Isn't it ironic how these kids supposedly have telepathic powers... And in the cast for IT: Chapter Two James McAvoy... Literally Professor X... is playing Bill...
@@ghoulishgam3r508 It's ironic if McAvoy was hired for his acting talent and not the fact he played a crippled psychic and will be portraying another psychic character.
@@ghoulishgam3r508 Have you ever heard of dramatic irony? It's a literary technique demonstrated by expressing a scenario in such a way that the audience is made aware of it but the characters are left none the wiser, often to comedic effect as a result of some form of tonal dissonance creating a contradiction of expectation; Red Riding Hood going to see her grandmother after the audience has been told that the wolf has already eaten her and is lying in ambush for the young girl would be an example of dramatic irony, as would be the concept of a character jinxing themselves by speaking a negative outcome aloud, only for it to become reality shortly thereafter. The application of this literary concept to real life has lead to coincidence being associated with irony for _hundreds of years_ as the concept of hindsight or a more knowledgeable party takes the role usually played by the limited omniscient audience of a story, thus bypassing the usual technical restriction on what constitutes irony. Case in point, one definition of irony is "a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result." In this case, if someone did not associate McAvoy with his role as Professor X, then the resulting revelation that he is playing another psychic character in It would constitute as irony. So what were you saying about looking up how the definitions of irony and coincidence do not intersect like a graph?
Could this also connect carrie as the only shiner that turns evil? Cause she is abused and has telekinetic powers, even though the shine is telepathic powers. Maybe the evil shine takes a more PHYSICAL approach of mental powers.
Yes actually, in "The Dark Tower" it confirms that Carrie is Shinning but its thrown out of control due to the amount of mental strain put on her by almost everyone around her
I almost made a sarcastic, sorta rude joke here about misspelling his name, but that seemed unnecessary - it could very well have been an autocorrect mishap or just an honest misremembering, and no one really deserves being roasted over that. So just to let you know, his name is Stephen King.
You know, it has been definitely confirmed that like, 99% of Stephen King's books have been tied to the Dark Tower. In fact, IT is actually one of the demons that watches over the Tower. Pennywise the Dancing Clown isn't even his true form, just another shapeshift.
Mocha Tapioca if everyone is saying you’ll float too, than who is floating first? I say this because I haven’t watched the movies nor read any of the books...is that a bad thing? Also to be funny, that’s another reason.
With all this in mind, it seems plausible that Carrie also has the shining, the strongest shine seen so far in the Stephen King connected universe. Let's go over the evidence: Shining = telepathy with a cooler name Carrie has telepathic abilities MatPat pointed out that all characters with the shining (Danny, Halloran, the losers club) suffered abuse as a kid. Carrie absolutely fits this standard. The shining varies in strength from person to person. It seems possible that after a certain point, the power goes past telepathic abilities and extends to telekinesis, if it's strong enough. Stephen King probably didn't forget about Carrie when he came up with the idea of the shining
The Turtle barfed out the universe, (I'm pretty sure) so it makes sense that it can defeat a being such as Pennywise. The Turtle is extremely large as well, but that doesn't really matter since It can shapeshift. Also, is anyone mad that MatPat didn't talk about The Dark Tower once?
⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️ 12:34 To add a bit more evidence for IT being the evil in the shining, in the Shining book on page 606 when Wendy is convinced that the hotel has “taken full control” of Jack, she says “it panted at her through its grin.” And it happens again on page 619, when Danny is talking to Tony about his dad, “‘But you can’t stay long. Because it’s coming’ ‘It…’” and again on the same page “…but it wasn’t Daddy. He knew that now” Stephen King is making it clear that there is a difference between Jack and the evil that’s “controlling” him. The final strongest quote on the same page, when Danny is referring to the evil in the hotel, “Force, presence, shape, they were all only words and none of them mattered. It wore many masks, but it was all one. Now, somewhere, it was coming for him. It was hiding behind Daddy’s face, it was imitating Daddy’s voice, it was wearing Daddy’s clothes. But it was not his daddy.” In the IT movie, it is shown that pennywise can shape-shift into love ones but the characters in the movie realize that it’s not their loved ones just IT appearing like them. Now these quotes are missing IT written in all caps, I just thought I was something interesting to mention
Pennywise being involved with Carrie actually doesn’t make sense since, according to this theory, Carrie was most certainly abused, which means she has the shine
If you read the dark tower series by stephen king it basically confirms this theory and the point about carrie having the shine. Hers just got out of control due to her circumstances.
@@munozperez2202 Or he could be another form of IT himself given that he seems to be a bigger threat when the kids are trying to fight against it, and that he draws fear from them.
"Oh, we all theorize down here. Yes, we do! And when you're down here. You'll theorize too!" I'm sorry, my brain is too dumb to even think of something intelligent.
This is one my favorite theories out there! I actually recall reading a theory along these lines a long time ago, but it just really connects things and makes a good deal of sense
Its Feb 2024 and ever since MatPat announced his retirement, I've been binge watching all old episodes especially the ones that still use the into theme song. We will miss you MatPat!
Most people overlook the fact that Richie had a key part in killing IT. They say it was all Bill, completely forgetting that Richie saved his life. I think Bill and Richie have some kind of power that is stronger than the others, especially Bill, since they were the ones that defeated IT. They were the ones that could travel into the macroverse and participate in the Ritual of Chüd.
I was waiting for someone to point this out, in the story the shining is very much used and the idea of going to different worlds using the shine just supports this theory even more.
Not a bad theory and there's certainly merit to the connections that you made, but you kinda ignore the part where It makes it clear that the more terrified the victim, the better the meal the victim provides. It feeds primarily off of fear, the physical body is just desert. The entire story is about facing one's fears and overcoming them, that's why It is powerless when the group shows no fear when confronting It.
That's a good point, but Ben, and Eddie both encounter IT on their own, in the books too, and they get away and they're definitely afraid. I like the Shine idea.
It's downfall is that it likes playing with his food too much. It could have easily offed the kids one by one on each time one of them encounters It, but that wouldn't provide him with much of a meal. So he teases and terrifies them, getting little tastes of their fear before he goes in for the kill. It's a bit of a cat'n'mouse game. Like I said, the Shine theory certainly does have it's merits so I wasn't trying to shoot it out of the sky...but again: It actually does specify that it prefers its meals as terrified as possible. If the kids are all a bunch of Shiners, I'd imagine an extradimensional being such as It would be clued into this...or at the very least know that there's "something" preventing him from killing them. Considering his a predator, he'd move on to other prey if there was some cosmological force that prevented him killing the kids. Quite simply: It dragged the game out for too long, allowing the fear to become anger which fueled the courage of the kids. They were no longer afraid of It, but rather pissed off and out for vengeance. This change happens when they realize that Its primary goal was to scare them, because their fear was what gave It strength. Get rid of that fear and you get rid of Its power.
Not being afraid wouldn't give the kids the ability to psychically communicate or send power to Mike. After all it isn't untill the very end of the movie where they learn not being afraid helps, all the other time were *seemingly* luck
the stephen king universe is all tied together...the shining...cujo...salem's lot ..carrie...haven....the shining...it....the new tv series castle rock....the langoliers...the tommyknockers....etc.....all part of a bigger plan...read the dark tower series....
@@ghoulishgam3r508 Writing himself into the books is part of it. Several times throughout that series our world, as in the one you exist in, is shown to be the Keystone or prime world. Much like the Wizard Glass Black 13 being stored in the basement of the Trade towers. While the other worlds are mutable and not entirely chronological our world is. What happens in our world can't be changed. It's why the Rose is so important, it's the physical manifestation of the tower in our world. But I get off track, the section that King wrote himself into is short and is meant to draw that connection very strongly..
I find it amazing that Mat used the picture of Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy) to represent Bill in the future when James McAvoy actually plays Bill in It chapter II.
So I'm not going to defend the prepubescent sex scene, if anything it's worse than Matpat describes it, but I will point out the reason it's there. The themes at the core of IT are about the differences in what scares us as kids and adults, and also the difference in how we deal with those fears. A major motif is that the children actually have an easier time dealing with IT: they get out of the experience with much fewer injuries than the adults, don't go crazy looking into the Deadlights like some adult characters do, and are able to repress the trauma of the experience until one of them fails to deal with it ONLY as an adult. The fears IT can exploit from them are more childish, and they're more easily able to snap back from them. However, when it comes to the dangers of the Real World, such as the abuse the characters go through, the adults are better able to deal with these than the children can. When the kids descend into the sewer, it's like they're going on an adventure. A terrifying adventure that none of them feel fits the whimsy of fantasy, but the sewers are still more like a dungeon they descend to fight the dragon underneath. They don't really get lost, they don't have any problem seeing for inexplicable reasons. They're still fighting the monster, and the sewers are just the monster's lair. But when they defeat Pennywise, as far as that goes at the time, suddenly the sewer is dark. That inexplicable ability to see in a pitch black sewer is gone. They get lost, and they have no way to navigate this mundane danger. They're not fighting the monster anymore, they're now navigating a mundane danger from the real world and as children they don't have the ability to do so as easily. So in order to escape, the children have to become adults. See where we're going with this? What's one of society's most blatant rights of passage into adulthood? A really easy to point at mark of transition by which you can say, "Yes, that is a symbol for not being children anymore"? Yeah. That's the reason. Whether you decide that justifies it or not... I mean, I still think it is really fucking creepy.
"I'm MatPat, the RUclips clown, and we've got a whole circus down here..." That is actually a very accurate interpretation of The film Theorists AND The Game Theorists.
With regards to how it's possible all members of the losers club have the shining; it was actually mentioned in the book that the space turtle has been actually subtly directing each kid towards each other for their entire lives so that they would come together. So it's less of an "Oh, what are the odds all friends have psychic powers", and moreso that they were drawn together by the actions of a turtle god.
Just Do it That doesn't mean that we can't make the bot controversial enough that it is blocked from RUclips by reporting all its comments and calling it colorful curses.

So? He scares them plenty. The leper offering to blow Eddie for a quarter? Scared the shit out of him. The werewolf? Richie and Bill hugged each other and cried on a public street after that happened. As boys. In 1958. Boys don't do that in 1958. (In fact Bill cries over George in front of Richie. Richie glances around before putting an arm around Bill, and Bill makes Richie swear not to tell that he cried. That should give you an idea of how much you don't do that in 1958). Stan refused to even talk about his encounter with the dancing clown. He scared them enough, but he never did get around to eating them, did he? And we see him kill Eddie Corcoran. He pulls out the kid's dead brother and one monster, then bites his head off. That's it.

The Dark Tower movie is...a joke. Probably the WORST King adaptation of them all, on the order of the World War Z rewrite abomination. So, of course he's not going to see the interconnectedness of the Tower, since they pretty much threw out most of the story and crammed scenes from 3 books AND 2 of the short stories into that one movie, then tossed the whole mess into a blender that made it really make no sense at all.

You know, it has been definitely confirmed that like, 99% of Stephen King's books have been tied to the Dark Tower. In fact, IT is actually one of the demons that watches over the Tower. Pennywise the Dancing Clown isn't even his true form, just another shapeshift.

Thanks for writing this comment so I didn't have to. :)
We know that the clown is not IT's true form he only uses at form to more easily lure kids into traps

With all this in mind, it seems plausible that Carrie also has the shining, the strongest shine seen so far in the Stephen King connected universe. Let's go over the evidence:
Shining = telepathy with a cooler name
Carrie has telepathic abilities
MatPat pointed out that all characters with the shining (Danny, Halloran, the losers club) suffered abuse as a kid.
So, Richie is scared of Pennywise and Pennywise, a murderous being, is scared of a turtle. Wow.
Emmy in the Stephen king universe, the turtle is a celestial being that is stronger than it (for some reason)
@@JorgePerez-zh8io basically the turtle is the opposite of pennywise in a way that they were shown as the good and evil gods
Turtles are f*cking terrifying
The Turtle barfed out the universe, (I'm pretty sure) so it makes sense that it can defeat a being such as Pennywise. The Turtle is extremely large as well, but that doesn't really matter since It can shapeshift. Also, is anyone mad that MatPat didn't talk about The Dark Tower once?

⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️
12:34 To add a bit more evidence for IT being the evil in the shining, in the Shining book on page 606 when Wendy is convinced that the hotel has “taken full control” of Jack, she says “it panted at her through its grin.” And it happens again on page 619, when Danny is talking to Tony about his dad, “‘But you can’t stay long. Because it’s coming’ ‘It…’” and again on the same page “…but it wasn’t Daddy. He knew that now”
Stephen King is making it clear that there is a difference between Jack and the evil that’s “controlling” him. But it was not his daddy.”
In the IT movie, it is shown that pennywise can shape-shift into love ones but the characters in the movie realize that it’s not their loved ones just IT appearing like them.

I would love to see more videos highlighting the interconnectivity of the Stephen King stories. Definitely look into the Dark Tower series.
The dark tower books (not the movie) actually take a lot of this deeper and are very much worth the read.
IT was just a dumb predator who didn't know how to properly feed. Could have been having it's kicks out of any emotion if it were as smart as Dandelo.
Fair point, well said.
Not being afraid wouldn't give the kids the ability to psychically communicate or send power to Mike. After all it isn't untill the very end of the movie where they learn not being afraid helps, all the other time were *seemingly* luck

Much like the Wizard Glass Black 13 being stored in the basement of the Trade towers. While the other worlds are mutable and not entirely chronological our world is. What happens in our world can't be changed. It's why the Rose is so important, it's the physical manifestation of the tower in our world.
ACommonHero2 nice copy paste. I remember reading this somewhere else 🙄🙄🙄
Aaron Black doesn't change the fact that the IT Novel is both brilliant and stupid at the same time.

He doesn’t kill the kids not because of the “shining” but because he likes to scare his prey before eating it. He refers to it as “Salting the Meat”
That's it.

Did you literally just do a video about the interconnectedness of the Stephen King universe and not mention the series at the center of it all, The Dark Tower?! WHAT?!
I know, its freaking crazy. It does seem like he has a focus on the movies tho and the dark tower movie probably doesnt hold up to these theories like the books do.
Bill Radloff yea, I knew it was gonna be a bit hazy walking into it but I was not happy in the least walking out. One of the biggest problems I had was I watched it with someone who hadnt read a single dark tower book and they couldnt follow the plot. You seemly had to read the book to understand but then you know how bad it shat on the books.
5:38 I find it funny how half the stuff in this theory doesn’t happen yet Matt somehow predicts James McAvoy as Bill in a joke about Bill being professor Xavier
