Wow, THANK YOU for making this video and saving me from making a big mistake going with the cage I was originally leaning towards. I am all in on the space-gray Kondor Blue.
Thanks for this. I just got my R5c and tried my R6 (which I had already) and then R5c Black Mamba cages and was underwhelmed by both - for the reasons you stated. I’ll try Kondor Blue next. That system and their base plate just look more complete and well thought out.
i saw this video before i bought the cage and i still went with the black mamba. sadly i didnt know it had two versions so i was unlucky and got the old flexy one. and today i ordered the older small rig second version of their normal R5/6 cage which i read should be more rigid. i was also gonna consider the tilta cuz it looked like a tank and more affordable than the condor blue but this made me change my mind which saved me a lot of money. Thanks. Edit after 2 months. As soon as i got the regular smallrig cage i tossed it out because its flexy and maluable as hell and does not inspire confidence one bit!
Yeah I really didnt like that the Tilta had a contact point that would be touching the camera body like that. It was rubberized and maybe wouldnt mess any of the finish up but didnt want to risk it.
Be thankful for the double screws on that kondor, man. I’ve got an A1 cage from them that was very obviously designed before this was, and it is WILDLY janky. The camera rotates around and the whole thing feels like it’s about to fall apart any second. The eyelet screw hole on the left is bigger than the eyelet itself, to the point where now they just removed it for the model they sell.
I have this problem with the Kondor Blue R5 cage. Was this fixed with the R5 C cage? I just got a second one and love the Tilta cage but hate the propitiatory dovetail connection. Would love to try the Kondor Blue.
Yes there is contact points on both sides(that go into the strap holes) of the Kondor Blue R5C cage which makes it more secure than the R5 cage. Makes it very sturdy
thank you for the review. I rented the R5C recently and it came with the Tilta Cage. I absolutely hated it. Took me forever to even get the camera in there because it's so narrow. Also, the side part where it should protect the cables there's no way to get a micro hdmi through that mount on the side. I had to drive back to the rent because I didn't have such a small allen key at home to dismount the side part. Also the Tilta cage covers the top wheel of the r5c, so you can't use it when filming.
Went with the small rig, KB would have been 2nd but it’s so much bulkier and not easy to break down. Also have my monitor on the low profile nato to slide it on and off . Hdmi is annoying, I do have hdmi to micro relocater but still hate the sticking out part
Hi, Could you tell me if your camera got scratched or dented due to the point of contact of the small rig after months of usage, I have a Canon R5 and thinking of ordering the small rig cage.Thank you
@@RockyMaiviaMiami yes I’m looking at the standard one but I saw Small rig giving a 50% discount on black mamba for R5. It’s a great deal I think. I was just worried about the grip side where the cage comes in contact aggressively. Thanks to your comment, I feel relieved.
question.... did you say that the Kondor needs to be built around the camera? Meaning, once you have built the Kondor, the camera doesn't slide in or out?
Yes you literally use screws to build the cage around the camera it would take maybe 1-2 minutes using the tools it has on it to get it out. It does not easily slide in or out and is very secure inside once case is on it.
black mamba regular R5/6 horrible yet the sexiest. i got after even watching this video and now i hate myself cuz i cant figure out how to mound stuff to it without it looking like a soft warpy crappy cage that itches my OCDs
Hi, Mezzy. Thank you for sharing this. I was wondering, can I use Tilta lens support parts onto Kondor Blue cage? Looks like the Kondor Blue cage doesn't support this design, only Tilta does. But.... the Kondor Blue cage has the same screw holes in the front. So, just wondering can you test that?
Its the one with the button on top so you can start and stop recording on the top handle. They have a bundle that comes with it. "CANON R5C CINE CAGE - Full Gage with Top Handle" is the bundle I have
Amazing reviews on those three cages. Well done mate! I have a question about Kondor Blue one, is there any part of it touching (rubbing) R5C body while in use?
Hey, the only part I see there is definite contact is on the bottom(has 2 points of contact) & the strap hole which part of the cage goes into(3rd point). Everywhere else there is a gap and its not touching the body at all even the front rail across the body has a gap so it doesnt touch your camera body. Ill do a follow up soon of just the Kondor Blue Cage and how I use it personally and Ill try and do some close ups showing the gaps. That was my issue with the other 2 cages the Tilta was touching via a rubber pad on the top and the SmallRig has rubber in all the places it will be touching the body too so I just didnt like my cage rubbing those areas of my body at all so I went with the KB cage.
@@Maxiixam20 Nope, maybe i should do a follow up though! but I can say I still use it and love it, I never have had to take it out of its cage since this video and its still in there holding strong.
@@MezzyReviews I would love to see a follow up video. How have you found LCD screen with the HDMI clamp? How far can it turn out without the HDMI clamp blocking it?
Kondor Blue looks like its going to be the one. Ill be using it and if I end up not liking it for some reason ill probably go with the SmallRig cage since I was overall pretty happy with the other one I had except it wasnt rigid enough in my opinion but the newer R5C Black Mamba seems better. I will probably make a follow up of how I like the Kondor blue in a few weeks after I use it some more.
