  • Here are my tegus (mostly just the male, Jaime) and my attempt at taming them. I used monitor taming techniques, along with some tips I discovered after watching some videos from members of NERD (New England Reptile Distributors) which seemed to work great with my tegus. At this point, I've never been bitten. Can't speak for the future though! ::nervous laughter::

Hey thanks everyone. Never thought I'd see the video get so close to 10k views.

I've never had the pleasure. I imagine these techniques could work, but I'd be extra careful if they're biters. The guys in this video are captive bred and were pretty tame the day I got them. I'd take extra safety precautions (heavy-duty gloves for instance) with any wild-caught animals. You'll also want to get them treated for parasites, diseases, etc.

Hey I am thinking about getting a tegu or caiman lizard which is better and less likely to eat me in my sleep or bite me

They're both amazing animals, but tegus husbandry requirements are far easier to maintain than a caiman lizard. They're also much sturdier animals, as caiman lizards are very susceptible to bacteria.
