  • We had a call for a couple of guys doing a rafting trip on the Dirty Devil River.
    After low water conditions, unusually colder weather, being wet and getting snowed on, they decided to throw in the towel and call for a pick up.
    It is a beautiful drive and with all this moisture this winter, my guess is there won't be a shortage of spring flowers and greenery.
    And just for the record, Don't be a douche. Leave your spray paint at home and only leave footprints!

    I realize I'm late to the party but, wow! Thank you for posting this amazing video. The notes and hints and general information is incredibly helpful. I was in the area (Hanksville, Hwy 95 etc.) this past May but didn't make it out here. It is now firmly on my list of trails for my next visit. 👍 Just about every road one takes off of 95 (or damn near any other highway in the area, for that matter) leads to some pretty spectacular places. I get the feeling I could spend a couple of months and still miss 70% of it. Thanks again - a new subscriber here.

    thank you so much for this video, cant say how helpful it is when planning trips to see current road condtions. are small suvs with half or so foot of clearance acceptable? Thanks again for a great video!

      A small SUV shouldn't really have any issues with this trail but the one place you will have to use caution is rough, steep part after the cattle guard where the video is slowed down. The video really doesn't show how steep it really is. But take it easy and slow and you should be fine. If you have any questions, swing by the shop (in Hanksville) and feel free to say hi. Have fun and be safe out there!

    Thanks for sharing! We are headed into the Maze District next week and I was planning to go in through Hite but this seems like a more scenic route. How is the Dirty Devil crossing looking these days? Based on the USGS flow rate in Hanksville I’m guessing the crossing is 10” deep at most, sound close to you? Thanks again!

      I haven't been down to the Dirty in about a month so I can't exactly say how the river is right now but there are 2 things I can say with confidence.
      1. I have not had anyone in saying the dirty is unpassable. In fact, I talked with the owners of Hanksville Tours just 2 days ago and they just got back in town from there and they didn't say anything about the water level or unable to cross.
      2. Just like this video, I get called to transport people and their gear on these rafting expeditions and we are still having people pulling out early in their trips in Hanksville because of low water. The latest one was just last week.
      Now, this isn't an official report because I haven't seen it personally in over a month but my guesstimization would be that it is still a safe level to cross right now. We are having a warm up (80's during the day) so that may change by next week but we are still 50° in the mornings in Hanksville.
      Remember, Be safe out there and if you go, let us know how it is

      Thanks RabbitBrush, we did it and survived ;) Gauge height was running around 6.5’. Our camper bed got a little damp but dried by the time we got to Sunset Pass. What a beautiful drive! ruclips.net/video/FiT_5iuYanA/видео.html

    Which camera are you using? Does it have image stabilization?

    • @RabbitbrushOffroad
      @RabbitbrushOffroad  Год назад +1

      GoPro 5 with digital stabilization on. The road is not pavement and is bouncy and uneven. More than the stabilization can take out.

      Plus, the video is sped up 5x the actual speed, which also adds to the stabilization issue. Real time isn't as bad but who want to sit thru 2 hours of just watching the drive.

      @@RabbitbrushOffroad You probably need to place camera so it doesn't show your truck's hood, that's what it's actually stabilizing and that's the least important part here.
