    In the Philippines, where flooding is almost instant, we are taught how to ride through flooded roads, I was taught by my father, observe the road, see if anyone made it across. Keep the engine running, slow is better than stopping. I used a Honda XLR before and cruised through flooded roads where some pickups are scared to go through. These tips from FortNine are accurate ☺️

    You forgot an important point. A very good tip at crossing rivers is to stand on the opposite side of the bike where the stream is going so you can support the bike with your body on the wrong side the stream can take you bike down and you will only have the handle bars in your hands while your bike is trying to flow away. I had to learn it the hard way on the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan 🇹🇯

    This sits close to home, I live here in south east asia where flooding is constant and these are my tips for it first if your crossing a flooded area rev that go to your lowest gear like first gear next is rev that engine up control the rev with you clutch make sure that i won't stall else water will enter through your exhaust, you can also add grease at your sparkplug and ignition coil to prevent water from entering it and last make sure you dont let water get into your air filter else you'll stall
    On repairing a bike that stallled on the flood, just drain the water out of the exhaust and carb (if you have one) then make sure the air filter and spark plug is dry and last check if your primary stator is fried but that just happens when your gaskets are broken, so there's my tips incase you have to go through flooded streets or crossing into rivers

      /s
      It great and all but fk, you can't drive them 500 miles without some kind of maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair.
      Car tires for example usually last a minimum 20k miles. Good luck finding a set of motorcycle tires to last 6k. The chain needs constant attention and if your bike is carburated it wanna have that cleaned after about 1500 miles. Currently sitting on a broken clutch cable. Maybe its a sign to just park mine for winter? The motorcycle is something that should go go go but has been neutered into a "hobby" for a wealthy few.

      @@RabiesTheBeagle Your "opinion" on how bad motorcycles are is just wrong. My 1994 Honda ST1100 has carbs and I never touched them in the 100K km's I had the bike. Try some modern tires, like Dunlop Trailmax Mission, or Heidenau K60 Scouts. Or, for street bikes, Dunlop Elite 4, Metzeler ME888. All of these tires get 20,000 + km's! Newer tires have come a long way, as have carbs. A broken clutch cable is a maintenance issue. Or, carry a spare.

    I'm not sure what I just watched or when - or perhaps more importantly - why it will become useful for me to know it. However, I thank Ryan and the mighty Fortnine crew for providing this public service announcement. Also, the money counting machine during the sponsored ad section - genius!

      I run Shinko 700 front and rear (one of Ryan's previous recommendations). Turtle fur neckwarmer or a good 'ol wool scarf, plus a nice beard (maybe not as nice as yours!) does me fine here in southern ID. HTH!

      @@adamsj01 He did make a riding in snow video but it was mostly fun messing about. Anyway the 700s are still at maybe 30% after around 7k, but then it's just a 300lb XT250 with a 150lb guy on, riding conservatively! Dunno if they even make 'em for your bike.

    • @adamsj01
      @adamsj01 2 года назад

      @@SoybeanAK copy that. Myself and the bike are a bit heavier. I don't know the meaning of conservative. I'm showing cords at 3k. Perhaps I'll swap on a car tire.

    As a rider that has passed through many of rivers seat deep on a 250 2-smoke i can clarify half of what your talking about including throttle/clutch control and speed going through the water if you can half wheelie against the current fadt enough from the peek of passage depending on depth and water speed if you hug your legs to the bike as if you were in an oh shit moment regular riding you create a wave around your bike that will still allow good airflow around your airbox and you also get good practice for wheelies and if you do drown her out simply turn your gas off kick it over a few times tip it on its ass end and turn it over a couple of times by hand and repeat the process untill no water pours from the exgaust after that turn on fuel full choke and kicker over till she fires and let her warm up fully before continuing your way but all in all great video for anyone that has no idea

    the only bad thing about fortnine is how long of a gap there is between videos, ryan even makes the sponsorship segment feel interesting and gets me to watch it. i can’t help but to think this video was probably supposed to go out in summer tho, and not approaching winter…

    I broke one of these rules, and may continue to do so in the future. While I've never stormed the beach on two wheels, I've had to ford many streams. Cold. Cold ones. Usually when there was ice present to some degree. The majority were ankle deep, but there were plenty that would have come up around knee high. If there was significant flow to either make noise over my exhaust or break up/stop the ice from forming, I'd continue to look for the best crossing. Here's where my actions diverged from the advised: I would cross at an angle that had me going slightly upstream against the flow. Obviously I want to cut a short a line as possible, but after witnessing a buddy lose traction crossing perpendicular to flow and almost losing it myself (I got wetter than I wanted. COLD!) I've since then adapted the angle. Never with flow, always slightly against.
    Ya know what? After some consideration my aging joints and arthritis have voted. "F*€K that cold weather." How will I ever convince them otherwise?
