cámara para astrofotografía pero he escuchado que suele dar problemas . Me gustaría saber si aconsejas algún lugar que te suponga confianza y que hayas escuchado buena referencia por tu experiencia por su uso. Saludos y nos vemos en tu próximo video ❤
    Muchas gracias

      Thanks so much for watching. I don't think the A7iii will have any problems. I have heard of issues with the A7R2 Sony however. I had my modification done here in Australia but I have no knowledge of Spanish companies that do such things.

      Well as the weather warms up I do take a bit more care. Snakes, spiders and ants are the worst . .although the mosquitoes are terrible in the warmer weather.
      Most of my milky way shooting happens in the cooler months where none of the above are an issue.
