While that may work for say small cars. SUVs and trucks could cause damage to the fire truck. And fire trucks need to be kept in tip top condition because the last th3you want is something to go wrong with the truck. That is why every shift change the designated driver of a certain truck must perform a number of checks.
They should do what is done in several countries: No parking for any reason near a fire station. Bright red lines, immediate removal of the vehicle, and a big fee to get it back.
Absolutely shocking. In the UK when you hear a siren you automatically get out of the way when your driving. Some people are clueless. Someday it might be them that need help
@bradsmckay seriously! Whenever I hear a siren in my city (in Southern California), my head starts going every direction trying to locate that vehicle.
We had a large snow storm out in Colorado last winter. One country road in particular was full of stuck abandoned vehicles from the snow. The county literally brought out a loader and pushed all the cars off the road to let emergency services though. It was epic to see the carnage 😂😂 FYI, it was a storm that was well warned about and people were told to stay home. One of the few storms that I actually opted to stay in. I have no issues driving in the snow. But not this one.
In most European country’s it’s illegal to prevent an emergency service from reaching its destination which includes blocking they should try it in America, probs get loads of protests
One of my students with special needs had a prolonged seizure at school. The seizure plan was followed and the ambulance was called. Unfortunately, the call was made just prior to dismissal time and the car lane was full with waiting caregivers. First responders had difficulty getting other parents to move their cars to allow the ambulance in. In addition, the student’s parent worked close by (arrived at about the same time as EMS) so she witnessed fellow parents’ resistance to moving. 🥺🥺
These firefighters should have permission to ram every single one of these cars, and the driver should have to pay out of pocket to repair every last penny of damage. No insurance allowed
Let me guess, "I will be in and out, it'll just take a minute," was their reason? I hear it all the time. These are the people that should be denied emergency services when they call for them.
Here in NZ our fire service is authorized to push the vehicles out of the way in those situations. Same if cars are parked on both sides of the road impeding movement. They have, on the odd occasion, just driven the fire engine down narrow roads where illegal impedment often occurs and scraped past cars to ensure they are not impeding the way...
Yep same Sydney Australia 58 cars written off as the fire trucks cleared the road in Balmain to get to a double house fire. Now it's legal to park on that roads footpath. As the roads only the width of a car with both sides parked. Its legal life over money insurance paid.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 that's the key though. they are authorized to do it. we would need laws authorizing the fire depts to be able to do it, and i don't see that ever happening because of insurance companies lobbying against those laws.
I was on a class trip sometime in the 70’s and saw a FDNY CF Mack in lower Manhattan with a truck tire chained to front bumper.. he was bumping the taxis that would not get out of the way. Never have forgotten that scene.

One of the best former volunteer, now paid, fireman I know.
Those violators should be criminally charged with felonies if anyone gets so much as a scratch because help couldn't get there due to some jerks selfishness. Also make it legal for FDs to push you out of the way. Our department pushed cars parked in fire lanes and the courts were behind us back in the day. Now courts sympathize with criminals over those who respond to help society.
If someone gets hurts or dies the person operating the cars/trucks that was in the way in route should be charged with attempted or criminal homicide!!!!
That's way too much. Be aware of what you're saying here. That rule must then be thrown across the board and you can get charged with stuff you weren't even aware of.
A homicide charge would not stick. However, article 195.15 of the New York penal law covers obstructing firefighting operations. Perhaps if people were hit with that charge, the point would get across.
I mean, it depends, alot of the time in NYC theres so much traffic that theres no where to go, but these fools, like the van and teh truck are just retards who should get there licenses revoked
That's incredible...just unbelievable...the indifference to emergency vehicles in big cities is unreal...my dad told me when I was learning to drive, pretend they're going to your house, get outta the way!
Absolutely no way I’m going to try and justify what the delivery truck driver did but just know that it can be an absolute nightmare trying to find a place to park in big cities and if you’re on a tight schedule it can be too tempting to block a fire lane or in this case a whole street. Businesses often do not accommodate the vehicles delivering their supplies in their parking layouts. Again, fire department more important but you’d be surprised how unpleasant parking a large vehicle can be.

Just because these people are in New York, it does not give them the right to park their vehicle on the middle of the road. These people need to learn to have more respect for first responders. Yea because when they parked they knew they'd be blocking a fire truck it's new York there's park especially if your driving a big ads delivery truck, it's real easy to judge from the outside
People in NewYork with respect ? 😂 That will never happen. I drive a 70 Ft Tractor Trailer through these streets. Let’s just say I don’t go to NYC anymore. “I Hooked up a chain to an idiots car and pulled it down the street out of my way after waiting for a half hour for someone to come out that was double parked” 💪🏼
I think I saw somewhere that a company (maybe Westin or Setina, the guys who make pushbars for LEO vehicles), are developing a special bumper for fire and EMS apparatus, the front of it is supposed to be soft enough so that the driver of the apparatus can move/push an obstacle out of the way without damaging the truck or other vehicle/obstacle. I wonder if it will ever go through 🤔
My question is why worry about damaging the selfishly parked vehicle.......just push it and damage it, it may make them Learn to be more considerate in future.
You know it's funny because where I live there will be like a million parking spots and people still choose to park right in the middle of the road like theyll park next to a spot and theyll still choose to park in the middle of the road it's like get into a freaking parking spot there's a million of them
I don't care what the noise ordinance is, I would stay on the horn til they come out. As for that person with the van, I would not have let that person off at all. Still ticket them. Look how long they had to wait there. They pretty much got cancelled in the end.
Very Interesting. In at least two of these clips, there was somebody sitting in the vehicle, but it still didn't move? BTW, where I live in Texas, we have different laws, not to mention much better bumpers on fire trucks.
@@tionytione4327 Absolutely, although departments shy away from this practice :/ Liability and what-not.. It's annoying. Maybe if people considered that they might be pushed out of the way and be held responsible by insurance, they would pay better attention to their surroundings.

I feel your pain brothers I'm on a volunteer department in a small community and still have issues on our roads and highways with people not moving over or yielding to my trucks
This is an educational video that is highly recommended by everyone who is driving. This is to help reduce the death rates caused by delayed response due to inattentive drivers who are not following the rules as discussed i the driver's handbook. Anyone should remember as they are getting their driver's license, it is NOT just as a privilege, but a responsibility that we all have and we must be committed to to remain safe drivers instead of risking the lives of others who are doing their part to help save lives.
Treat obstruction of Fire & Ambulance like a DUI. $10,000 fine, impound vehicle, driver school, loss of license, mandatory jail processing. People will learn to get their heads out of their A-holes.
In Michigan where I'm from, drivers pull over the min there hear the sirens coming. In New York they don't care. The trucks have a ram why don't there use it and the other drivers should have to pay for their own damages cause they park illegally
Wow, absolutely unreal! Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a ton of idiotic drivers in NYC? I'm in the midwest (Minnesota), and while the downtown areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't nearly as big as New York, our drivers understand how to pull over to the side even in busy traffic and let whatever emergency vehicles through. Heck, sometimes when I'm going by a stoplight that has its white light signaling when an emergency vehicle is coming through and there doesn't seem to be one coming, I will still stop and check to see and hear if one could be coming regardless because the operators of whichever vehicle they happen to be driving takes priority over everything with the lives they have to save!
When necessary, and when possible, they should be allowed to use the fire truck to push the car out of the way - and then send the driver the bill for any damage to the truck.
When a truck come out of the station to respond to a fire and they cant swing out due to some one parked in the way. Why doesnt the city make the area in front of the station a red zone so the engine can swing either right or left?
All trucks need dash cams to record everything and to get vehicles info the drivers of them vehicles need cited and automatic loss of license then maybe ppl will start to think twice Keep up the great work brothers and sisters of the fdny god bless
You know firefighters are almost like cops when they hand out tickets but instead of traffic violations they write out tickets for safety violations. I remember this one time where there was an emergency response at a restaurant and one of their exit signs did not light up red and they got ticketed over $2,000 because exit signs have to be lit up red so it can be visible.
Depending on the jurisdiction and the firefighter's certification or job title, they can issue citations. Typically, it is someone in the Fire Marshal's office. The guys on this crew may be writing down the plate #, VIN #, etc to send to the Fire Marshal or NYPD ... and that entity *might* issue a summons.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 I was a volunteer in a small town where I went camping and got to know the chief who wouldn't take the apparatus out of service even if he and his wife were the only ones in service so if a call came in he would have the group on the store deck if we wanted to go his wife was the paramedic first responder
That is NYC for you. In big cities, the fire department have it hard when streets are so congested that emergency vehicles can't get by? What also blocks emergency vehicles is railroad crossings and movable bridges such as drawbridges, swing bridges, and lift bridges, which it is really bad luck that the emergency vehicles are in the wrong place at the wrong time and get held up.
This is why they need laws for motorists to get out of the way instead of it being an option. All license holders should be made to drive 3 things before getting their license- a tractor trailer, a motorcycle and an emergency vehicle.
I feel as though emergency services should be allowed to just shove past vehicles that are obstructing the way since time is extremely significant to them
Get their license plate, report it to the police, and charge/sue the person for damages to the emergency vehicle!!! Impeding an emergency vehicle should be cause for terminating the person's driving privilege's!!!
So if the FDNY has the ability to write someone a ticket for blocking the road during an emergency call, why didnt they just write the guy a ticket once he showed up?
Thank you for showing the true meaning of stupidity and selfishness of some people that don't care about anything but there own convenience. And this is not only for fire trucks . It's also more so with ambulances.

OK.
Absolutely shocking. In the UK when you hear a siren you automatically get out of the way when your driving. Some people are clueless. Someday it might be them that need help
I HEAR YA! THANKS.
Yep, I live in Australia and any time I hear sirens my first thought is where the f%&k are they?
@bradsmckay seriously! Whenever I hear a siren in my city (in Southern California), my head starts going every direction trying to locate that vehicle.

We had a large snow storm out in Colorado last winter. One country road in particular was full of stuck abandoned vehicles from the snow.
The county literally brought out a loader and pushed all the cars off the road to let emergency services though.
It was epic to see the carnage 😂😂
FYI, it was a storm that was well warned about and people were told to stay home. One of the few storms that I actually opted to stay in. I have no issues driving in the snow. But not this one.
OH WOW! THAT IS WILD! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
And in 2020 we now know how effective it is to tell everyone to stay home. LOL

In most European country’s it’s illegal to prevent an emergency service from reaching its destination which includes blocking they should try it in America, probs get loads of protests
@@SierraDelta- it's illegal here too bro, lol
well the reality is there are selfish people everywhere.

That's insane! Was the student ok?
@@mikeserot1410 Yes. She was okay. I don’t remember if she was admitted or able to go home after being treated in the ER.
These firefighters should have permission to ram every single one of these cars, and the driver should have to pay out of pocket to repair every last penny of damage. No insurance allowed
I THKN SO TOO.....THX.....
They should get extremely high fines for this behaviour!

COOL! HOWEVER HERE THAT TYPE ACTION WOULD A VERY BIG PROBLEM FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND CITY! THX.

@@SK-tr1wo So is your assumption and negativity. Did you research this and find this to be factual? Show me your homework on this. And if you can show me it, well I have nothing more to say. So is my former volunteer friend, that is a New York City fireman for at least 10 years now, ruining the fire service in New York? The answer is no. He is smart, and an asset to the fire service.
YES INDEED! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
That's way too much. Be aware of what you're saying here. That rule must then be thrown across the board and you can get charged with stuff you weren't even aware of.
So many people die of inane bullshit and you would have so many innocent people in jail over this
A homicide charge would not stick. However, article 195.15 of the New York penal law covers obstructing firefighting operations.
Perhaps if people were hit with that charge, the point would get across.
Life in prison for being in the way of a fire truck. That's a fantastic suggestion. We should implement that everywhere and justice will be served.
I think If u get in away of emergency Vehicles you should get ur license taken and pay a fine

I mean, it depends, alot of the time in NYC theres so much traffic that theres no where to go, but these fools, like the van and teh truck are just retards who should get there licenses revoked
should be a $2000 or more fine.

I wouldn't say manslaughter, but rather negligent homicide.
10K flat rate… most people can’t afford it and businesses are cheap. So people would be more cautious about doing it
That's incredible...just unbelievable...the indifference to emergency vehicles in big cities is unreal...my dad told me when I was learning to drive, pretend they're going to your house, get outta the way!
I HEAR YA.....IN THE BIG CITY IT CAN BE VERY DISTURBING NAVIGATING THROUGH OUR STREETS DUE TO MANY MORONS ON THE ROAD.....THANKS SO MUCH JIM.....

IDK BUT THX.

I never knew firefighters in New York had ticket books, makes sense
