Very cool that a service is back. This needs a web administration page like the previous SMSGTE service so we never have to expose private phone numbers over APRS Messages history as they get initially aliased.
I can’t think of the regulation right now, but I know that, for work, we had to change up some things and add SMS opt-outs to our website so we could use even internal SMS things. I believe it was some regulation that went into effect back in September. By the looks of it, this is set up to comply with that regulation, and also probably why the previous one would shut down. It was a pain for our IT team.
Thanks Jason. Yes they need a admin page to avoid phone number displaying on the web. BTW I ran a test and it never got an Opt in message. Did it change?
I had read a piece about opt in and opt out on web services and they said that the EU was where things really changed and got tight. Thinking maybe the original SMSGTE service was world wide and couldn't modify itself to not include the EU ?
APRS question.... say my radio is OFF and a friend sends me an APRS message...... will I get that message if I turn my radio on in say 5 hours after he sends it? And if I get sent an SMS APRS message... will I get that later if my radio is turned off? thanks for the great video !
Recently tried to use this. I have gotten it working with one issue. Any message received comes across 5 times. I'm using and Anytone 878 and going into a local DMR repeater that allows Brandmeister. Any ideas?
That typically indicates that an ack isn't heard saying that the message was received. APRS messages are repeated 4 or 5 times unless they hear an ack which clears the TX tries.
Confused - so if someone wanted to SMS me on my APRS radio, without me sending a text first, from their phone they would enter the gateway phone number? What is that number?
The operators of this service and every digipeater are licensed and carrying them as third-party traffic. (Which I suppose influences the countries allowed.)
I opted-in when I heard about this several weeks ago. My sole test worked, so its another tool ready to go.
Gotta watch this later to compare

I hope he's working on that. It's a relatively new service so I expect more features down the road.

Woot! Thanks for sharing Jason!

I also opted in, before I went to Quartzfest.
Thank you Jason. Keep up the videos.
Now who is going to tell Mike k8mrd about this. 😊
The question is "how can we troll Mike with this?" lol
Thanks for the sharing the information in this video.

Big thumbs up! Thanks. 73 - AA4K
Do you have a video how to send email?
I am having trouble sending a message back once my cellphone got the message. Yes, I opted in on that website.
Hope VK is included soon
Thanks for the tutorial; however, I followed your instructions step by step and I am still having problems. I am using a TNC 3.

Now if you try this over HF what frequency does it use?
Dang, this is just a tease for us in VK.😐
Hopefully it will be expanding soon
🙏👌
Special countries first, 😉 great job and I hope you get it soon 👍.
Thanks for sharing Jason. M5AEI
Sounds like it's working on my radio side. Not receiving any messages....I have Verizon and I'm using a Ft3d. Any suggestions....thank you
Jason, any idea how this works or what it looks like radio to radio?
For radio to radio use APRS messages. Just address the message to the other operators call+SSID. For instance, one of my APRS calls is KM4ACK-15
Yes just use APRS as services do go down once in a while. This happened to WXBOT for a bit.
I need a step by step guide.

Unfortunately not. APRS messaging doesn't store message for later retrieval. However, the dev of SMS is working on this feature per his site.

Is there only one alias per callsign allowed?
Pretty sure it will take multiples
Can this WEB CHAT interface be run from a Android device or is this only fro Linux OS? Thanks...
It's not Linux only as it runs on Python. However, I don't think it will run on Android. It should run equally well on Mac or Windows though.
so you mean to tell me that i can't just use the app on my phone to send a message???
How would I do this from JS8Call?
Just replace "SMSGTE" with "SMS" in JS8Call. More details at the JS8Call forum - groups.io/g/js8call/topics
@KM4ACK ty for replying. Love your vids.
Does this play well with IPhones? The last version of SMSgate didn't support IPhone messaging for some reason I was never able to figure out.
Yes. I was able to send a message to my iPhone
@@KM4ACK Thank you for the reply and the video. Great work and enjoying your content.

Wait - I think I see it. it is the number that texted us when we opted in, correct?
Yes
@@mikeph4 thanks!
Fantastic vid, Jason.
Thanks!
I'm trying to understand how having unlicensed people sending texts that go out over ham radio is legal.
Sad Ham!

Looks like the page is down already. :/
It's working for me
