Great review. The tilta cage should not need filing or any other frustrating adjustments. If things the case it’s a poor design and a fail on their part. I love Tilta stuff and have several of their products. But I do notice they enjoy some proprietary designs that in my opinion, will keep them off the top shelf of quality products. Even though they are very good quality overall. SMALLRIG has built a small empire in these accessory products and one reason aside from good quality, is they play well with others. I can use SMALLRIG Nitze and almost any other overseas brand together. SMALLRIG mostly stays away from proprietary designs. It’s key.
Thanks for putting this together. This is helpful as I'm weighing what cage to get for the R6M2. I have experience with SmallRig for a different camera so these little things are definitely helpful in my decision!
Thank you Brad! Very insightful and informative, keep up the great work! For me, the mic jack receiving pressure from the case is a deal breaker. Any accessories that could easily damage my gear is a serious issue, so you aren’t over thinking it. Side note: if you are interested in a critique, maybe wear a lighter colored shirt next time, so we can see the camera/gear and what you are showing a little easier. Thanks again!
I love the depth you went into, this is a really valuable comparison! New to cages and I wouldn't have anticipated the issues with the Tilta design. Have you looked at the SmallRig "Black Mamba"?
I had the black mamba cage for my R6 mI which has a 2nd mount point on the bottom pin and a 3rd point on the left side strap clip. Ultimately I realized that the cage didn’t have enough structure to resist twisting when loaded up with mic, monitor, and maybe a light. I hoped for a version that had those three points being on the bottom and both strap clips. Which is what we got with the mark ii. So, they fixed the twisting by adding more metal. But I find there are some minor mount hole refinement that would help solve some annoying rigging around handles, follow focus, and the cable clamps. So I feel like the SmallRig mII cage is a tank that can do more things if you’re clever enough; but they should give me a call and I’ll help them put out a solid V2. 😊
Great video. Very informative as I am deciding between the two different rigs for my camera. Your detail and nuance are appreciated in this video. You did a great job.

Very helpful! Thanks for the great review!
Thanks Brad
Nailed this!
can you just file the edge for the mic jack on Tilta a tiny bit?
I was wondering the same thing!
@@imaging213 same here. I'm thinking I could get my round file and just notch it out a slight bit.
will either of these cages fit the Eos R?
