      You looked great in all the colours you put on. The shirt looked amazing in you too. You know the answer to the jacket "if it's not a hard yes..."
      Fantastic message and love that you're buying things to last! So much better for the environment.
      I have streamlined, I have more as I have work me and casual me. My week is pretty 50:50 between the two, so I have 4 smart work outfits. I love suit jackets and will wear those to work but throw them over jeans to look a little smarter. I love walking into my wardrobe and seeing space around my clothes so I can actually see what I have. All inspired by watching this channel ❤

      The shaket is a good color and the collar, etc. is very good.
      Where it cuts you wrong is the drawstring effect right under the breasts. Tends to make you look stuffed.
      If the drawstring was at your actual waist, it would be great! Send it back, or see if someone can redo that area for you.

      The tan jacket seems too short and you kept messing with it so I don’t think it fit your grab and go affinity. It didn’t seem part of an outfit but more something you put on till you got there and then remove.
      The black white plaid is mi j more pleasant all around.

    Let the tan jacket go back… The square neck dress and the rose colored sweater are just perfect. The black flannel shirt is crisp looking and will be fun to wear. I have watched so many of your videos and finally got a chance to work through my clothes. I’m in a season of life where I’m unlearning people pleasing and learning my self worth. I had no idea that the way I thought about myself was bleeding into the clothes that I was keeping my closet. Legitimately, I had shirts with holes in them and were way too large for me. I had them for years!!! And wore them regularly!!!! 😳 Why though??? Because I truly didn’t believe I was worth enough to wear things that were nicer and that made me feel good about myself. Last Saturday, I did the unthinkable. I threw those shirts away and said, “you are worth looking good and feeling good about yourself!” This is such an emotional season for me. Thank you, Jesus, for rescuing me and loving me. I can love me too!

    The black and white flannel is cute! The tan jacket, not so much. Love the pink sweater though! That is a smart swap!

    My body has changed so much with menopause that I finally got rid of everything that I didn't like wearing. All of the 'maybe one day' stuff...gone. All of the uncomfortable stuff...gone. I remember seeing in several of your videos that you said the 'if it's not a definite yes, then it's a no'. That's such a good motto. My closet has a limited wardrobe now and I like it. Thanks, Dawn.

    • @carriegorman3217
      @carriegorman3217 8 месяцев назад +9

      The menopause changes are real! I too am finally letting go of clothes that fit a few years ago, but just don't quite fit right anymore. I always thought if I just continued to try to eat right and exercise that I could thwart off all the changes! This has been hard, because deep down I've always thought that much of my worth came from being fit and trim. But God is teaching me that this is not where my worth comes from, and that I can grow more beautiful with each passing year in ways that matter to Him, as I seek to grow in having a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in His sight (from 1Peter 3:4). So, while I want to look nice on the outside, my FOCUS is on growing to be more beautiful in my walk and relationship with Jesus.

      While I agree that the beige sweater doesn't wash her out, per se, it's just very bland, esp with her darker hair color for fall. If it were me, I'd feel compelled to wear a scarf with it for a pop of contrast. The pink, however is WONDERFUL on her! Dawn, that shade of pink makes you glow! I thought so when you bought that pink flowered short-sleeve top for Spring/Summer. You are pretty in pink, for sure!

    I always enjoy your seasonal clothing videos! The square neck dress was a WOW for me! Looked like it was made for you. With the black & white shacket, try wearing a touch of red. Red earrings, red tank top, red necklace. I always get so many compliments when I add a little red to a black & white outfit. It’s unexpected & it dresses it up a bit.

  • @ericaterrones16

    The black and white jacket is cute and you’ll get lots of wear. The tan one, not so much. It’s seems like it cuts you in the middle. Looks maybe too short. If you’re questioning it, return.
    The “red” dress is WAY cute!! Love a square neck!! I think it’s the color that looks good also.
    I have a WAY simplified closet. I teach Pre-K and need clothes I don’t mind getting dirty. I have found 1 style of legging/pants that I have a dark gray and black in. My tops are always black, gray, or white (fall and winter). Most are tunic style, and some hit me right at the waist. COMFY IS MY MOTTO!
    In the spring going into summer I do about the same. Black and gray skorts and black, gray, white tops. More
    t-shirt style tops in the spring and beginning of school though.
    I’m a minimalist at heart and only have about 5 tops and my two bottoms for each season. I do have 4 dresses (same color choices though, surprise surprise) that I wear, but again COMFY all the way!!!!

      @edennis8578 8 месяцев назад +3

      For example, I just bought a pile of one particular top that was on clearance for $5.98 down from $27. I bought a couple of dozen because the fabric is amazing and I absolutely love the colors and style. I'll wear them every day, and it won't make me nervous about getting them stained or if my cats (or my son's enormous, affectionate dogs) put a hole in one. It's very freeing for me to know that I have clothes I truly enjoy and I don't have to be careful of them.

    Love the reminder that you don’t have to follow every trend! I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter if I repeat outfits for family occasions. I used to think people really remembered what other people wore until I realized most people are really only concentrated on what they themselves are wearing, ha! It’s easy to downsize your closet when you’re okay with rewearing the same clothes time and time again and not always asking my husband, “Did I wear this the last time we saw your family?”
    Also, I’m postpartum and ran out and found two pairs of jeans that fit well and I put the rest away. Now I open my dresser drawer and feel good while also being ready fast, which is what a mama needs!

    As a 67 yr old I have just changed my wardrobe “season” to the “what fits now” philosophy….what a game changer! Everything fits, I can choose what to wear each day without stress. So thank you for the inspiration!
    I love the dress you have chosen, it so suits you!
    On another note, I am in the family home where all “inherited” items from my Grandparents, Aunts, Parents and In-Laws reside.
    I had been de cluttering slowly but watching your videos, and Cass too, have helped me make good decisions and be able to let go of a lot. My goal is at least one bag of good donations and one trash bag a week. I’m passing on the time will tell using the “if it’s a maybe it’s a no”…I don’t have the time to wait 😊
    So thank you Dawn for being so inspirational.

    I am glad you are moving away from the all black wardrobe, because I don't think black flatters you close to your face. It looks too harsh for your hair and skin coloring. On the other hand, the rose sweater looks glorious on you! I would stay with black bottoms and then wear flattering colorful tops to have an easy system of wearing clothing.

    The square neckline dress is my favorite! Looks especially cute on you--the color, the fit, the flowiness of the fabric--just a darling look and it appears like it'd be super comfy to wear, too!

    • @michellelithgow7881
      @michellelithgow7881 8 месяцев назад

      Yes and I think another reason the square neck dress looks so good and better than the round neckline dress could be that the bodice pattern and the overall pattern of the fabric on the square neckline dress is way more on a Vertical line than the basic fabric pattern or appearance on the other round neckline dress.
      That's another general rule I use as a short person is to select vertical line fabrics ( to help look just taller and slender) and avoid things that have too much of a horizontal pattern or cut etc ( as it tends to make us look shorter and wider).
      Have also been told to avoid large patterns and large plaids on a small or shorter person. That solids or smaller patterns are usually much more flattering on a short person.
      So these are a few of my shopping guidelines.

    I realized that the clothes that I loved in the store (bright patterns, flowy fabrics) were not the clothes that I reached for on a daily basis.
    I now have a core wardrobe of about 15 tshirts, 5 stretchy pants, and a few hoodies ready to put on.
    I have a few dressy outfits for the few occasions I need them, but I love having room in my closet! Everything from doing laundry, putting it away, and getting dressed is easier.

    I have to say that the pink sweater and the rusty coloured square neck dress really bring your skin tone to life. If it’s not a “heck yes” then it’s really a “heck no!” Love the “shacket”. I keep working on simplifying my closet, too. I’m 56 and super tall (6’1”) and don’t have much choice where I live so I end up with “meh, good enough” for a lot of items. Those are the ones I tend to never keep long term. Such a struggle, I totally get it! (PS: the tan/camel jacket is a “no”. It looks too tight and not the most flattering colour on you.)

On the one hand, I wanted to be dressy, but on the other hand, I was looking for comfortable and cute clothes for after work (going out with friends, for weekends, church,...). After many rounds of decluttering and figuring out what I like to wear, I finally feel confident enough to invest in good quality pieces. Figuring out what stores carry the kind of clothes I like is very helpful. I wish I could find things thrifted but the thrift stores where I live aren't great and mostly just waste my time. It is so nice getting one or two quality pieces instead of settling for a bunch of ok cheaper ones. Being more picky and having a list helps so much so I have a mission to accomplish and I don't just go "clothes shopping" in general.

It says, "Today I choose to be fun." All the things you shared are so 'spot on.' I'm 71 yo, short, and also want to feel good in what I have on. Getting ready for church, sometimes after checking things out in the mirror, I return to the closet for a slight change of clothing. Other days- it might be fine. Thank you so much. Clothing has been one area that has been a huge struggle for me over the years with my body type, coming in and out of pregnancies, and funny enough, trying to decide what my best colors are. Now that I have the decluttering mindset, it is easier for me to make the conscious choice to let clothes go. Even ones with the tag on them. Even ones that are technically in great condition if I just lost a few pounds or whatever. And I refuse to buy anything unless I am 100% happy with it. Do I absolutely love my wardrobe right now? No, but it's a work in progress and I'm not just spending money aimlessly anymore. I'm much more intentional, and somehow, getting rid of the clothes that weren't working for me actually helps me focus on the clothes that I have that I do like.

Once I minimized I felt pressure that everything had to be an expensive purchase so that it would be high quality and so that I could wear it forever and I much more enjoy buying cheaper things and getting some things that I can say I enjoyed for this season but now I'm going to let them go if they don't turn out to be something I want to keep for the next season.

I sew, so I had a few patterns that were really flattering, and I just made those patterns over and over again, in different fabrics. Now, (at 70+) I have one pant/shorts pattern, one skirt, one shirt, and one top pattern, that have worked for me for years.

    Love, love, love the shacket! It looks great, it’s super cute and flannels never go out of style!

    Thank you for your candid honesty and for sharing an experience that is so stressful and vulnerable for most of us. We appreciate you & we love you too, Dawn!
    I LOVE the gray herringbone ribbed sweater you carried from last year, but I would pass on the beige jacket, unless it makes you feel fabulous. "I dunno" means "I don't love it", and when you find that jacket you DO love, you'll feel too guilty to buy it if you've kept this one (from my experience).
    100% I agree with buying multiples in different colors - IF you loved it enough to try to buy it again, I definitely feel confident buying 2 or 3 more!

    My wardrobe is solid color pants, one of each color in winter weight and one of each in summer weight. Tops are in a variety of colors and patterns in summer weight fabric and a couple of winter cardigans. This makes decisions on what to wear super easy.
