@@blues3531 right, a lot of them are incorrect on some phrasing or notes, or even positions. There are many versions, with one usually being voted to the top for its accuracy. Any guitarist worth his salt can usually make the minor adjustments if there was a blunder in the transcription. At 6:25 Tim says to hammer on the 9th fret of the A string, but it's actually the 7th fret of the A string. And at 6:17 it sounds like he says to hybrid pick the open E but you actually have to hybrid pick the open B string. Still the best tutorial for G.O.A.T out there. Sharing your gift. Sir you are a gentleman and a scholar. I am a lady fast approaching autumn years who doesn't play guitar, but I can appreciate your unique brilliance. The world needs teachers like you. Pure gold.
These videos are unbelievably inspiring to me. I am what I could only describe as a beginner or a bit further along than that guitarist. Attempting to play anything you've written is very much so like scaling a brick wall. But the in depth videos like this allow me to get a huge amount of value and keep me from getting burnt out looking at tablature. BTW ty for being so cool, I'm the v tall 6'8" dude from the show in sacramento when u toured with coheed. I will not forget how nice you were, or how big scott's nose is.
I can't imagine the level of genius it takes to conjure up such a unique and amazing riff. You are a God level guitar player, but this song in particular tickles parts of my brain that no other melody ever has
It’s called math rock for a reason. They send an algorithm thru a computer and mid-board and then replicate the numbers to notes with their instruments. Not as crazy song writing as you may think.
No BS, straight to the point. I like tutorials that follow that simple point. I don't need to know that the guitar is an instrument, generally with 6 strings, each string has a name, and that the name of the note changes depending on where you press, which I find in way too many tutorials on youtube.
The fact that the GOAT is taking the time to teach the world his amazing song G.O.A.T. … what a selfless, confident human being Tim is, what a world we live in today. Years ago we would stare at album covers for hours just imagining and wondering what the artist are like…. Today the greatest artists are giving us free lessons 🤯🤯🤯
In all seriousness though - how did you actually come up with this Tim - I have seen how you create etc But just how you mix the different styles and techniques etc is just phenomenal The amount of people who play guitar and have over all of time - nobody had ever thought of the instrument like you do Sincerely Thankyou for sharing - you are a once in a generation player who has single handedly changed the landscape of guitar forever
I imagine there have been tons of cool riffs lost forever all those time people got into a flow state and didnt get the idea out on paper or record it. It is a truly unique style though.
Ive heard people say its taken them like 7 months to learn this. Its only 18 seconds long. It sounds simple, but as soon as I tried, I realised how presice it is and how hard it is to get it to sound right
today is one of the day i'm happy the internet is a thing, learning the riff from the dude that actually wrote it is amazing, you should do more of this for your most iconic riffs and maybe release full lessons to sell, i'd certainly buy them
I love your music so much! It`s hard, complex, fun and estetic. You inspiring and motivating me to do my own music and improve my guitar skill. Thank you
I have absolutely no idea what Tim’s is talking about I’ve never touched a guitar except when I was a very small child and didn’t understand how music worked and have no clue what a “harmonic”, “open b”, “octaves”, or a “phrase” is. I just love how this man explains stuff and how godly he is lmao
Absolutely amazing.. and the best part is he doesnt mind sharing knowledge.... i just can't get over his technique... and how easy it's just flowing out of him and you can feel every notation
This is crazy!!! Little correction.. in the second lick of the second phrase you say to hammer on the 17 th while you actually hammer the 19th. I will not die before i can play this masterpiece
Hearing you mention that slide and how you don't do it live is super refreshing, I feel like a lot of guitarists will use little differences from the recorded versions of their songs during live sets but are more resistant to admit it 😅
The first time I heard this song almost two years ago, it absolutely obliterated my mind, and every time I listen to it again, I still mostly get that same feeling. Absolutely incredible, Tim and Polyphia.
This is awesome, Thank you. Can i just point out for anyone who is learning this, in the triplet tapping section, Tim accidentally says the second tapped note is 17 when it actually 19. So tap the 20th then 19th then pull off to open.
Recent sub, thanks for the content. I like your style from the first time I saw one of your videos. You and others have taken music and guitar playing to a whole new place, I believe that you haven't allowed yourself to be limited by what others said can't be done.
People who are following this tutorial and saying great things are either blind or deaf, 6:24 - Tim Says hit on 9th fret while he hits on 7th fret. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Tim but the tabs are not perfect.
Tim out here looking like the Jedi guitar master he is. I love that your approach to music is the love of music and making music with others. Thanks for the comprehensive breakdown
Just a head up, on the tapping triplets you tap the 20th, hammer on the 10th of the E, and then tap 19 not 17! He plays it correct here he just misspoke on accident! Great stuff as always, Tim!
Dude is hanging out in his robe or kimono and teaching people how to play his riffs. I don’t know if people still refer to others as G’s because I’m old AF but this guy is a G. Thanks Tim.
Tim got some serious skills. I know he has worked hard to be the absolute GOAT but as a guitar player, i gave up on this the first time i attempted to learn it. Ill be honest, i just picked up by ear, something to show off with and sounding similar but ive come back to it woth this tutorial and my advice is this to average players. Use settings to slow the vid down and pause it on each section you work on until you have it memorized. I found using the specific fingers he advised helped massively And dont be too hesitant to play it at speed yet. Just learn it and memorize it and practice it even if its all out of sync. As you repeat it you will get smoother and more fluid. With it. And lastly this piece is difficult. Technical. Theres many things happening at the same time which you may not be used to doing. Even hybrid picking for me was so alien feeling. But sticknat it. In an hour i learnt the first 10 seconds. Now with repetitive practice it will get smoother and flow nicer. Thanks for pitting this tutorial out there man. Respect
Also you got to have your intonation set up right to know them harmonics are where they are supposed to be and are consistent. My ibanez has a floyd type trem but this is the first time ive really had to use harmonics regularly and at speed. Some were on the fret wire itself and some were inbetween the fret it was so annoying. I spent about 20 minutes shifting saddles to get them nice and its made such a difference. Another tip. Dead ass old strings dont like to catch the harmonics as sweet. They go dull and dry. Fresh slinkys for me tomorrow
My best advice to average players build up to be better players and come back to this. Learn marigold by periphery then take a shot at this. Or Faust by the human abstract if you like metal. Haha 😂 but those are hard too for average guitarist still a bit more attainable

@@blues3531 right, a lot of them are incorrect on some phrasing or notes, or even positions. There are many versions, with one usually being voted to the top for its accuracy. Any guitarist worth his salt can usually make the minor adjustments if there was a blunder in the transcription.
I also realize Polyphia is one of the very few artists that refuse the transcriptions of their music to be available on UG
@@ICee712 that's so weird, all their tabs are "there" on UG, but if you try to go into any of them it says Unavailable for legal reasons.
I was one of the unlucky few that payed for these tabs 😭
Always love it when you find out you’ve been playing parts of the song the wrong way after spending way too much time practicing them!
i feel like ive had this music in my heart my entire life and now tim is letting me listen to it for the first time.
Actually goated for this. Keep them up and bring some more tutorials every now and then, they're much appreciated!
I'm on and off learning this Song for 2 years now and this video helps alot.
Thanks for watching
Feed back appreciated I have a private discussion with you massage the name above ⬆️via nicegram
And at 2:43 You actually tap 19.
Maybe the guitar is on a different tune and we are the one's mistaken? xD
@@Mateus-dr9mn dat be true
It took me half a year to learn Goat 👁️👅👁️
Also the bells at the intro are cool, but it also sounds delicious played using harmonics.
Also huge shout out to the producer & mixing engeneer.
Also found ways to make the into riff easier without loosing the quality 😎
It's been 1.5 years and I still can't do it. But I have a feeling this year I can finally pull it off
Tim’s contribution to music and especially guitar music is immeasurable … Very cool he is from our town. Live long and prosper Sir …
Sharing your gift. Sir you are a gentleman and a scholar. I am a lady fast approaching autumn years who doesn't play guitar, but I can appreciate your unique brilliance. The world needs teachers like you. Pure gold.
Holy shit, are you saying that's a dude?
@@MrNiceGuy2323 As far as I am aware 😊very stylish too.
Gonna now need a breakdown video for every other Polyphia song. Every one.
😂 right?
I think it's the hair. Has to be.
I love how clear this is as an instructional.
No BS, straight to the point.
I like tutorials that follow that simple point.
I don't need to know that the guitar is an instrument, generally with 6 strings, each string has a name, and that the name of the note changes depending on where you press, which I find in way too many tutorials on youtube.
how can you not love this guy, he shared everything to all his fans.
I cant get over how nice that guitar sounds my goodness
Dope man. Thanks for the content. Always a pleasure to see a musician share their insights/passion
Recently started watching Tim's vids and i gotta say. He seems like a truly gentle soul.
Really appreciate you putting up a tutorial. You’re inspiring guitarists all over the world to pick up and play😊
That's really what Tim wants, for people to get out there and play.
In all seriousness though - how did you actually come up with this Tim - I have seen how you create etc
But just how you mix the different styles and techniques etc is just phenomenal
The amount of people who play guitar and have over all of time - nobody had ever thought of the instrument like you do
Sincerely Thankyou for sharing - you are a once in a generation player who has single handedly changed the landscape of guitar forever
I imagine there have been tons of cool riffs lost forever all those time people got into a flow state and didnt get the idea out on paper or record it. It is a truly unique style though.
he has a video somewhere on his channel
He listened to Jaden Smith (unironic)
AAL and CHON
I was practicing goat when this was posted I literally got the notification while practicing it
Ive heard people say its taken them like 7 months to learn this. Its only 18 seconds long.
It sounds simple, but as soon as I tried, I realised how presice it is and how hard it is to get it to sound right
today is one of the day i'm happy the internet is a thing, learning the riff from the dude that actually wrote it is amazing, you should do more of this for your most iconic riffs and maybe release full lessons to sell, i'd certainly buy them
Love the tutorial format my guy! And such an epic song too 🔥
I love your music so much! It`s hard, complex, fun and estetic. You inspiring and motivating me to do my own music and improve my guitar skill. Thank you

Tim Henson is reaching levels of androgyny never before thought possible lmao great stuff the guitar work is mesmerizing
0:12 The part that made me stop trying to play this song years ago☠️
omg i didnt even get to that part💀
Mine is 0:04
Ive been learning it and ive spent like 5 hours and still cant full speed it, if you practice it you can get it man @joshuawushibin
Mine is 0:01
My favorite part was the "record slowdown" effect by slowly pulling in the whammy bar at 7:17 haha, I'm simple.
I just keep liking this guy more and more. He's just so flippin cool and good at guitar. 😲
Thanks for watching

and he is also very cute, his hair is so shaggy 😄))
Pls do a makeup tutorial Tim!
After watching this, I looked at my guitar and it just kinda said "just don't, play wonderwall instead"
this is the beauty of this technology era where you get free tutorial straight from the artists themselves
This is awesome, Thank you. Can i just point out for anyone who is learning this, in the triplet tapping section, Tim accidentally says the second tapped note is 17 when it actually 19. So tap the 20th then 19th then pull off to open.
Agreed
This guy’s not even close to the song. Waiting until Marty Swartz does this song lesson instead…
Ur kidding right 😂😂😂😂
Bruh he made the song
lol
Marty is the man
Umm ok then. 🤣
Recent sub, thanks for the content. I like your style from the first time I saw one of your videos. You and others have taken music and guitar playing to a whole new place, I believe that you haven't allowed yourself to be limited by what others said can't be done.
3:30 doesn't play an octave slide live because it's hard 😏
dude you explaining how to play it just makes it even crazier. Such depth in so little time
First phrase 0:55
Triplet tapping 2:04
3:06
5:20
Sextuplets 6:06
Phrase 4 7:11
This tutorial needs a tutorial
People who are following this tutorial and saying great things are either blind or deaf, 6:24 - Tim Says hit on 9th fret while he hits on 7th fret.
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Tim but the tabs are not perfect.
lmao he misspeaks at least twice in every tutorial
its because 90% of people are just commenting to glurp on tim and could never play this in their lives😂
also right before that he says “open e” but its obviously open b. geez does he not watch this??
Please make video "How to make polyphia hair"
Tim out here looking like the Jedi guitar master he is. I love that your approach to music is the love of music and making music with others. Thanks for the comprehensive breakdown
Just a head up, on the tapping triplets you tap the 20th, hammer on the 10th of the E, and then tap 19 not 17! He plays it correct here he just misspoke on accident!
Great stuff as always, Tim!
0:36 His hair looks like a fish. (:
You can't. Saved you 8:12
😂
Bros 4 years late
Ong 🤣
Dude is hanging out in his robe or kimono and teaching people how to play his riffs. I don’t know if people still refer to others as G’s because I’m old AF but this guy is a G. Thanks Tim.
Thanks for watching ❤️
Tele_gram me I have a surprised package 🎁 for you ..
chad Tim
Tim got some serious skills. I know he has worked hard to be the absolute GOAT but as a guitar player, i gave up on this the first time i attempted to learn it. Ill be honest, i just picked up by ear, something to show off with and sounding similar but ive come back to it woth this tutorial and my advice is this to average players.
Use settings to slow the vid down and pause it on each section you work on until you have it memorized.
I found using the specific fingers he advised helped massively
And dont be too hesitant to play it at speed yet.
One of the greatest tutorials I've seen. Managed to grasp it all pretty quickly, gotta get it up to speed now. Big thank you Tim! Keep it up

His technique is very sophisticated
This song is super hard at my skill level but this is one of the best yt guitar tutorials I’ve watched
Not only a masterful guitarist but a good educator as well
Everything he is offering as a subscription package has to be the most worth RUclipsr subscription. Paying for his talent and views is worth every penny
Tim uploading GOAT into all the brains downloading it. I remember a kid at school giving me the tablature for Marilyn Manson's rendition of Sweet Dreams, just rando handed it to me during lunch one day after I'd asked him after seeing him play it. This was back in the mid-90s. This video reminded me of that, slipping all the kids the tabs for GOAT during lunch.
