question .... if i made a wooden board , 5 ft x 22 and about 2 inches thick , would it float and surf if i did not hollow it out ? i weigh about 130 pounds and am not a pro but can surf fairly well. do you think this would work ? i just do not have the proper tools to really hollow it out. nor the money to keep buying materials if i ruined it the first time :'( :)

if you made it those dimensions and wide in the nose and tail it would be about 25 litres which would be plenty of volume if the board was light, if you found some light density paulownia and just tung oiled it it would be ok but on the heavy side and not super floaty.

@mario pena You can hollow it with a hand drill and jigsaw. Not very expensive.

All the tools you would need to hollow it out could cost you less than $80, that would include a drill. You can probably get an electric drill for $30-40 bucks 3 drill bits of different sizes about $20 and a hand jigsaw which is about $10 with the blades $20 at the most. If you're worried you're going to make mistakes, we all do. but if you think you're going to butcher it, start off on some scrap wood, any wood you can find. practice drilling and cutting on it before you start on your own board, if you make it solid you're not going to use much it you probably take the board out twice. If you go to a yard sale selling old tools you can probably get the tools for 20 bucks total. if you can find the ones you need.hell if you live in northern California or I'll give them to you.
