- So you have $200 and want to get the most "bang for your buck"? I thought many of you may be in this boat, so I was surfing Amazon and came across two amps that offered very similar ratings for almost the same price. The Soundstream AR1.8000D and Orion Ztreet ZO8000.1D. Both amps promise "8000 Watts MAX" and offer a more conservative 2000 watts RMS power at 1 ohm, 14.4 volts. Since both were about the same price and nearly identical specs, I figured I could buy both and try them on the Amp Dyno setup in a Drag Race style test! Are you ready to rumble??

I love the dynos on the budget amps. Even though some of them don't make rated power you can find some great wattage for the price. And oh my how the mighty have fallen over the years. Shame on Orion.
Mother Porkers BBQ it's Orion entry level amps. Check out Big DWiz dyno on the Orion XTR 2500.1D
Yeah Orion is actually putting out really good products currently, however they do have lower tiered gear and this is one of them. Get the hcca or XTR.
Then they should rate the entry level amps accordingly based on what kind of power they make. That's Boss and Pyle type B.S. ratings right there.

MSH68 I got the xtr 2500.1 and the birth sheet is 2948 at 12.4 volts at 1 ohm. It sounds amazing and it only cost me 350

+Gomez561 only issue with taking stuff from Mfg’s is they may “hop up” an amp so it will do well. This is why I like to buy them, as you guys would. I’ll eventually be able to buy more expensive amps to test 🤙

Wow 1000K amp for 200$ I'm 34 when I was 16 1000 watts would have cost over 1000$
True people laugh at these amps but 1900 watts rms for 180 that's a deal
I bought a Rockford 150a2 around 98-99' and paid almost $300 for it. Of course it did well over rated power
Bruh the c.a.d amp is like 300 bucks and does like 3500k rms there's some serious. Budget power lately

In Canada, the Orion is selling for over $600 shipped on Amazon.ca and the Soundstream can be had for $250 on eBay.ca.
I really appreciate these tests as they can save people hundreds of dollars.
I'm glad you tested these 2 amps big D !! I was thinking the Orion was going to smoke the Soundstream based on the orion xtr results but it seams they went real cheep on these z street amps !

This is awesome. Thank you for this review. I was looking at both of these amps to run my system of 3 Kicker Solo-Baric L7 15"s, guess that settles which amp I'm going with. And Soundstream is cheaper, so I may pick up 2 of them.

Thanks for this! You help me make a good decision. I traded my well working Kenwood for this SS. Love it! (Neighbors hate it). No problems within my 2 year ownership. Shut off once understandably for a couple of seconds when one of my sub coils unraveled, but kick back in and still is showing off.

Hello. I can not find, i still can't. Can you please do a benchmark using different gauge cable to an amplifier? measuring the loss of rms from around 5m of 14,12,10,8,4 cables from amplifier to the subwoofer.

The Soundstream AR1.8000D has the exact inputs and outputs adjustments/terminals as the Power Acoustik CB1-8000D. Are these amps identical on the inside?
Can you post the type of distro blocks you have in the video. I stripped my 5.7 MAGNUM to the metal for a custom rat rod/hot rod look and the dash panel I am building uses only metal--and cap screws (like the ones on the distribution blocks [they would match the new interior perfectly]).
My cuz has the soundstream. I dont like how long it is. But it does push bis RF P3s pretty good

That Soundstream is using the exact same board as the CAB 1600.1 with a few slight modifications to the center caps, and half of them. They put out similar numbers, but I think the CAB is probably using a little better components. Thanks so much for this test and gut shot!!!!!!!!!! You da best!
Edit - they are the same measurements with similar end caps, definitely made in the same building imo. But then against, most amps today are.

hunter callahan I got a Cab pushing 2 sa12s and it sounds good. I'm about to get another cab amp and run one on each sub. If you got the electrical to feed it they will surprise you.

The power acoustik cab-8000d looks to be identical to the soundstream ar-8000.1d. Can anyone verify this for me? I just ordered the CAB-8000D.
My truck came with a pair of soundstream amps and I’m wondering if they are worth keeping. I think they are t4. The long, light gray, with the backlit logo style. Did you ever do a test on that generation?

Hey BigDWiz, think you can test one of the new autotek super sport amps. Doesn't matter which one just want to see if any of them do close to rated.
Thank you for the awesome reviews, love the channel. However what about other specs like damping factor, IMD, etc? I'm always curious as these do translate into SQ. I'd personally love to buy a 200 dollar amp but something tells me it won't sound as as good?
+Tarek Z SQ is subjective and not relatable to any particular spec...but something to be discussed in an upcoming video. Probably when I interview a few amp designers so the can give me their answers to this question. Numbers are easy to obtain and compare objectively. This is the main reason why I focus on them for now

Thank you so much. I bought the Soundstream a few months ago and I'm running 2 Dayton Ultimax 10's wired to 2 ohms. I was wondering how much power it really made, because it all slams under the back seat of a crew cab GMC Sierra Denali. It's nice to know that if I get 2 more 10's it will put out the power to keep them happy.

Always great to see the guts of amps. Would be interesting if you can point out how many mosfets are in the finals, you will then have a fair idea how powerful an amp is. Looking at these amps, the Soundstream has 12 and the Orion has 8. Seems like the Soundstream has the TO220 type mosfets and the Orion probably TO3P's, not very clear on the video. But for certain you can tell the differences in power by just looking at how many mosfets are in the finals (output stage) of an amp. Always luv wathing amp dyno's, thanks for your great videos 👍

I am now a Rockford Fosgate fan.
+P.Formula Powers most of the brands we know from back then have changed. But we also paid big bucks for low wattage amps back then. Hard to compare.

Soundstream has it going on. Back in the day, their car amps were 1/4 ohm stable. That’s when car audio was really legit. Class A and A/B were then and still now the best sounding car amps made. I know there are some other great amp manufacturers, but I still like this company. Consistently good all the time!

Big D Wiz. Can you please do a drag race of the soundstream ar-8000.1d and the power acoustic cb1-8000d. They look to be the same exact amp and I would like to see how they compare on the dyno. This has been a debate on the audio pages. Clear this up for us please. Gut shots of both amps side by side would be awesome.

I guess. The amp still didn't make rated as should be promised. I like the old days in a way. My front stage amp is rated 25x4 into 4 ohms, yet benches about 4 times that. I wish more companies would rate products like that.

Please do a dyno run on the Orion Ztreet 6000.5. Specifically the sub channel rated 900 RMS @ 1 Ohm. Perhaps on a budget 5 channel amp segment.

Hey big D. How's goes brother i just started in car audio. Could you do a bench on a boss onyx 5500 class d amp. I run that right now with 2 power acoustic gothic 12s dual voice coil at 2ohms. I would like to see how you wire it and if there's any way to get more out of the amp. If it's a good amp I want to get another one and add 2 more subs.
