Welcome to our in-depth review of Ubuntu 23.10, codenamed Mantic Minataur! This release brings a unique and captivating experience to the Linux world, and we're here to showcase the exciting changes. While most Linux distributions may appear similar, Ubuntu is evolving to establish its own character and identity, moving beyond the signature orange-themed GNOME interface.
In this video, we explore the noteworthy features of Ubuntu 23.10. First, we delve into the tiling assistant extension, a small yet significant addition that enhances window organization. With corner snapping and a clever window management system, you'll appreciate the improved multitasking experience.
One of the highlights of this release is the all-new app center. Built on Flutter, it offers blazing-fast performance and a clean, minimalistic look. We'll also introduce Luxe, a feature-rich note-taking app, coded in Flutter, and encourage you to check it out.
While the app center shows promise, it still has room for improvement, with a few alpha-stage quirks. Nevertheless, it's a significant step in the right direction.
We'll also cover the firmware updater tool, another Flutter-powered addition, which adds responsiveness and speed to your system updates.
Mantic Minataur also introduces GNOME 45, with enhancements to user experience, desktop aesthetics, and quick settings. Discover the new pill-shaped workspace switcher, keyboard shortcuts, and control over your keyboard backlight, all designed to improve your workflow.
We'll dive into the changes in background app management, offering visual feedback and improvements in GNOME's window manager, mutter. Nautilus, the file manager, receives updates for a more refined sidebar view and faster performance, including a new "search everywhere" feature.
Ubuntu's settings menu gets a facelift with a sidebar and new pages for privacy and sharing settings. The "system details" button reduces clutter, and you can easily copy technical information. Customization gets a boost with dark mode support across all apps.
While Ubuntu 23.10 brings many updates, it retains compatibility with older GNOME apps, making for a smooth transition.
Lastly, we'll discuss the kernel update to 6.5, bringing support for the latest hardware and performance improvements to the table.
Join us on this Ubuntu journey, as we explore Mantic Minataur's fresh look and feature enhancements. Share your thoughts in the comments and don't forget to check out the Luxe note-taking app mentioned in the video's description. Enjoy the ride through the world of Ubuntu 23.10! 🚀🐂 #Ubuntu23 #ManticMinataur #LinuxReview #OpenSource #LinuxDistro

The app amberol you installed is probably the snap version, packaged by Alex Murray, and the flatpak background portal didn't add support for snaps and extensively rely on some primitive tech, like counting the number of windows and matching their appids, which is not a very good way to go.

I would recommend for you to wait until Ubuntu 24.04 is released next year since you'll be able to update to the next LTS with the update tool once it's well tested and ready
