Shit (the way we say it in Canada) does rhyme with shirt said in dialects of English that have r-deletion in coda position of syllables (most British dialects have this). Bartender here, batenda in non-rhotic dialects.

Another self-certified linguistics nerd here. I find it really interesting how some pairs of words only rhyme in some accents. Even in my non-rhotic English accent, I still pronounce "shit" and "shirt" with different vowel sounds, so I wouldn't have thought of them as rhyming words. But I've just gone and looked up the technical definition of a rhyme, and turns out there are lots of different types. "Shit" and "shirt" would fall into the category of a consonance rhyme, because they have the same consonants but slightly different vowel sounds. Thanks for reading my ramblings :3
@@raven4879 ya it definitely depends on the scope of "rhyme"; however, with too narrow of a scope (like the most possibly narrow), a word could only rhyme with itself!

Honestly As someone who grew up emo in the “glory days”, that was a really dark part of my life. To hear a really upbeat song about those times (mind you I recognize that my experiences aren’t universal) it feels kind of funky like this doesn’t apply to me at all and I think that’s where a lot of the attitude for like the “Disney pop punk” comments are coming from, because it’s lacking nuance. I’m not a prince or princess of the glory days fam, if anything I’m a bedraggled raccoon that fell out of the trashcan of life. It honestly reminds me of Fuck You Over by The Summer Set, which I enjoyed that song so I mean the style isn’t the worst. You’ve just gotta get a little more nuanced, and maybe lay off the bleach a lil bit. Really wish you the best, god knows the music industry is a tough one to crack

I don't wanna gatekeep but it's really clear that a lot of the people criticizing your song are new to the emo scene and I heard it and immediately thought it sounded like the kind of shit emos were crazy about like 7-9 years ago
