I am so happy... This music was released on my birthday, 12/14. Blind Guardian is my favorite band and the next in line is Avantasia. To listen to three of my favorite singers in the same song made me cry. Thank you Tobi. I am waiting for you guys here in Brazil!
I spent my highschool days listening mostly to Blind Guardian and I can't express how glad I am that Hansi is still being recognised as an amazing vocalist that he is.
It seems to be the anti-scarecrow.. The Scarecrow album was about the creature [Scarecrow] looking for love, acceptance into the bright new world he was exploring to escape the monotony of his dark fields he tended.. Moonglow on the other hand, is the story of a nocturnal creature that sees this bright world he never knew existed, and he avoids and runs away from the light, instead preferring to bask in the "Moonglow" of the dark night.
I love this comment. I was thinking this album was significantly more positive in tone and feel and this song in particular has a strong resemblance to The Scarecrow. That resemblance is so strong that I've mentally logged this as their second greatest piece under The Scarecrow, but the lyrical interpretation you offer is so apt. I think what I love about both pieces, adding to your contrast, is that the lyrics and singing in The Scarecrow are masterful, as is the instrumentation and composition. However, they shine independent from one another. The Raven Child is quite different. Through almost the whole song, with equal lyrics, singing, instrumentation, and composition, there's a constant play off each other. The strip of bars between 3:15 and 4:03 is an example of this. They accentuate and boost one another in this conscious effort that makes this song the star of this album. Great catch with the "anti-Scarecrow."
I see that theme for sure. For me, this album was more of a loose concept about escapism, which means a lot to me being that I love fantasy and fictional stories since they allow me to get away from this world for a bit while enjoying another world where I can actually make a difference.
Those who compared the genius of Tobi with the likes of Mozart and Shakespeare weren't really stretching anything. He's indeed a truly distinct mastermind of composing from our time. It's a breathtaking effusiveness and poetic awe, which are converged so distinctly (hence the "Avant-Garde" style) which still, it yet happens for me to get a bit lost haha. I would be very thanked if someone could share their personal mindblows and interpretations towards this magnificent piece.

Man, this is just fantastic ! Combination of Tobi, Hansi and Jorn ? Just too good...Just not sure about the first time when the intruments kick in, the mixing in that part is a little strange, the sound kinda compressed I on't.know... But anyway,.what absolutely amazing track, Tobi is a genius ! I LOVE Ghostlights, but this is their best song since Scarecrow in my opinion

Speaking as a huge fan, you're missing everything. :) Avantasia is a metal/rock opera project/band and all their albums are conceptual with a "story" stretching over 2-3 albums each. I think youtube has some full albums floating around, so you could listen to those to get a feel for the diversity of songs, or you could just click on random Avantasia songs and work your way through whichever ones you like the best. If you like their long, epic songs like this one, try Let The Storm Descend Upon You (my personal favorite), The Scarecrow, Savior In The Clockwork, The Seven Angels, Stargazers, The Wicked Symphony, or The Tower. I always wonder, did Tobias instantly know just how good this song is? I mean, it took me like 10 play-troughs to really, deeply, fall in love with it. Maybe he was also surprised after multiple play-troughs, crying a little, thinking; man I really outdid myself this time.
The lead singer from queensryche, is on this album you know. And this is the point, Avantasia, just like Queensryche is a conceptual band that tells stories in their albums.

The ultimate Avantasia album should have Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson and Eric Adams in it. Since this is not going to happen I enjoy this stuff the way it is, which is pretty amazing by the way.

Those who compared the genius of Tobi with the likes of Mozart and Shakespeare weren't really stretching anything. He's indeed a truly distinct mastermind of composing from our time.
It's a breathtaking effusiveness and poetic awe, which are converged so distinctly (hence the "Avant-Garde" style) which still, it yet happens for me to get a bit lost haha. I would be very thanked if someone could share their personal mindblows and interpretations towards this magnificent piece.

Just too good...Just not sure about the first time when the intruments kick in, the mixing in that part is a little strange, the sound kinda compressed I on't.know... But anyway,.what absolutely amazing track, Tobi is a genius ! I LOVE Ghostlights, but this is their best song since Scarecrow in my opinion

Speaking as a huge fan, you're missing everything. :) Avantasia is a metal/rock opera project/band and all their albums are conceptual with a "story" stretching over 2-3 albums each. I think youtube has some full albums floating around, so you could listen to those to get a feel for the diversity of songs, or you could just click on random Avantasia songs and work your way through whichever ones you like the best. If you like their long, epic songs like this one, try Let The Storm Descend Upon You (my personal favorite), The Scarecrow, Savior In The Clockwork, The Seven Angels, Stargazers, The Wicked Symphony, or The Tower. This is amazing! What a delicate composition of medieval motives, rock-n-roll, heavy- and power-metal - all in one! It's epic! I almost sense how Dio trembles in his grave, as the waves of this melody flows through his bones.

I always wonder, did Tobias instantly know just how good this song is? I mean, it took me like 10 play-troughs to really, deeply, fall in love with it. Maybe he was also surprised after multiple play-troughs, crying a little, thinking; man I really outdid myself this time.
