I absolutely loved the dream sequences. They felt exactly like dreams, perfectly executed.
The dream where lost host teeth were spot on lmao- I lost it then
They give subtle answers and hints to the ending
I’ll never know why Tony saw himself when he walked in that diner. It’s like he was either dreaming, in a coma or dead already
Agreed best representation of dreams I ever saw, I mean mine don't make any sense IRL neither
@@Salamander676 in a coma and dying, or dead already depending your spiritual beliefs, but he was reliving his last day. Or his whole life. Maybe the whole show was his life flashing before his eyes. We’ll never know exactly, but it’s something to the effect of him being dead or dying, and seeing what happened to himself from an out of body perspective.
Fkin hated them and the boring physch sessions except when they went back to the 60s or 70s with his dad

The “Dream sequences” were truly artistic and original. David Chase didn’t get the credit he deserved
Agreed. it's good character development.
The most realistic dream sequences ever depicted--and I've seen a lot.

Yeap. Better the Twin Peaks dream scenes.
Very allegorical
spaceboy21100 *’Allegorical’* Great word
I thought the ending was perfect.
‘They say when it happens you don’t even hear it’
Eternal Mirth “if they’d been wise guys I would’ve have heard a thing. I would’ve been dead”
Also love how it ends right after Journey sings "don't stop".
I agree. I can understand how people would have been disappointed or confused during the initial viewing but once you start to unwrap it you realize it was a perfect ending for the show and in my opinion one of the best of tv history.
I was disappointed when I first saw it but I've come to appreciate it.
Although we are sympathetic to him Tony was a bad guy and he got what he deserved in the end. Him riding off in to the sunset wouldnt be as fitting.
I truly think a concrete ending would’ve caused even more contention than the ambiguous one. This way people can draw their own conclusion
The ending was amazing. One of the most uncomfortable scenes I've ever seen.
I agree, I liked the whole unpredictability of the ending. I didn’t want to see Tony get whacked or the FBI taking Tony behind bars. For me, it was perfect the way it was, especially for a character like Tony Soprano

@@manfrombritain6816 ah that kind of makes sense now.
I remember my heart was pounding and I was stressed the first time I saw it, thinking 'when and who will finish off one of my all time greatest characters', then the sudden blackness. Was kinda disappointed but in the end the open ending was the best and will be remembered for a long time.

just finished watching before coming here to find an explanation of the finale
Just finished the series for the 4th time and still get uncomfortable during the last 3-4 episodes when you see his crew get smaller and how everyone and everything around him is slowly getting destroyed. I always feel sad when the Journey song kicks in, knowing the end is near. The best TV show EVER.
Truly, re-watching right now
I just watched the entire series for the first time because Im quarantined, I was a kid when it aired originally. Im amazed at how relevant it is today! I didn't know anything about the ending before I watched it, but when I seen it I thought it was perfect. Like ripping off a band aid the end snaps you back to reality, and a sad satisfaction remains. Brilliant. RIP James Gandolfini
👍👍👍
Because you are quarantined? Are you one of these idiots who let the government tell you whether you can leave the house or not?
Too bad Tony wasn’t in this video
RIP James Gandolfini 1961-2013
That feels absolutely nuts that James Gandolfini was younger than 40 when the show started. I don't know it it's a 'The Sopranos' thing, or a him thing or what, but he just seemed so much older.
@@mattrobson3603 Let's be honest here: Lack of hair and body weight. That's why.
51 is way too young to go 😢
To me, the ending left us with the same uncertain feeling that Tony must have felt every day - Not knowing if he was going to live or die - Not knowing what could go wrong next. When you live that lifestyle, you're going to constantly be living with fear and anxiety - wondering when, not if, you're going to get killed or pinched. At the end of the show when it cuts to black, it leaves us wondering if Tony lives or dies, gets pinched, or if anything even happens at all. This is the panic and anxiety Tony felt every day, and it's why he needed to live the rest of his life on Prozac. He lived in constant worry, and that's the feeling the ending left us with. At least that's what I got out of it.
agree. i think that was the intent for why the ending finished like it did
Exactly. It was a comment about how his life was. Whether he lived or died on that particular night was irrelevant.
THIS is the best interpretation tbh. So many people seem so eager to believe that the ending was about Tony dying, and they point to the “clues” throughout the episode and series for why this is the case, but in the end we can never know. Trying to paint the ending as his death is too easy and I feel like it’s taking the easy way out
@@bryanzzz748 just as many clues that he could have succumbed to Alzheimer’s (hinted at during his coma dream) or gone to jail or flipped or wound up in a coma. The paths are all laid out in the final episode.

Especially in "Whitecaps"
AIMEN C I love Carmella, but I can’t stand Skylar.
Yes, she’s absolutely beautiful too. All the women in that show were awesome. Loved her and Adrianna!
She's hotter now than she was then
The dream sequences make this show so unique. It’s just one of the reasons it stands out among the pack .
Kept things interesting, felt like I was watching Eraserhead
The ending was perfect. The fact that people are still taking and arguing about it says it all.
Tbf, people still talk and argue about Losts ending. That wasnt perfect ahah
But the real unanswered question is how is Harpo doing?
Sacre Bleu. Where is me mama?
He's Hal now
Harpo was my favorite. I really wish they did more with that character.
Wonder where he’s eating dinner next Sunday
remember that song? HARPO’S SONG?!
In the final episode David Chase whacked us-The audience. And we never saw it comin'.
Brilliant. Never thought of it that way. 🤣We got whacked
Recently saw this theory for the first time.... love it.
That is a very nice perspective
We did get whacked but I think he was also trying to tell us we could get whacked in real life and might not see it coming. He was trying to remind us how precious life is.
I watched it when it was on HBO. I clearly remember DC saying in an interview, shortly before the series' end, that he was considering a continuation of TS's, possibly in a movie. I believe he wanted to keep all options open. He loved James Gandolfini and wanted to work with him again (and did, in "Not Fade Away"), but that dream died when Jimmy did. This interview was before that infamous final scene, and no one, even DC himself, anticipated how much discussion, debate, and deconstructing it would provoke. The prevailing idea, at that time, was that life went on for the Sopranos; we the audience was just no longer privy to it...
So in essence, your theory may be quite correct.
Edit: The fact David's now directing a prequel to The Sopranos shows that the "end" of TS was never going to be final...I myself still stand on the side of Tony continuing on with his life after "Made In America".
I think the dream sequences were some of the greatest attributes to the show!
Quinn Rollen agree
Funhouse has to be one the best dream sequences ever...
loved em
I love how Chase ponder the idea that sometimes dreams will tell you things you need to know, sometimes obvious others more secluded but you have to listen to them because they tell you things you would ignore otherwise.
The weirdness of the dreams were so realistic and authentic. I always felt lost in my dreams. I do things that aren't normal in real life, yet I behave like its very normal. And David Chase portrayed that feeling excellently, that I sometimes get dizzy, similar to when you have dejavu. A weird feeling. That's why nothing comes close to Sopranos.
The ending was confusing for a while but now I can see it makes absolute sense . I can't think of a more ingenious way to end this amazing and unique show.
I must ask since you are one of those people - what confused you about the ending? What wasn't clear or didn't make sense to you? Serious question, not mocking you.
@@timberwolfmountaineer873 For me i immediately assumed he was killed but considering there was no definitve proof i wasn't sure if it meant he died or life just went on with tony looking up at the door opening as some random stranger walked in

When you binge watch the whole thing, that ending is pretty good. It's the right amount of ambiguous plus it keeps to theme with the show's nature; most episodes just end, no big cliff hanger or massively profound revelation, it just ends, often quietly, like their lives continue on when we aren't there after the hour

“It wasn’t cinematic “…
15 Reason Why The Sopranos is the best Tv series of all time?
1- Best writers ever. (Characters, quotes, character arks, stories...)
2- Best directors ever. (These directors are best Hbo directors. So best tv directors same time.)
3- Best actors and real acting style ever.
4- Best music choice ever.
5- Best sound and editing ever.
6- Best cinematographies ever.
7- Best dark humor ever. (Better than many other comedy series!)
8- Best references and deep sub texts ever.
9- Best pilot episode ever an best final ever.
10- Best opening title ever.
11- Best final titles ever. (I think The Sopranos is the first TV series to put a different ending credits song for each episode. Am I right?)
12- Best sociopath anti-hero ever. (There are no other Tony Soprano and James Gandolfini on TV! Even in the cinema! He is a very unique character and a very unique character work!)
13- Best psychoterapy scenes and best dream scenes ever. (It's better than the dream scenes of "Twin Peaks". Because our dreams are not like dream scenes in Twin Peaks. Our night dreams or nightmares are always be like the dream scenes of The Sopranos.)
14- The best and most realistic mafia/ganster stories, relationships, conflicts, tensions, assassinations/whack.
15- The first TV series to bring cinema aesthetics to television.
16- Started Tv's Golden Age! (Without The Sopranos and Tony Soprano; then it would not have happened: The Wire, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Narcos, Dexter, House of Cards, The Shield, In Treatment, Entourage, Eastbound & Down, Louie, After Life, Weeds, Californication, Boardwalk Empire, Deadwoods, Damages, The New Pope, Rome, Tudors, Sons of Anarchy, Rescue Me and others ...)

@@PolishGod1234 Well, I'm not aware of any plot lines(even tho the show is largely character based and not plot based). Every time the bell on the door goes he looks up and you see what he’s seeing, some person entering the restaurant. There’s a space next to him for Meadow but Meadow is late parking her car. The camera follows the dodgy fella as he walks up and goes to the restroom. Why would the camera follow him if he wasn’t important? Next thing you know, bell goes, Tony looks up, and bam the screen is black. It’s black because he was shot by said dodgy fella. You see black because that’s what Tony sees. Thought it was pretty brilliant
Because of Bobby's comment "You probally don't hear it happen", i find the ending amazing.
Terrific show. Watched it then and twice over the years on iTunes. Simply the best!!
I still love the ending. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.
So good.
...
And the dream sequences? Well I love those too.
Edie Falco still hot as ever 😘😘😘
From a black woman lover ... she is
Yep, lots of plastics on her face. Freeze on the closeup and you will see. I love her!
@@kipper1885 hahahhaaha thats rough kinda love
I said that too!
When I first started watching the show she was a few years older than me. Now, I rewatch that show and go, 'wow, she's hot'. Beautiful and intelligent
"Would I've done anything different with the ending of the show? ... I don't think so" - Freakin' Genius!
I don't know how or why it's taken me until 2022 to finally start and finish this show. But the hype....is beyond deserved.
“Cayenne like the peppah!”
I thought about a boxer, but the Vette was more me.
Cayenne, like the Shinebox.
As a New Jersey resident, I’m proud to know this show was filmed in my home turf.
Same. Miss my state
To this day The Sopranos is the best show I've have ever seen. I Have the series, and I watch it once a year! I LOVE IT!
everam1191 why haven’t you watched The Wire?
@@SwordsmanRyan its probably good, but to me the Sopranos, then GOT.
@@everam1191 to me GOT is the best show ever then the sopranos but this season 8 after they killed the night king has been all crap I don't even want to see the final ep
@@marvinallen7117 you shouldn't be in this conversation. I watched GOT highly disappointed. They should have ended in season 4. Sorry.
watching sopranos for the first time right now. born in 1997... still outstanding
Having finished the Sopranos finally after like 9 months, I'm loving these videos on YT. Really makes me appreciate the actors, filmmakers and highlights even more
That ending was perfect. People who don't understand it don't deserve the show.
I love you James, miss you. The intro of the show is so awesome, that I fins myself watching over and over. I had family that lived in New Jersey. I know all about the New Jersey turnpike. Watching the beginning is awesome.
I’ll tell you guys what happened in the end: The screen cut to black because someone turned the lights off in the restaurant. That’s all. A bit later they turned them on again and it was no big deal.
igloo productions Tony’s brain went from
100 - 0 pitch black
I love that!
I personally think it was two black guys that jumped him in the end
It was the man the members only jacket...just like the godfather. Goes into the bathroom retrieves a gun n kills Tony!
20 years later people still talk about that ending. If you really sit down and dissect the episodes leading up to it & keep an open mind as to not letting what you want to happen and just let the ending play out, it’s absolute perfection.
the dream sequences are why i think this show is so unique, its a window where u can see tony's true feelings and soul and they are so well done in many aspects
I loved the ending. The entire audience got whacked with Tony.
Evan Belisle tony deserved it
Mateo Montoya what would you have rather seen?
I just finished the series two days ago, and I have to say it’s such an amazing series! I can’t wait for the prequel🤗
Yup. The fact his son is at the perfect age to play a young Tony Soprano is just freaking unbelievable. I'm giddy with excitement
The prequel movie just did not work. There was no chemistry, the writing was bland too.
"Sopranos trained viewers to learn to be ok with being a little confused" - hm, I would say Twin Peaks did that. With that said Sopranos still is the greatest show of all time
Best tv series ever . Frank Vincent stole every scene he was in ; just a phenomenal actor . I loved Paulie and Tony - Gandolfini was an inspired choice to play the boss . The ending was easy to understand . Tony's POV ! Again , brilliant . Because when you go , It's all just darkness .
I feel like season 6 ep1 Home Movies the scene where Bobby and Tony are on the boat together at the lake house gives the best explanation for the ending. They are talking about getting older and in their line of work you end up dead or in jail and Bobby says “ I bet you don’t even hear it when it happens huh?”
You had to be old enough to remember when the show finally ended. So many people were confused and thought there was an issue with HBO. They called in droves angry, thinking they missed the last few seconds of the series finale lol.
