    Thanks very much for doing these Ramstein drives. I was a newlywed there in 74. I recognize nothing. Off base looks nearly the same. You mentioned names of buildings we haven’t thought of in 50 years. Really enjoyed it.

    I see the POV have euro style tags which make more sense when I was stationed there 80/83 (Pruem AFS) the cars had usa style tags in a green color which made us stand out ,which in hindsight not a good idea . we had at the time local german terror groups Bider Mein Half (pardon my spelling) blowing stuff up .got to be a habit to look under ones car seat to see if someone slipped in a small fire extender filled with stuff that would have blown you through the roof when you sat down ,fun times. I think it was at Ramstein that they parked a small motor home in from of HQs was two protain tanks filled with explosives in it one went off the other was tossed in the building ,was in stars and stripes a photo showing a hole in the building where it went through and another of two SPs carrying it out ,only thing was they didn't know it was filled with explosives was their lucky day

      @@luckytyan6011 Well, comparing a car factory with a military base is a bit of a stretch. One payed for the small land they own and produces goods for the market and the other one is there because we lost the second world war and... well... that's basically it. If we were soverign as a country, this whole Ramstein ordeal shouldn't be a thing. This is just a daily reminder that we are still kneeling down to our overlord in the US, whilst every other military left decades ago.

      Well, if you look at it that way. I only meant limited access to the public.

    • @Fuerwahrhalunke
      @Fuerwahrhalunke 6 месяцев назад

      @@luckytyan6011 History is apparently not done when the US is still on our soil. The new generation doesn't think for itself, it thinks what it's told to think about by social media and the media in general. That's why nobody is questioning it. Until the past is resolved there is no moving on. There is just new information stacked on top of each other until it's so clustered that nobody has the will to dig deep enough. That's already happening. Trying to prepare for the future as much as I for one can though.
      Thing is, as long as you never lived through the live a German lives through, you won't understand to have this cloud over your head that prevents the whole nation from moving on. To this day our past is haunting us as a people and rather than questioning it to resolve it, most just live with it and let it dictate the way they vote and treat politics overall. Trapped in a spiral, so to say.

      Yes. American military personnel and Federal government employees assigned to Germany get to have 1 vehicle shipped from the US to Europe at the government's expense--just like household goods. You can also purchase US-spec automobiles--either brand new or used--at various car dealerships or lots on base. Source: I was stationed at Ramstein for 3 years. Then returned to Germany as a DoD civilian employee for another 5 years several years later. As a matter of fact, all the vehicles going to/returning from Germany get processed through the port in Baltimore.

    Doch, als Deutscher kann man die Gegend sehr wohl legal besichtigen, z.B. in mehr als 1200 m NN oberhalb der Kontrollzone beim Überlandfluh im Segelflugzeug. Und Samstagnachmittag hielten sich die fliegerische Aktivitäten in Grenzen. Bei der Thermik dachte ich an BBQ als mögliche Ursache. Aber einmal landete eine 747 der Kalitta Air unter mir dort und in den Fernsehnachrichten sah ich sie auch auf dem Kiever Flughafen Tage vor Kriegsausbruch beim Entladen von manpads. Dann fand ich die Webseite von Kalitta Air mit der Stellenanzeige "Piloten gesucht. Hinter dem Cockpit ist ein Schlafraum. Sie dürfen auch Ihren Hund mitnehmen" und dachte: Unten werden Waffen entladen und oben schläft der Pilot mit seinem Hund.

      @@luckytyan6011 hy lucky .I told, that I was flying with my Sailpläne in legal altitudes above the Control Zone and naturally could See a lot from distance there . One time a Boeing 747 from Calitta Air flew below me and in TV I one time Just before beginning of Ukraine war I saw such B747 on Kyiv Airport Delivering weapons. And on Website of Calitta Air they searched pilots with the remark: you can Take with you your pet and behind Cockpit there ist place For a sleeping rooms. So I imagined, that perhaps the Pilot and His dog we're sleeping above while the weaponry we're unloaded below.
