  • Winnipeg Fire Department's new Squad 101 responding down Portage Avenue in Winnipeg to a medical call. These vehicles have been in service for a couple of months now, but this is my first good catch of one. Enjoy!

Nice catch! Interesting, looks like they forwent the third side light in favour of the rear lightbar. Sharp looking rig nonetheless!

Good spotting, I didn't notice that until you mentioned it. I think it looks sharp too, very unique for sure. Thanks Jimmy!

Not sure what the idea of the second Light bar is but it’s cool

Maybe they wanted to make sure the light bar was visible from the back, since it's such a tall vehicle the single light bar at the front isn't easily seen from the back. That's the only thing I can think of, I like the look of them! Very unique.

Did you catch the what look to be a tree fire that had 3 engines 1 ladder and 2 chief go to it today?

You should tell us what is the reason of this new truck?

They replace vehicles after a certain amount of time/operational hours. Winnipeg's Squads are used mainly as a medical response vehicle, backing up ambulance crews. They are staffed by firefighter/paramedics and respond to all the same sorts of calls as fire trucks do.

@@LiamPattisonPhotography so basically they respond with engines or rescue engines like LA County Fire but made their rigs look beefier.

@@emvvehicles_8 Sort of yeah. Although it is usually just 1 Squad or Engine responding alongside the ambulances to medicals rather than multiple fire units, but that of course depends on the severity of the call.
The Squads are equipped with some firefighting tools such as extinguishers and forcible entry tools. They have a patient compartment inside for patients to stay out of the elements while waiting for a medic unit, but the Squads have no transport capabilities.
