I had done several enroute support trips to Germany for the 315th AW during my time in AFRES and while stationed at Charleston AFB (JB Charleston). I went to Rhein Main in 1987, 88, 89, and 2000. I was deployed to Rhein Main while activated in the summer of 2005 for 3.5 months, just before the base closed. I went to Ramstein in 1992, 93, 95, 97, and 2001 (before 9/11). I shot this video in 1997 while on that trip. If you knew everyone in the video, you probably knew Lee Forker. I believe he was there at the time. I retired from AFRES in Jan 2008. In 2013 my wife and I were going to take a vacation to Panama City, FL and New Orleans LA. While on active duty I was stationed at Tyndall AFB in 1981/82 and worked in the engine shop there. I wanted to arrange a tour of the engine shop and see what it looked like in 2013 (doing F-119 engines for the F-22 aircraft as opposed to three different types of J-57s, J-75s, J-33s, and helicopter engines that were being done there in the early 1980s. The person who gave us the tour back in May 2013 was MSgt. Lee Forker. If you are looking for him, he's on my friends list. Also, I shot some video in the engine shop in 2013. I'll post the link here. I'll also post the link to the video I shot at Rhein Main in the summer of 2005. They are standard Def videos. I didn't start shooting high def videos until 2012. The video of Tyndall in res 1080. however.
the overall layout of the base looks the same, but they replaced a lot of those intersections with roundabouts! most of those dormitories have long since been demolished and rebuilt, and of course the old BX is no longer there. the overpass near east gate is gone and was replaced with a huge roundabout
I was there working on the flightline from 77-80. We lived in off-base housing in K-town near the Massa Mart. I still remember these 2 older German ladies had a schnitzel stand right outside the MAC gate which was to die for! I would like to go back just for that... I still have my coffee mug from there and about 50 beer glasses and steins. We worked our ass off with the F-4s but wouldn't trade those years there for anything!!
I wish I could've seen where i lived back from 1959-61. I was a kid but I remember what a great place it was. We lived at 1211 c-4. Back then it was officers and family quarters.

Wow...I was stationed there from 1984 to 1988. I don't even recognize this place now. Makes me sad...but change happens. Thanks for posting
