IDK about you since I'm 5 seconds in but I've had my BEACN Mic+Create for a few weeks now and I"m loving it. I've had some very minor issues, nothing drastic, and all easily fixed with a quick message in their Discord. I went from a Yeti and instead of going XLR I went with BEACN and I'm honestly happy I did. My user experience is so fantastic that I'll probably never upgrade unless it's to another BEACN product. Amazing value and great support. Your videos helped a ton too!

"Software" being both points 1 (best) and 5 (worst) is a perfect reflection of software as a whole. It's *so* hard to get software right, and especially if you're releasing updates often there's more chances of things breaking.

  • @captainkrk88
    @captainkrk88 Год назад +15

Coming back to say they have upgraded software even more. Now when it comes to the sources and the mixer, no longer do you need to go into windows audio to change sources. Now you can literally just drag and drop sources into different channels right in the mixer app. It's fantastic.

I have the mic and the create. The software is extremely buggy. When it works, it's the best. I don't think I could go back to something else at this point because I've seen what is possible. Now if it could just be possible with closer to 100% up time, that would be perfection.

Hoping to keep tweaking it as I go. and so far no crashing that Harris has mentioned. Thanks for putting me on to this Alpha and Harris.

Thanks for your thoughts! 99% agreed. What I miss most is a dedicated mute function which really mutes the mic on a hardware level. Right now it's just a global mute over windows while the amps etc still keep running.

One thing to the last point. Because they're often adding new things at this rate, stability will keep fluctuating. It's part of the early adoption tax from a fresh team and ambitious team. You see this often with open source programs too. In the long run this will not be a bad thing. In fact, it often lead to stable and reliable consumer standards like Audacity or OBS.

  • @TicketsTom

I'm glad you spoke about the software being buggy. I watched so many reviews before purchasing, and none mentioned this before. If I'd known it would be as buggy as it has been, I would have waited.

That’s what influencers do. They don’t let us know about the bad stuff. GoXlr was plagued with shitty solutions, build quality and buggy software too, and quite honestly, pretty toxic support at times. Now it looks like some of the same devs are behind this lookalike of a mic and peripherals. I wouldn’t hold my breath with devs like these.

Can we get an update on this soon? I'm curious to see what kind of progress they've made on the software issues since this video came out in May. It's been almost another 4 months and I know the BEACN team has pushed out a ton of updates. I think there is one about every 2 weeks. Until the crashes stop, I just can't justify dropping this kind of money on a setup.

  • @Stalker2delta

I wont lie, picked up the BEACN Create/Mic and I've only been using it for 24 hours at this point. Watched a handful of reviews and talk to a few people, but I tend to trust the Alpha Gaming channels judgement. So when I saw this video, my butthole slammed shut and I was just praying I hadn't made a huge mistake. I've noticed a few things with the software that feel like bugs, and like yourself, am trying to maintain a degree of optimism that things get sorted.
All in all, pretty happy with things at the moment and wishing the people at BEACN the best.

i got the Beacn mic and mix create as soon as i could, so ive had it for abt 2.5 months
at first the software would crash 100% of the time if your pc goes to sleep, some features straight did not work at all and there were various other crashes and problems as well.
i was active on their Discord and reported the issues to their team and everything has been updated and fixed.
so i fully have confidence that if you complain constructively they 100% will fix any software problems.

I ended up buying a mix create after watching some videos on it. I absolutely love it. The amount of control I have over my audio is insane. It's also super simple as well. After I watched Beacn's tutorial. lol But, like you said. Because it's still such a new product. There are bugs with the software. Thankfully fully closing & starting the software again fixes whatever was wrong. Some more customization would also be nice in future updates. Like being able to control the brightness of the buttons & screen would be really nice if possible. Or someone else mentioned the ability to change the theme of how info is displayed on the device. Overall, I'm happy with it.

I have the mic and the mix and although there are some bugs, I am extremely happy with the decision to switch. For someone who has no clue about audio and being on a 2 PC setup my audio with the go XLR mini and a horrible yeti blue mic was confusing, frustrating, and could never get it to work properly. This new setup I had some trouble setting up at first just because of my own limitations and understanding of audio, but I went in the discord server and they answered my questions in less than a minute and had me up and running in no time. If you are like me, have no clue about audio, this setup is amazing.

The beacn mic being behind the shure sm7b is really good, because you're getting maybe a 20% cut on general quality for a 1/3 of the price.
you'll need a stereo amp for the sure sm7b or a dedicated xlr input and that can go from $300-$2000, on top of the sure sm7b which is $400

  • @ChrisTitusTech
    @ChrisTitusTech 2 года назад +7

I really hate how the beacn mic sound. The plosives are terrible with that mic. Possibly a wind screen or better conditioning for the broadcaster might help, but the raw audio just doesn't sound very good imo.
SM7B, PR40, Electrovoice, all are better for XLR but for a direct upgrade for those that want USB - MV7 is lightyears ahead of the BEACN. Just my 2 cents

Honestly thinking my mic upgrade from the Rode Podmic/Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen will be the SE Dynacaster and probably a Wave XLR. Hearing it vanilla is such a clear sound for a dynamic (and will also sound great for singing as well as spoken word) and I'd love to see what I can do with WaveLink to account for the submixing.

Downsides are bugs yes but having it all in one is convenient, expensive yes but compared to a sm7b set up that i was looking into it is far cheaper. Not that I'm bigging up beacn as I'm sure the competitors as you say are cheaper, for me it was a good purchase for my requirements. We really need BEACN to create something to directly compete with the GOXLR. Something like a Mix Create with a good XLR mic preamp, good headphone amp, and line out/in and optical ports. Also, the ability to use all the good things in the software such as EQ, compression, noise gate, etc.
That’s where BEACN will be unrivaled is when/if they create a product with the same or better capabilities as the mix create and GOXLR combined.

If its possible, you can use the base balanced mic and use a different software if you want...like FL Studio.
Even as a music creating software, it makes mics sound amazing.

The mic and h/w are very nice, but it's just too much. I'm happy using my Elgato setup with my Reaper Plugins for my Wave Link software.
Awesome video tho. Good to see how far the kit can be pushed.

I have the Wave XLR + Podmic setup that I use on my mac. It's mostly been great. But I do get jealous of the intuitive UI on the Beacn, as I'm still learning and still don't know what all the audio controls do or how I should adjust them.
And I agree with your statement about software both being the best and the worst of this experience. It's great that new features are getting added and things are getting improved. For example, a little while ago, they didn't have proper M1 Mac support, but one could get it to work with a hack. That has since been fixed. But now there is some other issue which causes `coreaudiod` (the audio daemon on macOS) to gobble up all CPU, the audio to get distorted and sometimes it even crashes coreaudiod. Luckily, those can all be fixed by killing coreaudiod and the system will immediately restart it, and it will work again. But I'm hoping that issue will get fixed in a future update.

i agree with all of these, especially the software. i know they are working hard on the software but it is BAD rn. i have had the mic for over a month now and the bugs are frequent and the crashes are persistent. weirdly enough, getting a mix create stabilized things for me a bit. i’m hoping in the next 2-3 months they stabilize the software because it is one of the most unstable programs i have ever used right now lol.
still, i really love this mic / mixer and trust BEACN to come through. to anyone still interested in this company, i don’t think it’s a bad investment at all - it when it works it is amazing. it’s just more of investment in the future and a belief that things will work better down the line. and i certainly believe it.

I've had for about a week no problems so far...I use it with the revelator io24 and I use the mvmp mic from sure (usbc and normal mic)..I'd never buy the mic..it comes preloaded with so much compression and effects u can't take off

I agree with you totally, if there was only 1 point that i have to really complain about is how buggy the software is.
i use a blue mic and a corsair headset when im trying to be quiet and not wake my wife or son. when i switch from one source to the next. crashes 99% of the time.
when i have stream labs running and streaming, the software will randomly crash.
its frustrating, but i think its worth waiting it out to get them to resolve the issues. I am not using their mic, as stated before, but i was waiting for a review to do it, and i may just do that, I have alfull time getting background noises away on my blue mic.
    Thanks for the review!

I would love updates on the bugs and what not. I’m currently saving up to get this setup for streaming and content creation. Also thinking it’s better to wait so I don’t have to deal with the bugs since it is new lol

Lowkey about to buy this whole setup tbh. I have GoXLR and im like nah man, audio is all mixed up on my system cus I use 2 pc setup. This might help me and clean up the signal path and make it easier to control my audio haha

I have the mic and the mix. A few things I’ve found to have trouble with are solely on the mix. The mic is fine for me as I am just using it as a way to communicate with my teammate, not streaming. The mic will sometimes not even light up when I power my pc on. Almost as if it’s not connected. The second main issue is that some apps don’t stay connected, mainly the xbox companion app. It will disconnect and I cannot control the volume of my friends once it’s happens without restarting the whole pc.

Interesting, that you put their software on #1 & #5, as it is that, which I hate the most about the BEACN Mix Create. It crashes several times a day for no reason at all and last week I had five (!) crashes within a 5 hours stream, which was ridicolous. BEACN-guys are trying to help, but they cannot find the reason and this stuff goes on for months now. I love the Mix Create, if only the software would be more stable.

The mic for me sometimes trips out causing me to have to reset it over and over for some reason. But other than that I love it! I hope it gets fixed.

  • @doctorgamester

I got only the mic purely because the software has the audio channel controls built in if I want them. Software bugs might get in the way of this for some, but so far for me it has worked out about as well as anything else on my system.
The BIG benefit for me is that the noise suppression and EQ etc is all ON THE MIC. I don't have to rely on the software to be active once that's set in order to use the microphone on my PC or even take it to a completely different device that accepts a USB mic. In that sense, once I set it up, it "just works". Even on - get this - an iPad.
Of course for streams and content I enjoy the fact that I can still use the audio channel separation and routing even without having the mix hardware product. If the software was buggy for me there, I would probably have sought a different device to do mixing. But I doubt I would give up the noise suppression and EQ being saved on the mic itself.

Interesting that you are having those issues. I wonder if it's a factor of the amount of I/O versus a more standard setup. I haven't had it crash at all, but i only use the create and i have a quadcast hyperx. How much of the issue is maybe USB on the MB or underlying issues on windows.

Always enjoy your videos I did sent a tweet your way and was just hoping for comparison of this against wave 3 and razer siren mics. Would like to know your thoughts on what each meets certain needs, rating, with considering budget and pricing. I know that seems a lot but I would think I am not the only one who is looking into mics with built in software and would like a video focused on such and maybe there are other options for setup that myself and others are missing. Just trying to give ideas for future videos/content.

I would like to say, I experienced the audio cutouts with this several times, but I just switched usb's of my audio interface and the BEACN Mix Create and it fixed it, so if you haven't tried some of you out there, maybe see if using a different usb port works, sure did for me thus far.
