Thats some nice paint on that wall.....whew!
Getting a winlink email out is one of the first things I try whenever I am settled in at a hotel.
Yes sir. I had my 817 kit with me as a backup just in case I was out of 2M range. Not quite sure how I would have strung up 67' of wire in the room though 8-)
Nice demonstration.
Hey cool, I just picked up that Waveshare box as well. I am using it for my wspr beacon. 73 from cold Vermont. KC5CNT
Real world use, nice 👍👏👏
Thank you for sharing, that is a pretty cool setup you have. Like how it all fits in a small bag. 73s
Thanks for watching!
any chance you have a video showing how your cell phone connects to the pi? i see a gps dongle attached to it and i guess a battery pack under the pi. then the mobilink tnc connects to the pi bia bluetooth you said. Interesting and very compact kit.
I am using a hotspot running on the Pi. ruclips.net/video/WqyPgj3cDKE/видео.html
Excellent!
Nice demo. Were you seeing APRS beacons of the winlink stations in the area? That would allow operating without an preloaded database of stations.
I might could have check the heard stations list on the radio but chose to use the list on the pi instead since it was readily available. That list also contains the HF list if I needed to break out the 817.
WH6BL (Matt) here. I have a FT-5D, laptop, and Signalink box for the FT-5D. Can the Signal link take the place of a Raspberry Pi? What are the FT-5D settings for Winlink? I cannot find this information anywhere.
Nothing specific to radio settings that I can think of since packet/vara fm both use FM. Just be sure to turn off APRS before attempting a connection or it could TX and interfere with the Winlink connection.
The Signalink & laptop should work fine without needing the Pi.
Very nice! I need to build one now! Do you have a video on the parts besides the radio?
I don't have a video on this particular setup. It is a custom install that I built a while back and still has some bugs to be worked out. You can do the same things with a Pi 3/4 using Build a Pi for the installation and skip the bugs in this design :-)
Jason, do you have an Amazon link for the GPS you're using?? Great vid as always.
This amzn.to/3gRTYj0 (affiliate link) is the one I was using in the video. Works great but the cable is a bit to manage. Wish it were half as long.
Very nice Jason, you had a bnc connection, what type of antenna did you have connected?
Is this possible using an iPhone or iPad?
I was using a Nelson antenna roll up Jpole which I picked up off of eBay several years ago. I have changed some of the components but the majority of the bag is the same as in this video ruclips.net/video/5saYaafNjOw/видео.html You can use any wireless device with this setup. iPhone, Android, or a tablet would all work. The pi is doing all of the heavy lifting. The wireless device is just being used as a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
Could you comment, or maybe make a video on the pros to using Winlink as your daily email? I notice you alway have WInlink with you even when you have internet on your phone.
I don't use Winlink as my daily email but I like to have the capability with me most of the time. There has been more than one instance where I needed to communicate via email/text but didn't have cell phone service. Key for me is having a compact kit that can easily be thrown into a backpack. If it's too big, I don't want to carry it everyday.
@@KM4ACK thank you sir
Are you connecting your phone to the Pie rather than direct to the Mobilink? Great set up. Thanks.
8P6RC
Yes. I connected the phone to the Pi via a WiFi hotspot generated by the Pi. Then I connected the Pi to the mobilinkd.
@@KM4ACK Are you using VNC or something else to see the RPi on your phone ?
Patwinlink?? I can not find any apps for Winlink (Android) or PATwinlink? Help?
Pat Winlink runs on the Pi. I was using my phone to connect to the Pi. For Android, check out WOAD
@@KM4ACK Thanks man
Why not just use the WoAD app on Android and then the Pi isn't even needed
That would work as well. Now if they would only release that for iOS :-)
@@KM4ACK That would be great. It's always very nice to see some new development, helps make kits smaller and more compact.
Hey jason. What app are you using on the iPhone? Looking a t getting started on aprs and winlink. Thank you for the help. Kq4cid Justin TN
I opened the Pat Inbox in a browser on the phone. Pat is actually running on the Pi though. Not the phone. Currently, on WoAD will run Winlink on a phone but it is Android only. ruclips.net/video/X0SyJ0cj4ho/видео.html
