I have the strobe function on my headlamp and like many people assumed it was for signaling you need assistance. Good idea for animal deterrent and the logic behind seems to make sense. Typically I rely on bear spray for serious problem animals as it has the highest deterrent effectiveness.

Some report a pilot can see the strobe way before they can use their thermal image sensors, So makes sense to use it in misty stormy conditions, Because they can still see the cloud light up to direct them in faster to that location 3-4 miles out, Not much use in a desert in a sand storm tho, I think the camels would be fitting rolling around on the sand, Has anyone tried that technic out, Outside a shark cage in south africa with a 15ft white shark,? Please let me know
I just chased a coyote off 10 minutes ago on my nightly run with my flashlight. it doesn't have a strobe or need it. it doesn't even need to be that bright. it needs to be strong enough to smash stuff with though
Yeah coyotes are pretty skiddish. I used to use scare of the coyotes when they started to get close to my goats with my 1000 lumin. I could see their eyes glowing before they would turn away.
U was an Animal control officer for many years and that light could potentially work if it were dark enough to cause dogs pupils to dilated and then the flash of the light could somewhat temporarily blind or distract them enough to stop. Of course the dog has to be looking up at you and the flashlight, if he's looking down and targeting your delicious calf hes about to chomp on, he's not going to be very effected by the light. I tell you what works better. I used to carry for life of bitter words a shorter fatter cattle prod on my hip. And these were department issued weapons, 120,000 volt arc stun gun. I know they're making some of these flashlights, like the very same models as these strobes, that also have an arc type electrical tazer/stunner. And I used a larger version for many many years. I did not use the electrical charge to actually stun the animals, but the device did make a loud electrical crackling and popping sound, a loud pop pop pop with the electrical crackle. Some probably know what I'm talking about with the electrical sounds. even those lighters they have these days do it, to a lesser degree. But one of those letters will actually give you a nice little jolt, especially if you're not expecting it. But it's that sound, that sound stops them in their tracks every time. I would just pop it a couple times and then I'm able to literally heard them into a corner using the pops intermittently, to where I can actually capture them. That would definitely use that over the light, then you've always the option to actually make contact with the electrical charge at the animal does come forward and tries to attack or what not. But be fair warned, if it's a pitbull type dog, they probably won't feel it at all. they really don't feel anything when they're in their attack frenzy. But I've never had a pitbull come past that popping sound except once just to run past me because it was cornered other than that it just literally stopped them. there's nothing that is going to ignore that popping sound. that just gets them to snap to attention, ears up, alert, eyes wide open, like you hit the pause button on the remote. And their brain is trying to process what the sound could be. I also think it's instinctive to be fearful of electricity at least in its natural form which they probably can't tell the difference. ALL without ever touching them. I never even took it out of the holster. I would pop it while still at my side, and never even remove it. the sound is just that effective. I'd imagine it would work on other animals as well because it is a very noticeable, unfamiliar sound. believe me, you would notice it too and swivel around if you heard that popping. Oh the good old days! 👍
Use low brightness mode. That is also strobing but so fast your eye usually can't see it. The voltage is pulse-width-modulated, meaning no battery power is used during off time.
I think it's good for night walks, if someone is trying to do you harm, just switch on the strobe and run in the opposite direction of the beam. That guy will be to frustrated and disoriented to catch up with you if you put a constant beam on em
That strobe function would be much more valuable if you could turn it on with the first button push instead of cycling thru several clicks to get there.
Aloha Nikia! A strobing flashlight might give an epileptic mountain lion or bear a seizure...THAT'LL deter them!!😄😊(I've never heard of the strobe being used for that)...
Interesting thing about a strobing light is that if your going at high speed and have a strobing light on your head and it’s dark. You will see clearly at night. Weird I know. Try it on your bicycle ect.,
This was welcome information. I am glad I can have a ready tool bc I’m not inclined towards guns. On another note, what is the red light function on flashlights?
Your eyes adjust more quickly between red light and low light. So if your military and navigating in the dark, or a person using a telescope, looking at the stars or even looking for something in your car at night, you can look at something with a red light without blowing out your night vision, which takes about for 5 or 10 minutes to adjust back to full capacity.
As a bicyclist, my experience is that the pulsing light actually catches the attention of motorists. As a driver, I feel I notice a bicyclist easily when they have a flashing light on. But as a hiker, while sharing the trail with bicyclists I find the pulsing light extremely annoying. My recommendation is to use the pulsing front white light only while riding on the road.
I use them on my bike, 2 flashing Lux Pro LP830, 2 grab people's attention driving down the road, and 2 bigger lights @ night 2 light Up the green bike lane, I normally wear a lot of black, so I have flashers going front & back!!!
Rumors of some, but not so much in this corner of the state, but the mandatory shutdown by the state has curbed the spread. Any light over 800 lumens/and or 900 candela is blinding
The straight over 800 makes you not see at all
The strobe over 800 makes you want to trip on things
