  • The 3 mode flashlights well - suck. I will show you how to fix that. Not only that but they charge much more for the 1 mode ones. Technically they should be less! Please read my pinned comment below to Peter for a link to a better view of the repair.

Well, I jumped on this vid 'cause I have the same problem with those lights. Unfortunately the camera work is so poor I cannot make out what you did, what you soldered and where. A big still photo or an illustration might show that detail.

I totally agree. I have since got some better camera gear and put an illustration on my next video which should more helpful. Check the video link and go to 13:35. Thank you Peter for your input on that! ruclips.net/video/h9WLbyvdvwE/видео.html at 13:35

May I say - Thank you for thinking of my well being!!!! Yes I was hurt (knocked out in that burning truck while reaching for that dang trailer brake - like it would of helped at that time) (was unconscious after) Can't believe people stopped to get me out thru the rear pass window - what a blessing - but getting better daily so you will have to suffer for my content a bit longer... ;>)

Maybe watch a few videos by Big Clive, his special assembly for a closeup camera is excellent. He has a video explaining how he made it somewhere. Just involved a Tupperware and a camera phone if I remember correctly.

Nice :) I usually buy the ones that use the 18650 batteries, and they are from old drill/laptop batteries that don't hold the best charge, so I tend to use the med or low setting to get the most batteries life out of them. That is a great truck there. Had to be fun figuring it out. Great video Jeff!

I personally like the 3 modes i use the low mode for lighting up something I'm trying to read because the high mode is way to bright and it reflects on your eyes and you start seeing spots and i find the strob light is a good animal repellent and could also be used in a self defense scenario

I have a cheap light that always turns on to the brightest mode when I click the switch on..Then you can click it to the fancy stuff ..SOS and strobe ..I keep it on the work desk ..I have one that you have to keep pressing the button and it goes into strobe when I do not want it to It became a hassle to use it.....I keep that in my winter coat pocket ..My new EDC one is an led pen light that has just high and low and is my favorite one to carry

So how's the accident recovery coming?
Another good hack on the flashlights that have two AA batteries is to chuck them up in a lathe and hog out the barrel to hold style 123 batteries. Three 123s are the same length as two AA. Most of the voltage regulators handle the 9v just fine and they'll really increase the output and life of the flashlight.

I have a small fan with the same issue meaning one push of the button will high. next is lower, next is lower then final button push is fan off and small LED light on. Could I use the same idea to make this just fan on high, fan off. I would like to get rid of all the other modes.

I have the cree xml-t6 with two 18650 batteries I dropped it many times since I bought it about 5 years ago or more and it only broke down last week which I fixed it turned out that the tiny coil came off the board due to the ceramic body holding the copper wires snapped

You said that you can't bypass the circuitry because the voltage of the battery is too low. How do you think the circuitry alters that? I mean, it obvs doesn't have a transformer.

Much easier way is to just use a number 2 pencil and color or draw on the capacitor.. Done.. You may have to go over it several times but the graphite shorts it out causing it to not have memory..

I appreciate the time you.tool to make this video. You definitely have a good "on screen" presence with the voice and personality to match. Seriously great work.
I would however like to add some constructive criticism; as I'm sure you know the camera work definitely needs to be ironed out to provide clear and concise imaging of you work/content. Focus is absolutely imperative to convey the information you have in a way that even the average dingdong (like myself) can comfortably follow along.
Other than that this was damn good. Thank you, you have gained a subscriber.....
    Cheers mate

All modern flashlights are stupid like that and I totaly hate it, why are producers doing this? Flashlight needs on/off button which just turns it off and on, if there are some modes, it must have another special button, if not, such flashlight is completely useless. When it's 1-3W LED with 3xAAA or one 18650 cell, you can just bypass it everything and use resistor, but many today flashlights have 5 or even more watts (so having it on full power all the time would empty battery in few minutes) and using voltage which didn't match with batteries so you can't avoid that stupid controller board. I love old flashlights where bulb is just connected to + and - and that's all, unfortunately classic bulbs are too inneficient and fragily.
Another thing I hate about modern flashlights is 5000K or even more blue light, it makes no sense and you can easily buy led which has 2700 or 3000K, so why they still use these 5500K leds? I guess because of better ratio watt/lumen which looks better on box or something. But when you have flashlight with more warm light, it feels much better in night. Also, it uses PWM regulation of brightness, so it has stroboeffect when you set it to 50 or 30%, so it's useless again.
