My thoughts exactly. I saw that deranged, vacant Jon Bernthal face pop up in my feed and I'm like whatever this is it's gonna be good. He don't play. Also, my ability to recognize Baltimore in a split second scares me sometimes; I'm familiar with this (true) story of police corruption to the highest to degree and it is WILD!

I love seeing so many old faces from The Wire in here. Even if the story lines don't play off of each other directly you can see plenty of references and nods to it's predecessor and I love.

The setting and the cast is enough.
Check out The Corner. Came out before The Wire. Based on a true story but tons of actors from the wire and feels like part of the same universe.
@@Slavicinferno Oh I'm hip. DeAndre McCullough was actually Brother Mouzone's right hand man in The Wire. Him and his father were the one's the show was based on. Great show.
Marlo as a cop is intriguing to me.
Jon Bernthal plays the most grittiest toughest hard core characters in movies but he's like the most down to earth sweetest guy in real life gotta love it.
I met him several years ago and he was legitimately the nicest guy.
He almost killed a guy.
His character in Fury was brutal, he played that so well.

The young black cop who talks about being put in with the bad cops also from The Wire. There are about a dozen cast members from The Wire in this. And Ed Burns.
His been playing a cop in Boshe for like 6 seasons mate. His more of a cop then a gangster lol watch Bosh, i highly recommend it!

David Simone back in Baltimore, so many familiar faces and now with Jon Bernthal, I'm jumping in.
This is the crossover i always wanted. The Wire meets the Shield.
I'd love some prison story as well. It's a great environment for social commentary, and fascinating as well.

Another great show on HBO that unfortunately came and went without much publicity is Tokyo Vice. Just one season and I have no idea if they plan on doing another, but it was fantastic.
Finally a true follow up to The Wire. Absolutely spectacular and jaw-dropping, especially considering that this is a true story. Jon, Wunmi and Dagmara absolutely stealing with their performances as well. We want more Simon and Pellecanos!

Really? The dialogue, especially the slang and accents, is very familiar, but the pacing is very different and more stylized with the time jumps. The editing and lighting also strikes me as more cinematic compared to the gritty realism of the wire. Just my 2 cents
This show is nothing like The Wire. Everything about seems forced. The Wire had a smooth natural flow that captured the streets. This show lacks all of the charm and character of The Wire.

I don't think we should look at it like that. This seems to be focusing more on police brutality part. We will for sure get what we saw in the Wire regarding things that contribute to these problems. "Put dope on the table, be tough on crime, be out in them streets" mentality caused by politics and beurocrats.

This is based on a book by Justin Fenton, who like David Simon, was a Baltimore Sun cops and courts reporter for years. It's cut from the same fabric in part by the same people, should really be top notch.

I was living in Winchester St. in Baltimore when all this went down, and was living in Park Heights when Sean Suiter committed suicide. This series is only 6 episodes, but I swear it can easily go two seasons with 10 + episodes each.

I recently rewatched the mini-series and it's even better the second time around. Now what I would like to see David Simon do if he can, is the same style as this but about the Seven Five Precinct.
I gotta say as someone who grew up in MD, Bernthals balmore accent is sounding good.
I can’t wait for the mini-series that’s honest about crime in Baltimore! I’m sure it will be created by reporters, writers and entertainment execs eager to discuss crime trends, who the victims are, who the perpetrators are, and what needs to be done to reverse it.

Looking back to daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke cage, iron fist and punisher, to me, my eyes are always set on the punisher. He doesn't need the super abilities, but he'll make sure you face the his wrath. Among the marvel shows, he was the best watch.

Oh man I just saw the promo for this. Jon Bernthal is the PERFECT person to cast as a lead actor in this kind of show. I saw him for the first time on The Walking Dead and thought he was great . I haven't watched The Punisher yet but plan to watch it as some point. I miss The Wire a lot so if this series is even half as good it should be a hit.

Bravo HBO for taking the Wire and moving on to an even bigger story. This city is raw and dangerous but the people are real and the city has its beauty and lots of it. You just have to find it. I’ve lived here a 1/3 of my life and I just don’t see me leaving.

As the show is obviously about black people vs police, can you tell me if the show is a BLM love letter or it shows both sides equally? I love series like the Wire, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, but I hate that almost all shows on HBO, Netflix, Amazon and other platforms are written to cather to "left" audience, to the levels that makes me don't want to watch it, because of the sick agenda.
@@icyman2 it follows the true story of what happened within the Baltimore police department years ago around the Freddie Gray incident. It's grounded in reality, and so naturally it has both bad and good characters on all sides that actually existed. Judging by your comment it might be good for you to watch it
