Abandoned COVID 19 Mall of America MY CHILDHOOD MALL (Silver City Galleria)

- In 2002, Silver City Galleria was purchased in a joint venture between General Growth Properties and the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois in a $634 million deal that involved three other malls.
Sadly in it's most recent years the only thing to remain open was Regal cinemas, Dick Sporting goods, and Round one.
Regal Cinemas shut down in 2020 as part of a temporary closure of all Regal theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On December 11, 2020, it was announced Round One Entertainment would be closing in January 2021. Dick's Sporting Goods closed in early January 2021. On January 21, 2021, it was announced that Silver City Galleria would be demolished in February, with one investor saying it was too expensive to keep open. Demolition work began the following month. The Silver City Galleria was officially demolished on May 9, 2021.

So many kids will never know the feeling of your parents dropping you off on a saturday to meet your friends at the mall 😢
True that i miss thoes days
Unless you're in south florida; we have a ton of thriving malls here
My friends and I had fun doing this, especially in the winter. Chilling out and grabbing food in the food court was a thing we did.
Your so spot on
I enjoy seeing you and Josh togeather. You are both so respectful and don't try to add drama. Thank you for another great video♥️
I'm a 46 year old, and I enjoyed a time in the 1980s when life was full of life!!!!! The malls were awesome place to go!
Yes!!! My home city mall! Miss going to this place every weekend chilling with the friends, car meets, and everything else! Definitely a great childhood memory for sure!
Yep I went there to. Lots of traffic trying to get in there ! I’m surprised they didn’t sell it to a new owner and make it better. I don’t know why they went down hill so fast ! Love from Massachusetts! ❤️🙏
Don’t know why they went downhill?? Amazon…
Nice to see you and Josh connecting to do abandoned. So glad you got to film this place before it was torn down. Great video.
There is a Mall in North Wales Pennsylvania rumored to be demolished soon....
Btw: one of my employees' daughter was on a hoverboard and fell off becoming paralyzed. Be careful!
You guys had too much fun in here! It's amazing how a trip down memory lane brings out the kid in all of us. It does break my heart to see malls declining. That's one of the downsides to the advent of the internet age. For everything gained, there's something lost. The mall experience is one of those unfortunate losses. An American tradition that future generations won't get to enjoy. I'm so glad you guys take the time to document places like these so they won't be forgotten. This video def. brings back memories for me. I had a lot of fun with this one. Thanks for this great video, Steve. 👍
I used to go to this mall all the time. My life is flashing before my eyes. I am so happy you documented this so I re-run the memories.
I'm quite sure I don't know everything there is to know about it... but I just hate to see what appears to be perfectly fine buildings like this demolished instead of repurposed. Empty malls have unlimited potential with a little imagination and the right investors. Sad.
No, that is the past, the new order is already here. Just start
This is also my childhood mall!! I live 2 minutes from it.. so sad that it had to be demolished so soon! Lots of memories from hanging out there as kids!
It’s demolished now? As of 1/10/23.
Malls would be perfect converted into condos…. I would choose one of the restaurants because that would make an awesome kitchen!! Keep the theater, a little grocery, gorgeous courtyard with lots of plants and cute reading space, parking lot converted into A park and shared community garden… Yeah I can see it!!
that sounds amazing, can u make it happen so i can join you? lol XD
That’s by far the best idea I’ve heard for converting these ever growing spaces
I heard that or converted into RUclipsrs offices
That would break reality. The community in that place would be crazy close together
only if its to house people that need housing. like homeless people .
Used to work there, can’t believe its gone; especially right after a remodel. Thanks for the great videos!
R.I.P Silver City Galleria so meny childhood memories there i remember the play area being bigger as a child there being arcade games lol it was so amazing in that mall.
thank you for makeing this video it let me remember such good memorys.
This is just so sad and nostalgic. Used to come here all the time as a little kid from like 2004-2008. I remember getting lost in the Disney store and loving the neon chairs in the food court! All of that is gone!
There’s a mall in my city in El Paso TX the mall called Sunland Park Mall there’s about couple of stores are open. You should come check it out when you have time to come down.
Man these abandoned malls always hit different, such weird vibes I'd love to check on out someday
So sad. Excellent footage guys. So eerie and sad farewell to malls everywhere.
The lady was so kind giving them free drinks
fortunately our main mall is doing well, it's at least like 90% occupied. another smaller one isn't as busy but still doing ok. The city moved some of it's services into it so that's driving a lot of new business to it
I really hope the malls in Utah don’t go extinct. I love them. They are a lot of fun and so cool.
You always make the most amazing videos Steve! Awesome job on this exploration!
I'm so surprised those stores are opened up for you to explore. So cool!
Woohoo more exciting adventures of gorgeous Steve ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I can't wait
Malls are a thing of the past!
Rent is way too high for mall stores to rent. Wake up people it's only going to get worse!
How ignorant to chop a Teddy Bears head off! People are discussting. You will answer for you're sins one day!
Opened in 1992 not 1922, that threw me off cuz i knew they didn’t have malls in the 20’s. Great video Steve!
This mall has so much memories. The last thing I watched at the movie theater was the BTS special with my daughter. I miss the old Asian lady that always offered samples. I miss taking my kids trick r treating here. This mall went downhill after that shooting.
When Steve’s history voice over is a word by word copyright from Wikipedia lol
That's my hometown mall!!! I moved from Middleboro to Florida in 2006. Last time I was at the Galleria Mall was probably 2003
Didn't get a notification, but love your videos. You're awesome. Keep exploring.
Just got my notification this morning
I'm from Brockton I used to chill at this mall in my late teens that's crazy I never knew they demolished it
That was an awesome video, such a shame that malls are closing down.
Went to the mall frequently growing up, that elevator has always been scary lol
I Gotta say! That piano in the video, sounds AMAZING! Hopefully you guys bring more of those HAPPY PIANO Soundtracks to these videos! Also I subbed! :)
Oh my Gosh!! Hi Steve, Josh, & Dann. I have missed the 2 of them. I wish I could be there. I cannot travel by air due to disabilities. So bummed. When I worked for Circuit City, some phones were active, but limited, while some were just dummy phones for display only. Buena Park Mall came close to shutting down, but it was somehow saved, with a Walmart, JC Penney, & multiple smaller chain stores. It's a very old mall. I was born in 59, and remember it as an open-air mall, until it was enclosed after I graduated high school. Huntington Center did shut down when the owner died. His widow took over, demolished the mall & rebuilt it into a pretty cool kind of, outdoor mall with popular restaurants and shops. Huntington beach California. I'm really enjoying you and Josh on those hoverboards. Lol. Hard not to lol at 5:30 in the morning and not wake up our son in the next room. Lol. The Westminister Mall is still open too. It's about the same size as this one. I love that mall. I really enjoyed this video. Still sad seeing this beautiful mall so empty. I miss shopping in malls, buying things off the racks, walking around with my bags of goodies.
Thank you for showing this. I worked there while I was in high school not too far from there. The restaurant that you were in it’s very sad seeing that because if you are from that area you know what happened in that restaurant and what happened in that mall
What happened?
Perfect song for background music would be Boys 2 Men Hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
This is so depressing watching these videos especially when they are no longer here to see anymore. Paradise Lost. 🥺😥
As a youngster I loved going to the malls and hanging out and meeting people. Socia Media has ruined a better time, a social time.
1956
The first mall in the U.S. was built in 1956, in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. It is known as Southdale Center Mall. It is the oldest climate controlled, fully enclosed mall in the U.S.Mar 4, 2019
Yea, there is a mall that shared a similar fate to this mall. But, it shutdown LONG before the pandemic, was a thing. Two stores remained open, before those eventually closed down, too! Landmark Mall. Just a sitting, dead mall. I miss it, tbqh. Spent a majority of my childhood, there. 😭
Hopefully some low budget films can come from these dead malls, the carparks from the window views are epic the long hallways are full of great memories something more than a bulldozer must happen from all these years and footprints, well something good must emerge from this whole panny. Stay safe yinz continue to be vigilant
I remember coming to this mall when I was younger with my grandmother and also the Round One place on the first floor that had bowling and an arcade
i grew up in this area and i still live in the city were the mall was. i went here all the time when i was little and i miss it so much!
My family mall was the Siler city galleria in taunton, Massachusetts. I live literally 20 min away in berkley my sisters best friend worked at jc penny. My dad used to do Halloween events there. I went to taunton high my sister went to Bristol Plymouth. I loved that mall I'm so so sad it closed . So many memories there. I'm sure u know and have the same feeling I went to berkley elementary me and my best friend Tony Gaffney went on the play over seas basketball and in the NBA. I lived and grew up on Seymour st in berkley if u know the mall I'm sure u know berkley. The ground round was one restaurant.if u walk the tracks in back u can go directly to my friends and grandmother's house in berkley. So crazy your there now
Malls like that one drive me a little crazy as I spent alot of time working in Sharpstown in Houston Texas and so did my beautiful mom, I also used to hang out at the Galleria there. 👻🕷️🎃🦉😻
Hi josh
I live in Toronto Canada there are still some bigger malls here still thriving even after the pandemic but some smaller ones are slowing down. And have many empty spaces they cannot rent also mall space is still to expensive for retailers
ThNks again for your videos l. Lisa
I'am so excited to see this abandoned mall. It still look so beautiful inside I like it a lot you must come in the night. With your friends to exsplore another video. I enjoy it so much great job🙇🙇👍
I grew up here it was our mall and the decline of it was heartbreaking and watching them demolish it was even harder to watch
It’s great to see you all together again and our mall went almost dead but turned into a large grocery store that serves alcohol bev while you shop!!!
Also organic nursery for vegetables.
Good Ol Montana and this mall is in Missoula. Rite here in the Pacific Northwest 😎✌️
Ps - I think your beverage limit is three
I live in Denver, Colorado, USA but there is a mall you should visit called the Greeley Mall in Greeley, Colorado. It went from a very busy mall with a Montgomery Ward and JCPenney’s and then went dead. It made a comeback but is still considered a dead mall.
My fiance and I went to the mall last weekend to go in a random store still there and it was so odd bare and quite I remember growing up the malls would be packed with so many things going on huge lines for pics with Santa, families shopping together for Christmas, going with friends on weekends to the arcade, movies & pizza place..etc there was a man sitting there as Santa out in the center of this huge bare mall with 1 child and it was actually so sad to me. I don't give it another yr before the whole building is abandoned like this one
This is wild... I remember working in this mall at Express. I moved from the area about 4 years ago so it's wild to see it abandoned. Sarku japan... chicken w/ white rice and vegetables.. I definitely remember going to see the first fast and the furious here. So many memories..
You guys are AMAZING!! Have you ever been to Kentucky to explore if not you should everyone knows about Waverly Hills... but anyways I love you guys keep doin what you do!!! ❤❤
I used to go to this mall about 8 years ago . I used to live in fall river. Wow kinda sad that's is gone.
yess!Love lang walang hate.from Philippines.GOD bless!!
Hello Steve Josh and the
Teams !👍💙❤️💙❤️
Our mall is still pumping here in New Zealand. However all the banks moved out last big-ish earthquake, and the movie theatre got ripped down due to be deemed unsafe. But the shops and food court are still open and they are rebuilding the cinema.
Love this you guys back together the greatest
I use to live close to that mall nice explore lots of memories
Taunton Mass... didn’t know the mall had closed .. crazy!
So sad to see this mall and many others as well, sitting empty. I despise the online shopping. I so enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the malls. I enjoyed people watching and so miss it. Christmas time was always a favorite time to go. All the decorations, all the people rushing around trying to get their shopping finished. Its sad all the way around, seems theres no interaction between people anymore. It everyone behind a computer screen, pretending to be someone else. Thank you Steve, for sharing this. Yet another piece of the great American way, gone. Enjoy your time with Josh and Dan. Safe travels.
For real, This is what I watch on your Facebook channel lately 😂😂😂
Hi Steve,
Love watching this video...
And glad you're both together
I love the fire place,
Beautiful...
Take Care,Stay Safe & Healthy for you, Steve 🌹
Lloyd Center Mall is also the Worst, we still got at least 50 Stores Left inside, I thought the Mall is going to get Demolished & now we found out we got New Owners to Save the Mall. It used to be the Largest in the State & Country Ever. It opened since August 1st 1960.
My local mall died years ago but the bigger one nearby is still going strong. It has lost several stores due to Covid but is still able to thrive so far.
Glad to see you guys together again
Here in Fresno, California our 3 Malls are all busting at the seams and the big one called Fashion Faire has grown, now that Covid has chilled its back to business and is full of people daily.
The play area was themed around a beaver named bucky if I am remembering correctly so the play structures were shaped as logs and tree trunks :) my dad and I sat watching this and remembering which stores were what just by the exteriors. Good trip down memory lane. Was just there before they finally closed down so I didnt know they had closed 😂🙃
I would of never gone in that elevator!!!!!!! Haha. Great explore Steve!
This was one of my favorite malls 💔
Abandon malls and hotels are my favorite videos you do !! I hope you get to do Colorado Belle in Nevada!! If anyone has explored it yet and someone knows LMK ❤️
Ahh I miss that mall so many good high school memories and som bad too lol
Should of brought your roller skates. What blast that would been too.👍🙋🏻
Lol I hated the elevator even when it was open 🤣
Y’all made me nervous with the rails!
I love all of the videos that y'all do grate work on making them
Crossroads mall in Omaha Nebraska, there’s still a Target at the end of the area(nothing else left in mall!
Great footage, but I have to say I think the impact of COVID on this mall is a bit overstated. This mall was DEAD and plans to close it came long before the lockdowns and the writing was on the wall. I went to this mall myself in early February of 2020, pre-lockdowns and pre-anyone wearing a mask and the writing was on the wall. Everyone was either closed or in the process of closing. If there was no COVID the only thing left today would be Dicks and the Cinema who were on separate contracts and Dick's owned their portion of the site. Similar situation with Round 1.
Covid only made sure the movie theater and the pretty much separately operating arcade weren't going to stick around to live on inside a dead mall.
The mall in my area probably almost shut down to the same fate as this one. They took out a bunch of stores, but were able to renovate and it didn't. I guess they realized they were not making money and that was their attempt to fix it.
Nice to see you and Josh together again watched you to from the start
Enjoyed this tremendously.. It is sad though... Thanks Steve...
Hardly anything modern is sader than a dying/ dead shopping mall… all those memories.
Just to let you know there is several malls in Phoenix Metropolitian, including Metrocenter the first 2 story mall in America. Only Arizona Mills, an outlet mall is trying to hang on, but stores inside are closing one by one.
Nice mall it was. I really loved the fire place and the flooring. Sad it got demolished.
Pretty soon southridge mall here in Wisconsin will be a thing of the past lots of stores are closing, north ridge mall has been closed forever
I can't believe you did the small I remember going there when I was a kid as well didn't know that you are from Massachusetts
did you get photo of it when it was demolished? that might be cool to see.
Funny how hollister is actually creepy without the clothes🤣
You guys do really good work, you should make a video of a real working Mall before they become obsolete.
Live in fall river Massachusetts miss this mall many memories
Its very very sad 💔💔 knowing every mall in USA closed and majority closing
We Got Midway Mall in Elyria you should make a video
Great video, so sad to see all the malls jus disappearing away..
Global mall in Nashville shut down in 2019 set for demolition but the abandoned mall is still there
Would go there as a kid with my parents still when it was open in 2019 I would Go love seeing u and josh in videos I live like 15 minutes from there
This does make me sad because my entire family remembers so City galleria especially my 6-year-old we bought him and we were able to bring him once and he had a f****** blast not like it was when me and my wife were kids but it does make me a little sad this is all modern and current I know people that worked there before I close too it's a big piece of Massachusetts right here
Independence Missouri has a mall and still pretty full!
Omg the scariest elevator ride ever!! 😩😂
A local teacher was murdered there when it was still open a few years ago that's another reason they shut down
I live in N.W. Michigan. We have a decent mall in Traverse City. Decent food court. Recently lost Taco Bell from it though. Has Target, JC Penney and a sporting goods store. V.S., American Eagle, Bed Bath and Beyond, Spencer Gifts....
I want to open my own mall but with like my own stores that would be different foods from around the world so like I'll have a store dedicated to stuff Canada produce locally and one that Americans produce locally. I think it would be really cool and honestly the first of it's kind.
Like that idea
In Washington State, for every 6 stores in the mall 4 are closed down. It’s very sad to see. I have never been a shopping type of girl, but l definitely used it once a year or so.
