- When driving a manual car, why does my car jerk when I change gear? Learning in a manual car changing gear is an important part of driving, and unless you know how and when to change gear you'll get that jerk or shaking when changing gear.
Two most common reasons why a manual car jerk when change gear. One because you lift the clutch up too quickly after changing gear. And second is because the the gear isn't correct for the speed you're driving. The clutch should come up slowly and smoothly after changing gear, and the gear should match the speed when changing gear.

It's very informative, good content .I believe Learning to drive never stops.Whats the best way of minimising use of a clutch so as not ware out the clutch plate,we need a clutch at junction's,hills and stops,or some areas its not necessary

Can you please explain road's.I struggle with understanding where us the left and ahead on big roads.Maybe I am not explaining my question fully.So if instructor said turn left and 3 big roads in front of me what does it mean.And we were to take left on the straight ahead route what would he say?

Hi! I just bought my first car with a lot of mileage on it.
Whenever I shift up, unless I release the clutch EXTREMELY (like 3+ seconds), I get multiple jerks from the shift..
Is it possible its a faulty transmission or am I really just that inexperienced that I need to be that patient with my clutch?
I think skipping gears can't be done on every manual car. Once I tried on my car , which is a little bit old car , I changed from 3 to 1 ,car started to stall . Probably skipping gears can be done on modern manual cars . If you can give me advice on that matter.

Also I changed from 3rd to 1st gear on a junction and my instructor said its a 2nd gear junction.The junction had parked cars on both sides and my thought process made me go into 1st gear.Can you share your email address for any questions please.Thanks
If you sure that that junction is not very sharp and free from vehicles and people you can take it on 2 gear.
