the tail is damaged didnt fall off "yet" and when it grows back it will be most likely all black without bone , try not to tug tail or squeeze end could possibly get better

don't pick them up by the tail, obviously. And the description says "I'm going to start looking for my next pet" GREAT.

The Pure Excitement makes me want a lizard. But i'm scared of reptiles. This was a great informative video.

So many things wrong with this… others watching pls don’t unbox an animal in a car with door open. The tegu did everything right and that’s why this video didn’t end badly.

By my count that’s one thing, but yes I agree that unboxings should not be done with car doors open. Only reason I did it is because the tegu was very calm and I was too excited I could not help myself haha

If your first instinct when unboxing a lizard is to fling open a car door and then grab the animal by its tail, you’re probably better off admiring them from afar. I’m glad the video cuts out after this because I feel like had this video continued we would have seen a lizard fed a Snickers bar and then tossed into his new forever home-not an 8x4x4 with spot-on humidity, plenty of enriching decor, and perfect basking temperatures but a too-small fish tank with a singular twig that he’ll barely be able to turn around in as an adult. The sad truth is that so many individuals attracted to large reptiles like tegus, 10-foot snakes, and monitors simply want the “wow” factor (an animal that will impress their friends). They sink all their money into the reptile that makes them feel like the badass of the neighborhood and their care is often an afterthought. Rarely do you see these animals in an appropriately sized enclosure with all the things they need to be happy in captivity. Tegus make amazing pets for the select few that are willing to give their intelligent brains the stimulation and attention they require for mental wellbeing and spare no expense to give them the enclosure and diet they deserve. And given how many cringe-worthy moments this short video contained (the one where he talks about getting more animals is definitely tough to swallow) it’s probably best that it ended here. Avoiding grabbing a tegu by its tail is such a basic Reptiles 101 concept and hints that virtually no research went into this animal. And it’s concerning because when you post a video that might be seen by aspiring tegu owners that are also doing virtually no research themself and just want to watch fun animal unboxing videos, they’ll see you grab this baby tegu by its tail and think this is a normal way to interact with your lizard. In addition to causing pain/stress/discomfort, tegus can lose their tails and the regeneration process can be rough. I want you and anyone else interested in tegus to have a relationship with your animal that’s mutually beneficial because when one of these mini dinosaurs puts all of its trust in you there’s no better feeling in the world. Treat them gently and they’ll truly grow up to be gentle giants. But if your interactions are stressful or painful for the animal, this can greatly affect the tegu’s behavior as an adult. And sometimes a tegu’s tail is a direct reflection of the owner’s behavior. I once saw an adult tegu whose regenerated tail looked like a zombie’s leg. Wanna take a guess at how the tegu’s tail became detached?
