  • Hi guys, a couple of errors I made.
    1. The aperture range is f1.4 to f16, not f1.4 to f 1.6.
    2. I missed pointing out the rewind button on the base.
    I must be getting old, hang on, I am old
    Cheers

    Hi Howard, great review. Never understood how Minolta wasn't more successful, they were always at the cutting edge of camera technology.

      Hi Andrew, I couldn't agree more. They made some fabulous cameras
      but were somehow always seen as being a second tier company.

      Odd you should say "successful". Maybe you mean why did they not survive? In the '60s, '70s and '80s they were certainly one of the biggest camera companies.

    Good morning Howard. Always a pleasure to see your posts when I wake up. How do you like using this camera, compared to other SLR cameras you have?

    • @howpow
      @howpow  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Brian. Probably the main thing is that we still both wake up every morning. A real plus. 😃
      As far as the SLRs are concerned I would rate most of mine fairly similar in use, but if forced to choose I would have to choose my Olympus OM 1n.

      Always the comedian, you are. LOL That is the real plus. I had an OM 1. Fantastic camera, except that flash mount. Gave it to a friends daughter for her first film camera. Glad you are still upright and mobile. Summer is coming, have you any plans?

    Hello Howard good to hear from you, ive got a Minolta SRT 303 tucked away somewhere with a 50mm f/1.7 and leather case a very solid camera unfortunately i haven't run any film through it as the shutter sticks and the wind on squeels so it'll be off for servicing at some point!

    • @howpow
      @howpow  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi, if you can get it serviced for a reasonable cost it's certainly worth doing in my opinion. The 303 was a very good Camera.

    • @jamesal6138
      @jamesal6138 3 месяца назад

      @howpow I didn't spend very much on it so it'll get serviced regardless, I have a camera servicing fund I chuck a little bit of what I have left at the end of the month into. Won't be sending any out for a while as I've just had a rather expensive repair which had to go back for further fixing...

      @howpow I wouldn't go that far, however I am passionate about what I do and I love getting these old workhorses back to work. The aforementioned repair is the first Konica Auto-Reflex the switchable full and half frame one. It's an odd bird.

      @@jamesal6138 Hi James. I have a Konica Autoreflex T which is a really nice camera. I wasn't aware of your model's dual format.

    Probably the biggest design drawback is not the non-slotted battery cover as they work fine with a pressed thumb and requires no 'tool' or coin, but the location of the on/off switch on the bottom plate. Everyone who has owned this model has probably forgotten to switch the light meter off at some point and run the battery down (which you can't get any more as it's a mercury 1.35 volt PX-625). The switch is very much out of sight out of mind.

      Looks like I attached the wrong answer to the wrong comment, anyhow thanks for the detailed information about Minolta and especially the name. I didn't know where the name Minolta came from, very interesting.

    I did think there was something wrong with the aperture range figures, but was too polite to say so.

    I thought the SRT-102 was an American model designation? The SRT-303 was the deluxe model which featured full information in the viewfinder (Focus, shutter speed and aperture) and the SRT-101 & SRT-101b did not show the aperture in the viewfinder. Did you know the origin of the name "Minolta"? It means; Mechanisms, INstruments, Optics, Lenses by TAshima. (M, IN, O, L, TA). The founder of Minolta was
    Kazuo TASHIMA, in 1928.

      Hi Domenic. You're right, the on/off/bc switch is not in the ideal position . It's a great idea but needed to better positioned.

    I have the same camera but needed to clean up the viewfinder from the inside so i took the top part off. After reinstalling everything the film advance lever is a bit loose (but can still be operated it just doesnt lock itself in place). Do you know what could be the issue? I built it like it was before.

    • @howpow
      @howpow  2 месяца назад

      Hi musicianluca. All I can suggest is that the reassembly sequence is incorrect assuming all the original parts went back in.
      I'm going away for about a week, but when I get back I'll dissemble the wind knob and get back to you with the sequence.
      Cheers, Howard

      Hi. I took my advance lever apart. I took a photo showing the assembly sequence but I don't seem to be able to attach it. Anyhow Lever goes on first then plain washer then spring washer and finally screw down collar. Make sure that the washers are centred properly so that the collar can screw down all the way
      Good luck
