Thanks for sharing this very helpful information. Much appreciate. The step-by-step quantitative test/compare procedure is what a Sr. engineer will do 😃
Thanks for all the info on this gen set. Because of your videos, I am happy to know I have the new unit in my 2022 AF 990. Subbed! Please do a follow up video with your resonator I stalled and your thoughts on it. The quieter the better!
It's actually a lot quieter than my Honda EU2200i. I'm tempted to sell the Honda because I like the Onan sound better than the Honda. The Onan is quieter after I added the resonator. Check out that video too.
I have 2021 wolf creek 840. I was wanting a portable. However the model I got already had the Cummings on board. Really like it not that loud. It might be same model
Does yours have the slotted vents on the cover like this one? If your camper was built within the last 6 months, I would suspect is has this same generator. The OLD style had a black vent panel insert in the green door.
@@deltabravo1257 next day I'm off work. I'll try to remember to check. I believe it was built March 2021. I hit sub button. We are in Northern Michigan. Variety channel here. Nice info have a great day
The only changes I made were for the Propane connections and DC Battery cables. I needed a longer propane hose. I think the original was 18". I am pretty sure I installed a 24" hose. If I recall correctly, the battery cables were longer than necessary, so I pulled some of the length back into the camper and resealed to holes were they went inside. ALSO, the mounting bolts are on a different footprint, so new holes need drilled. Other than that. it fit.
The upgrade was not planned, because this genny was meant for my Nash 17k. I abruptly sold the 17K so this genny needed a new home. It was definitely worth the upgrade. I love this generator.
No issues at all, though I didn't run it much last year. I stayed in an RV park on the long trip I took because it was so scorching hot and I needed A/C all day. Usually I remote camp and don't need A/C.
How would you rate time to swap units? Any gotcha moments? have you sold the old one yet... wondering what sort of market there is. Mine has so few hrs like 13 I think basically new just .. loud
I sold my old generator about 2 months ago for $2600 to another AF owner. Redesigning the mounting for the new one was very time consuming. The generator mounting holes were not in the same location as the frame cross members that the generator needed to be bolted to. The frame members were not even lined up for the old generator either, Northwood simply drilled through the cross member and into the base pan of the generator with self tapping screws instead of using threaded bolts to use the proper mounting holes on the old gen. The new generator did line up with one frame cross member, but not the other one. I cut some large thick pieces of aluminum to make an offset mounting adapter plate so I could use the proper mounting holes in the new gen. That was the only major "gotcha" moment. There were several minor issues: The original 24" propane line was 2" too short. I replaced it with a 36" I am still dealing with the exhaust pipe. Had I kept the pipe from the old generator, this wouldn't be an issue. The pipe I am using temporarily is from a travel trailer. It doesn't drop down low enough.
In order to do a fair noise comparison you'll need to put the same loads on both gen sets - The new inverter generator runs at lower rph when unloaded. Thanks
The new gen runs at a lower RPM when under load too. The old gen runs at a constant 3600 RPM. The sound of the new gen doesn't change much when various loads are applied.
I have a pair of Battleborn Lithiums. I love them: ruclips.net/video/z1nuP0SKGqU/видео.html I don't have any plans for roof mounted solar because i camp in the shade almost all the time.
I’ve been trying to buy One of these generators for months with no success Where did you get this generator from? Any help on where to purchase this thing would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Here is a brief video of my experiment with temporarily installing the resonator over the tailpipe of my older 2500LP to compare the sound. ruclips.net/video/NQEtWhQr8ps/видео.html This was not very scientific but it works to eliminate the "poot-poot" sound in the exhaust. People who have installed it on the 3600/4000 models say it does very little to nothing on those models. In this video you can see the resonator after I installed it. ruclips.net/video/pmrSYhydtjg/видео.html Please be sure and support your tailpipe so it doesn't break off on you or damage something.
Would you mind doing a spreadsheet with all your numbers and distances? What is ambient no generator DB? Have you ever seen used a honda Inverter say a 2000, or 3000 gen, how would you compare to the onan? If I'm not mistaken your numbers are 10 DB drop inside... WOW that's impressive. I just picked up a 2017 AF with the same loud gen you have and wife was like yeah that's a loud genny .... Ah... well .. I know of a option LOL
I never thought to get a sound reading without the generator running. I have a Honda EU2200i that I also use. I will probably use it as my primary generator when I want very little noise when inside the camper. What I typically do is park the generator either behind the trailer I tow or in front of the truck. I barely hear it when I do that.
So. Arctic fox, in their infinite wisdom, mounts the generator with self taping 1/4 screws directly to the metal mounting frame. Why they don't use the bolt holes the generator has is beyond me. I watched a video of a guy who used some isolation blocks from scamazon. Holy hell. What a difference those made yo my generator. It was a whole new experience in my truck camper
I'm not terribly impressed with Northwood's mounting technique either. They drill holes through the frame cross member in the generator compartment. Then they keep drilling into the base pan of the generator, making NEW holes, and then like you saw, they use self tapping sheet metal screws. I can't help but think drilling new holes will give Onan/Cummins an excuse to void the warranty. The above is how my original non inverter generator was mounted. When I got my new quiet model inverter generator (shown in this video) I made aluminum adapter plates to line up with the threaded generator holes, and drilled more holes in the plate which also lined up to the original holes in my cross members. I was NOT willing to drill new holes in the generator base pan. On the new truck campers I saw at the RV show last weekend, Northwood was using some small cheap looking angle brackets to adapt the threaded holes to the cross members, but I can envision that causing a lot of vibration. I wasn't impressed with this mounting technique either. The brackets they used looked like the brackets that Onan/Cummins uses to secure the generator tot he shipping pallet they build for each generator.
for silent battery charging, solar is perfect, but since I camp in the shade most of the time, I can't justify the expense of solar since it won't do much for me.
Here's a sound test with the Onan/Cummins resonator installed: ruclips.net/video/Z6zLCrwBDAY/видео.html
The resonator works awesome. Put one on my old model Gen in my bigfoot truck camper.

Thanks for the sub! I am definitely planning on a video with the resonator installed.
Here it is with the resonator: ruclips.net/video/Z6zLCrwBDAY/видео.html
where is the URL for the next video with the new resonator you showed at the end of the video?
I just now added it to the end of this video. It was never there before.
Here it is also: ruclips.net/video/Z6zLCrwBDAY/видео.html
That’s extremely loud still, for campgrounds courtesy it should be 53 dbs under load

Can't wait to see what the Db looks like with a Onan Exhaust Resonator P/N 0155-2449 installed? I bet it takes it down another 10 Db if not more.
Video footage has been shot, but I need to get the video edited and uploaded.

Good quality content exactly how I would do in own video. Very scientific.
