  • I receive a lot of GP-related questions via email and I’m not always able to answer each one individually. Instead I’m doing my best to answer as many reader-submitted questions as I can via blog and video posts, as a way to provide the information to as many people possible. I call this the "Ask Crystal" series and here's the first installment.
    Melody writes...
"Been diagnosed with Gastroparesis for going on 2 years now and have been on prescribed anti-reflux medicines for 3 years..any suggestions on how to get off this medication. I'm so opposed to it, but without it, the reflux is too bad! My doctor says the reflux is because of my gastroparesis and is necessary!"

Thank you so much for this video and the channel. I have reflux and gastroparesis as well, and the GP was only very recently diagnosed so it is so relieving and comforting to know there are advice and support resources like this that I can seek guidance from. Finding this video and the channel tonight really made my week.

Comprehensive goodness here, Crystal! I'm looking forward to this series. I've taken your audio classes (which I highly recommend to anyone!) and have been following your blog/FB page(s) for a few years now. I always appreciate your refreshers and tips on living well with GP! Best, Kristin

Crystal, would you do some gp friendly food preparation videos like the one you did with the carrots and sweet potatoes, or some videos showing what you have for breakfast, luch & dinner. I think that would be very helpful.

PPIs contributed to me developing SIBO. Slippery elm, digestive enzymes and Candibactin BR have been helpful for my digestion and inflammation. I still have to be careful about the amount of high FODMAP, high fat, high protein and high fiber foods that I consume.

I have used aloe vera juice for about 2 to 3 weeks now and it is working. I used to have to chew Gaviscon about twice a day and now I drink 2 to 3 teaspoonfuls of aloe vera juice a day and I have noticed a considerable difference. Even now, I am constipated from the gastroparesis and bloated and the aloe vera juice is still working, when my reflux would normally be at its worst. I was quite skeptical but I figured I could give it a try and I’m pleased with the results. I bought It on Amazon and I bought the one with cranberry juice in it because I don’t like aloe vera juice Straight and it tastes much better to me.

Hello Crystal,I'm new to all of this-unfortunately just diagnosed with GP. I found your videos & subscribed. However,I noticed you said this was the 1st of your series which date back some years (what 6yrs) and I was wondering is there anyway that you could label or put numbers or something to these vids? I would love to go back and catch up. Sorry if I am asking for a lot. Thank you for sharing your wealth of information, & you do it so well.

CJ McLaughlin yes, i have been. I was on raglan when pregnant, but they have found it not to be as safe anymore and there are other drugs on the market that are safer.

Does people with Gastritis have Gastroparesis? I've been suffering from Gastritis for 4 yrs, and I don't have h. Pylori? I don't know if its low stomach acid making food sit and ferment (gastroparesis)but, I'm trying to figure out why my gastritis is constantly here? I'd like to try stomach acid pills, but can't because the gastritis is there? What steps should I take to fix this?

I have gastritis that developed as long as I've been sick with GP. The burning in my stomach started a few months after the GP. I think mine is from bile reflux and we get bile in our stomachs since our stomachs can't push it out fast enough.

I've had chronic gastritis (negative for h pylori) and GERD/LPR. I've had SIBO as well. I rely on digestive enzymes for foods that are high FODMAP, fat, protein and fiber. I believe I have gastroparesis that's caused by MCAS or Dysautonomia.

Crystal, I can't find it so I am suggesting it, how does Intermittent Fasting work/does not work with Gastroparesis? I personally have had great results but want to know if I am actually harming than doing good. Thank you!

Tonya, I think like pretty much everything else, this is going to vary from person to person. I don't think intermittent fasting is inherently good for everyone but if something works for you, then I think that's probably all the info you need. I think the best thing we can do is not be tied too tightly to any one way of doing things and instead make shifts in accordance to the guidance from our body and what makes sense in a moment. Hope that helps a bit!

what happens when you can't digest your pill medication. my son has thrown up pill product 24 hrs later. this medication is for his acid reflux, wich has turned to Barrett's disease. we go into for an emptying test next week. he suffered a 2 hour and 55 min vomit sesions yesterday with food and pills from the day before. I do believe he has GP. it's just a matter of diagnosis at this point. how is he able to get his meds if he isn't digesting correctly?

Stacey Forrester can they make it in a liquid form for him? My son had cyclical vomiting syndrome and could not keep his pills down. So when they were made into liquid form they digested much more quickly and tended not to come back up if he threw up. It seems that most anything can either be made into a liquid or crushed into a liquid and mixed with a juice or milk to soothe the stomach. I hope that helps

I have terrible severe reflux and Gastroparesis. I don't know how to manage it PPIs don't seem to help.
I also had fundoplication and my situation got worse. In fact I'm not sure if it actually caused my Gastroparesis or my Gastroparesis was before it.
I burp constantly and it seems like those burps bring on the pain too. Is there anything you could recommend? Great video btw, very informative.
