This is one of my favorite shoulder workouts. It combines heavy compound movements and lighter, isolation exercises to build your shoulders to the absolute max. I even used this workout to get ready for the 2014 Mr. Universe competition. It's quick, brutal, and great for hypertrophy.
If you are the type of lifter who always wants to try something different, this is an excellent workout to mix into your rotation. Each exercise targets a different part of the deltoid: The presses primarily target the front delts, the upright rows target your traps and medial delt, and you finish by flying in to blow up your posterior delts.
Get your body and mind ready for this deltoid demolition. With all the sets, reps, and triple dropsets, your gym will look like a dumbbell graveyard.
| Warm-Ups |
The first two sets of behind-the-neck presses should be performed with light weight to warm up your shoulder joint and push some blood into your delts.
| Partner |
If you're ever performing a really heavy or max-effort set, it's good to get a spotter. If you can't handle the load, you need someone to help you bail it.
| Dropsets |
Dropsets are more art than science. They require some feel. Use your intuition to know when to stop. I don't like to stop if I can keep lifting.
| Music |
I wear headphones so people don't bother me, but I don't listen to gym music. Listen to whatever tunes help you focus on the task at hand. It doesn't matter if it's country or heavy metal.
| Partials |
If you get gassed, finish a set with partials. Get something from every rep! Don't give up on yourself.

Ironman yes it does so much! I had beats headphones with a cord and it always got in the way... Then I got the powerbeats and its way better and they are out of mind and out of sight

Dumbell military press 4x8-12+1 dropset

Behind neck press was my favorite after all my pro athletes doing it the right way still get injured. I ignored it because I felt invisible after 6 years of behind the neck press my rotor cuff finally is missed up. Be careful!

Don't press behind the neck like in the first exercise. It is not a normal movement. Risk to hurt yourself is too high

Dude, if you get pain on behind the neck press you shouldn't be pressing at all until you've improved on mobility and shoulder health.
Im going to assume he's more than willing to take that risk haha

I have shitty shoulder mobility and can do BTNP just fine. Full ROM too.
I think easing into it helps tremendously. I started with 65-ish % of my 3RM regular press for some very controlled triples, kept it below 75% for months. Highest intensity I've gone on it is 80% for a 8RM.
Honestly, flat bench have fucked with my shoulders way more more than BTNP.

+Skillica Yeah it's not the safest workout to do but it does work. Try leaning your head a bit more forward and keep the bar as close to your head as possible so you don't have to stretch your shoulders to far back
+Skillica Yeah same here. I can't do them. I also can't do the upright rows. My shoulders go "pop" on every rep. Once you have injured your shoulders they never get back to 100%. Pisses me off because my shoulders are one of my weaker points and I would love to kill them.
+Derek D yeah i broke my collarbone and have torn something in both of my shoulders. They never healed the same. My shoulders are my favorite part to kill tho just gotta be extra careful training
+Skillica Of course you do. It's one of the worst exercises you can do for your shoulder. Ask a physiotherapist why. Good luck with the recovery.

Its funny to see these giant hormonized dudes doing common exercises. A natural athlete that we all can relate too, just do a normal biceps curl, drink some vitamins and go to sleep!
