I find they don't blind people nearly as much as when they're mounted on a gun, because it seems to be angled down a lot. if you aim over someone's head, _then_ you're shining it right in their face. which.. isn't the most useful as you don't want to shoot over them lol
something i think is worth noting as well is that most flashlight setups will give you an ergo penalty on your gun but if it's on your helmet you don't get that penalty.
bibageef Ps. I'd say the main reason to put a flashlight on your helmet is if you are using a gun that cant fit one, say the SVT, RFB or a pistol like APB. That way you can still clear dark corners. But yeah, i'd rather just use a different gun :D
One thing u forgot to test is how everything changes when a device allows u to have flashlight+laser at the same time in the same device, the baldr shows a change in the light intensity but im not sure if the other players see that too or its the same light to them
Helmet flashlights are actually really comfortable to run. What I mean is just use one a few night raids in a row and you'll see the quality of life improvement. Sprinting is so much nicer....freelook obviously points the light...umm oh and peeking. When you blind someone around a corner, they instinctively shoot above the light source, right? Well peeking when the light is on a helmet could very well cause the enemy to shoot above your head initially giving you the initiative in a battle. The person who wins the first half-second of a fight usually wins the fight.
Crazy timing, I ranked last night myself with these and decided on the WMX because how much further I could see with it. Only thing I tested that you didn't was what its like looking through a LPVO with the flashlights on and also when using nightvision. The X400 and Olight let me use nightvision with the flashlight on but the WMX was way too concentrated. I still prefer the WMX but after seeing this video and how much it hides the player with the predator I am now considering using that. Granted it's -3 ergo to use the predator instead of -2 on the wmx. Good findings, Ive been telling friends how the WMX200 is good since last night and you drop this haha
Great vid as always :) Would like to make a suggestion just for readability sake. The screen at 1:58, I think itd be easier if they were highlighted/colored in the bottom that way you dont have to read up and down or consistently pause and play to understand exactly which youre looking at. Other than that everything is great. :D
I few months ago I came into your stream and watch for a while. During the time I mentioned to you that the X400 was significantly better than the BalderPro. I might not have made much sense in the comments or it was a mixture of you being busy and my poor commenting as to why I wasn't clear. But I'm glad this video finally came out because it is a really good topic that people need to know.
flashlight on helmet is good if you use silencer as they can obscure flashlight blinding from different angles, also there is theoretical advantage where some people might aim slightly above the center of flashlight trying to hit your head and this time they will be shooting above your head. Also it saves ergo on your gun.
possible use for helmet flashlight: you can stack both a weapon flashlight and a helmet flashlight, and you can activate both of them even while ADSed and firing (the helmet animation makes it seem like you cant but you actually can). so more illumination, more pmc blinding
I just want them to add a hideout option to toggle them before i go into a raid so i dont have to spend the first bit of the raid clicking through all the options. Plus if im trying to combine 2 devices, and i extracted with one on, i have to buy them new from traders if i want them all off at the same time(unless anyone else knows a trick)
You can remove one of the device from your gun, turn on/off the other, and then remount the first one so that they are in sync again. Devices retain their on/off status even when not mounted on a gun. You can also use this to place flashlights on the floor by turning it on and then discarding it from your gun.
I actually prefer helmet-mounted flashlights now. First al all, they keep everything clear and illuminated when you're running, and second, you don't have to switch though all kinds of modes if you want to keep the laser on all the time but want to toggle only the lights on and off, when entering or exiting a building for example. Makes your inventory less messy as well, so your attachments aren't all stuck on different modes.
@Gigabeef the helmet one is useful for when I cosplay in game as the human torch and ask people if they need someone to guide their way. Stuck with the name HumanTorch for 2 weeks each time but it's totally worth it.
I like to wear a non combo flashlight on my helmet since it wont give me hipfire benefits regardless, gives me more precise control over which devices are on if I have stuff on my gun, and my personal biggest reason being I can sprint in the dark and see whats in front of me
Whats weird about helmet mounted flashlight is that IRL people mount the flashlighs facing up so that they will bounce off of the ceiling and illuminate the room. Which could be cool for tarkov!
Its really cool how bsg made pistol lights and rifle lights distinct from each other on how the rifle lights have way more throw while pistol lights have way more flood
Be careful. I removed a flashlight in the raid and added it again. Then the always on flashlight bug occurred again... Luckily we were a duo team and my teammate could warn me that I was a glowing light on interchange...
very interesting, at this point I should subscribe really, been watching so many of these 😅 as someone who's been playing since 2018, I assumed lasers had no effect on hipfiring, only to visually help you. but man, that difference is huge! also I started using helmet lights in the beginning of this wipe as they FINALLY added a hotkey for it, however it doesn't blind others nearly as much as it does when on a gun because the flashlight seems to be angled down a lot. to have the same effect, you need to aim way over their head, which.. isn't very useful :p used the klech 2p, x400 and baldr pretty much any time I've played daytime, and wow.. I'm gonna stop doing that from now on xD
The only real combination is one of the brightest with one of the widest. That'll give you full blinding straight on while giving partial concealment at a wider angle.
I really wish they would make toggle laser and toggle light separate keybinds (and subsequently toggle laser mode and toggle light mode) so that using devices in raid was much easier than having to fumble through a confusing cycle of toggles. The old keybinds could be retained too. I also wish they would make it so the point fire bonus was active for *all* flashlights/lasers *only* when they are on *and* in a mode that you can see. So the bonus would only be active for devices on and in a visible light mode without NVGs, and for all modes with NVGs (and also none of them with thermals, but who uses T-7s?). I feel like the intended balance here was that you were supposed to have an active aiming point that both you and the enemy could see as a trade-off for getting the bonus. Another bonus point about the Armytek Predator Pro v3 XHP35 HI flashlight, it has a second mode that is somewhat dimmer (about as bright as the Ultrafire WF-501B flashlight) for when it's just too bright and is washing out your visibility. I have been using it all wipe and it has been fantastic. You can also point-fire in bursts, and it makes it more controllable.
I think the clearest use-case for a flashlight on the helmet is to use one of the high power flashlight-only devices and have it decoupled from the laser on your gun. That way you can have the light on or off without also turning the laser on or off.
Biggest complaint about flashlights in Tarkov is they are not rendered as they would be in the real world (difficult, I know). During the day, these lights should NEVER blind you. Also, at too great of angles they tend to blind where real lights would be only totally blinding if they are directly pointed at your face. Drop down to your chest, waist, etc and there would be no blinding effect at all.
7:10 Wait, so point fire is still improved even if the flashlight doesn't have a laser? So like a Klesch 2U will improve it even without IR? I was under the impression that you need to use flashlights with both a light and a laser that are switched on at the same time (like the X400). Does that not make the 2U the best flashlight? Super wide, blinds from a lot of angles, blinds a LOT and gives point fire bonus. 10:00 Wow wtf?? That's a game breaking bug.
5:40 that feels very useful for early wipe night raids - you can see, but are less visible to others, thanks to no halo effect around your gun. At least you are *less* visible
i'd think that for close range engagements, the 2U is probably the best because it gives the widest blinding cone, so if you're not intending to use it for visibility out to range, it would give the most reliable blinding arc.
I have been using the WMX a lot last wipe and I liked it, but ran into an issue sometimes where the flashlight's beam would actually blind me as well when shining the light at a person/object decently close. This wipe I have been using the Armytek pretty much exclusively and it's been working a treat when combined with the blue laser
If you’re running a pistol at night, having a flashlight on your helmet will help you see where you’re going when you sprint because the light won’t be thrown around as if the light was on your pistol
Use flashlight on helmet if you're going nighttime factory for instance and want to use a gun like the KS-23 since it has no tactical slot for a flashlight. Flashlights tend to be better on night factory, especially when you are near any areas with ambient lights like the office.
flashlight on helmets are usefull for eapons with no way to atach them at all, like the vepr hunter or RDB, and with this new test, unless you use the top rail with AKs, you can only use one side of the gun for either a light or a laser so having a laser on the gun and a good flashlight on the helmet might be a good use since it seems that the combo laser/sights are sub optimal
Ive returned to this game and I'm having a fantastic time thanks to all the great guides. Your channel helped me years ago when you were first starting out. Got me up to speed in no time once again. Thank you. Does AI see and react to light in a simulated way? I.e. is it best to use the IR beam to avoid them seeing you , or are they going off of just the character model's visibility and sound? Been trying to find an updated answer to this
it's kind of difficult to tell, but it seems like AI doesn't react to flashlights, though they might get blinded or an accuracy penatly if you point them at their face? I've had moments where I've aimed at a PvE pmc while I was shooting at them and they only got one or two shots off while using an automatic gun. its hard to tell
I use helmet flashlights when im running day reserve or night streets because of the bunker in the former and the streetlights in the latter. Both cases make NVGs an unnecessary expense as ill be turning the NVGs on and off too much to make it worth it, or the dark area is too small to make NVGs worth the cost to run
Can you do a video on how far each sound can be heard (loading mag, slow walking, reloading, etc)? It always feels like if I can hear them (running), they can hear everything I do
@@aibaratygaev6766 i'm a fan of stank rat and already seen him dropping shotguns with lights to blind people lol but that doesn't really answer the questions like if i put a light on the helmet and a light on the gun with combination of the 2 would be better, would be better to have the wide light on the helmet and the long range on the gun or vice versa should i not even bother with the light on the helmet and put a wide light and long range light on the gun,...mind you i'm speaking in general and not asking you directly so no pressure
id say spotlight on helmet cause of freelook peeking and widebeam/blinder on gun since your chest is a lot bigger than your head and ideally youd want it to cover as much as possible of ur body as you cant mount a third flashlight on your private parts
I notice you used different guns to test the lights, having it on a carbine would set the lights position way ahead of any of the pistols examples. Since they are actually casting from a different point, I would see it effecting the test results, you would probably just want to test on factory night raids so the time is locked and ambient lights will not factor into the test.
flashlights are good, but my current problem is that fog makes it look like milk everywhere with stronger lights. So if I want to actually see (not to blind) I may prefer dimmer lighs
In game I always run the flashlight on the helmet. for night raids and indoors. Why? People tend to aim above the lightsource for headshots. and shoot over my head.....a lot
Left hand lights reduce the effectiveness of your right hand peak tho, i feel under barrel lights are the best to keep your left and right hand peaks very tight and still blind your opponent.
Problem with that is if they shoot the center of the orb, they’re shooting you. Is that a problem in actual application? Not sure, but in real life, keeping the light away from your body is a good practice.
@@bigcheeseroll284he meant that the bliding effect of the light would cover your body better, so a better concealment; you are right, the guns dont give you cover, but he wasn't talking about that i think.
The 4 that you listed as the brightest were my only tacticals after the first 2 weeks when I started playing night raids and the bald pro wouldnt light up the turret at lexos and I got killed darkness is really bad in this game not because it exist but because places that should be bright are dark from a distance but not from upclose so I chose longer range flashlights over lasers
The ultrafire has always been my favourite, with many of the brighter beams it can be hard to know what are you looking at cause it just looks super bright not with the ultrafire, esoecially as it has 2 modes one of which is even dimmer which is better for me
TLDW - Flashlights : Visibility Distance Best: WMX200, 2D, WF501B, & XHP35. Visibility Beam Width Best: Klesh-2U > (Klesh-2P, DBAL, Baldr Pro, LAS/TAC2, X400, GTL21) Blinding vs Players: XHP35 > Klesh-2U > LAS/TAC2 > Rest are similar until worst (XC1) General Recommended Best = XHP35 Flashlight & WMX200. Best Single-Item Combo Recommended = LAS/TAC2, KLESH 2-P, or DBAL. Combo Recommendation for Flashlight + Laser = WMX200 + NCStar Blue Laser for Day Raids ( to ensure always have "point fire bonus" with flashlight on and off)
I've used flashlight w/ helmet on night factory before - very nice when trying to level up weapons that can't mount their own lights and feeling too broke for NVGs Only thing I dislike is I have no idea how to turn it on/off :C
What about double flashlights? Two big klesh gets too bright, but all the others can be good at keeping your visability but really blinding your opponent

Whats the hotkey to turn on/off the flashlight in the helmet? We couldn't do that 4 years ago.
Re: flashlight bait, StankRat used a flashlight on a shotgun to set up a trap in D2 and it (apart from being hilarious) worked
WMX200 is the Sniper's Flashlight
I use helmet flashlights when im running day reserve or night streets because of the bunker in the former and the streetlights in the latter. Both cases make NVGs an unnecessary expense as ill be turning the NVGs on and off too much to make it worth it, or the dark area is too small to make NVGs worth the cost to run
Can you do a video on how far each sound can be heard (loading mag, slow walking, reloading, etc)? It always feels like if I can hear them (running), they can hear everything I do
this is epic my giga
Awesome video.
I think experimenting with a combination of wide beam and spot light flashes on helmets and guns would of been worth while
watch StankRat. He drops shotguns with a bunch of flashlights to blind and/or confuse enemies. Sometimes it gets ridiculously bright
So useful
If you put the Zenit 2D under rifles it looks like a fake grenade launcher. Throw it under the MP5SD it looks like a Half Life 1 smg.
Ultrafire cone of light is a good hipfrie or pointfire flashlight
I notice you used different guns to test the lights, having it on a carbine would set the lights position way ahead of any of the pistols examples. Since they are actually casting from a different point, I would see it effecting the test results, you would probably just want to test on factory night raids so the time is locked and ambient lights will not factor into the test.
oh hell yea ive been wanting this
Is this with or without post fx enabled? From my experience its easier to see past flashlights when post fx are disabled.
Great vid ! GG
flashlights are good, but my current problem is that fog makes it look like milk everywhere with stronger lights. So if I want to actually see (not to blind) I may prefer dimmer lighs
i thought you were exaggerating when you said the 2D completely disappeared on a certain angle lol
In game I always run the flashlight on the helmet. for night raids and indoors.
Why?
People tend to aim above the lightsource for headshots. and shoot over my head.....a lot
The position of the flash light matters too. Having it on the left side of the gun gives you more body protection.
Don't think weapons can stop bullets in tarkov
Left hand lights reduce the effectiveness of your right hand peak tho, i feel under barrel lights are the best to keep your left and right hand peaks very tight and still blind your opponent.
Problem with that is if they shoot the center of the orb, they’re shooting you. Is that a problem in actual application? Not sure, but in real life, keeping the light away from your body is a good practice.
You can't shoot the gun so all bullets go through it.
@@bigcheeseroll284he meant that the bliding effect of the light would cover your body better, so a better concealment; you are right, the guns dont give you cover, but he wasn't talking about that i think.
Putting the xhp35 and the zenit at the same time gives you far and close overlap. Put one that has a very narrow beam on your head too.
SINCE WHEN HAVE FLASHLIGHTS BEEN IN THE HAND WE FINALLY MOVING OUT THE BETA WITH THIS ONE
I wonder if the x400 (and others who have a similar mode) blinds more with the flashlight + laser mode ?
IRL many of the dual function devices get dimmer when both the laser and flash is on because of the increased power draw from the battery.
The ultrafire has always been my favourite, with many of the brighter beams it can be hard to know what are you looking at cause it just looks super bright not with the ultrafire, esoecially as it has 2 modes one of which is even dimmer which is better for me
Flashlights lighting the background of your legs when you holster it
TLDW -
Flashlights :
Visibility Distance Best: WMX200, 2D, WF501B, & XHP35.
Visibility Beam Width Best: Klesh-2U > (Klesh-2P, DBAL, Baldr Pro, LAS/TAC2, X400, GTL21)
Blinding vs Players: XHP35 > Klesh-2U > LAS/TAC2 > Rest are similar until worst (XC1)
General Recommended Best = XHP35 Flashlight & WMX200.
Best Single-Item Combo Recommended = LAS/TAC2, KLESH 2-P, or DBAL.
Combo Recommendation for Flashlight + Laser = WMX200 + NCStar Blue Laser for Day Raids ( to ensure always have "point fire bonus" with flashlight on and off)
I've used flashlight w/ helmet on night factory before - very nice when trying to level up weapons that can't mount their own lights and feeling too broke for NVGs
Only thing I dislike is I have no idea how to turn it on/off :C
Its the H button^^
Trust tarkov to make us consider candela of a flash light
by the way the you can change the brightness of predetaor and ultrafire because they have 2 modes .. you should've include this in your test
WMX is a tight beam but still is visible from angle?
how do you turn off helmet flashlights in game? i cant figure it out
why is the steiner las/tac device considered a tactical device when it has no laser, it is just a flashlight like the others
can you use a tier list graph ?
It's not the flashlight strength that matters, its how you use it.
What about double flashlights?
Two big klesh gets too bright, but all the others can be good at keeping your visability but really blinding your opponent
Is the holosun integrated laser still bugged and not provide improved hip fire accuracy?
Yes
Wait, you can keybind more than 1 pistol at a time? Does he have them in his rig or something?
Yes, if they're in the rig. Or in the case of that tiny 1-slot revolver, in your pocket.
Enlightening
Ironsights meta confirmed
IR Device on helmets might be useful for night time.
Best flashlight is that yoy make from pringles and towel
how can we tell if the IR light is on without nightvision?
You can't without knowing the exact buttons and rotation of modes - wmx I turn on the flash light then swap mode = ir searchlight
Illuminating
Last wipe the xhp was the brightest and furthest "light"
You use the xhp35s to see further
I use the baldrpro because it matches gun colors
We are not the same
factory at night: light on helmet and use a ks23 or SVT
The only practical way of using helmet lights is going night factory with guns like svt
