The only 2 originals that I see are Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant.Donnie retired around 2013. 38 special are touring now.Don Barnes is only original left, they played Knoxville TN couple weeks ago,and the new lineup now sounds pretty good.Don Barnes seems to sound better than he did a few years ago.
Its sad new bands today don’t have his level of live talent. When your playing along with tracks it’s difficult for the whole band to rise to this level of playing because you don’t want to step on the tracks. I know this because I’m in a band using tracks.
Just saw them last week at the Shenandoah County Fair. Don Barnes is the only remaining original member. While I always gravitated to Jeff Carlisi and his beautifully lyrical solos and riffs, there’s no 38 Special without Don Barnes. Don can wail a beautiful lead guitar, as well as crunch power chords, all while crafting emotional song lyrics. I wish Jeff was still touring with Don, now that Donnie Van Zant has retired and Larry Junstrom has passed away, but the guys had some kind of falling out in the late 90’s that saw Jeff leave the band and never be invited back, sadly.
I got tickets for when they were scheduled to come to my state in October of 2022 but they couldn’t due to a storm. The concert got canceled for the second time in November due to another storm and I watched a concert someone filmed in Kansas City and I thought a live album with Donnie sounds better.
ah, the great .38 Special...I am grateful these guys are still keeping the torch lit...not the same since a few originals left...but. hey, I think these guys are still way better than their old compadres Lynyrd Skynyrd...
Don't think his monitor was up hot enough. It was like he was pushing hard, so he could hear himself singing. If you can't hear yourself... you cannot sing period.
It's Don Barnes only from the original band .Jeff is playing with a band called band x they have videos of him playing with paul rogers and mickey thomas.
Great musicians have always gravitated toward this awesome band. Great Show.
American icon music and artist - burned into babyboomer generation for sure!!! Still played every day 2022
Yes sir! Fellow boomer, they are great!
Don Barnes can sing vocals 870 is better than he was at 30
Thank you for 38 special

No 38 without Jeff Carlisi.

I am thinking of seeing them at Foxwoods in a few months, but it really would be more appropriately named "An Evening with Don Barnes". Just sayin'

@davidmichaeltaber And, neither does what passes for Skynyrd now. Not even ONE original member. All that's left... is the fricking name.
38 special is the greatest
saw them at the reading festival, 1979/1980 and they ripped the place
1982
Best
Sounds like they sped up If I'd Been The One, might of been having a little fun...
38 oitao
Who's that walking with the microphone stand?
Don is really shouting and straining his throat

Is that Donny Chaunsey on second guitar?
Don Barnes is not a lead singer
They are a great band but Don Barnes does not do them justice as a lead singer
that is not 38 special it fir sure is people playing 38 special but its not the band that wrote rockin in to the night
