I introduced my nephews to Avantasia yesterday and they both love the hell out of this band (this song was among the many they listened to). I have a feeling my sister is gonna kill me when they eventually start bugging her for Avantasia songs but it's worth it 😂
One little "background" thing I always loved about Avantasia was the fact how precisely Tobi manages to write songs fit for particular singers. Out of all - Alice Cooper, Klaus Maine, Hansi Kürsch, Dee Snider, freaking Mille Petrozza - and these are just singers he "employed" for one or two songs only. Jorn Lande or Michael Kiske, shining on almost every record, are even more beautiful examples.
And now we get Ralf Scheepers, and he fits right in yet again?
Damn, Tobi, you surely know your stuff.
The guy's a genius!
That's what I love the most about Tobi and Avantasia. He doesn't just throw random vocals into his songs. He creates a song for the specific guest to shine the most. I don't usually go and check out bands when their lead singer guest other bands but I've branched out from Avantasia with almost every single guest because he makes them sound as perfect as possible. He's a master of his craft.
Not to mention Jon Oliva :)
The verse is classic Primal Fear, the chorus is classic Avantasia. Perfect.

Hellfire Club is handsdown my favorite album next to Power Plant by Gamma Ray. Start to finish. This song "came together" but doesn't match the near perfection that is Book of Shallows

What a burner, that song is FIRE! In terms of story I am getting a real Frankenstein vibe with the pitchforks and hunting down the protagonist even haunting their dreams. You are always such a compelling storyteller Tobi!
Didn't appreciate the song much last night, but when I woke up today and listened to the song again I loved it. I had this on repeat. And this video is done so well.
Same. I was even a smidge disappointed the first time I heard it. But then I played it again an hour later... and have heard it like 20 times since.
I had the same feeling. I think it has to do with the sound quality of the ones that were leaked online.
I missed the actual reveal on Tobi's radio show and all I could find were unofficial vids for it on YT and unofficial rips on YT music. They all sounded awful. Listened to this official release and both my husband and I first mentioned how much better the sound quality was on the lyric video (listened to both the unofficial ones and this one on my Samsung phone's crappy speaker). It made a huge difference in the enjoyment of this track for sure. Can't wait to give it a listen on our high end audio system tonight!
@@thewarhamster8139 Apparently in some places songs on Spotify are released earlier than in the others. And the songs aren't released worldwide yet, the sound quality is different.
I remember the night when Blind Guardian released Deliver Us From Evil single, the sound was kinda dry, but when I heard it next day it was fresh (I still needed a lot of listens to appreciate that song).

@@RockstarWizardess Yeah, I don't use spotify as their streaming bitrate is lower then YT music. Hence, a shittier sound quality accross the board on Spotify when compared to other platforms.
Husband and I are audiophiles so we typically buy the cd to support the artist and then rip them in flac or download the flac from the artist if they make them available for our own use. But when the cd or flac isn't an option and we have to go for streaming... YT music over spotify any day.

I sort of expected this album to be the most defanged and pop-rock in the discography due to the general trend of their work, but was pleasantly surprised. Tobias has still got it!

The opening riff reminded me a lot the music of Rage (so underrated band). Pure Power metal, you can hear the influence from Rage, Primal Fear, André Matos, to mention some. Great song
