This whole thing is so sad. Home made alcohol was fuel, carrier for medicine, etc. The govt wanted Rockefeller to have a monopoly on fuel with his new petroleum product, gasoline. To achieve this, alcohol had to be made illegal. In turn for voting for Prohibition, the Congressmen were assured plenty of alcohol for themselves.
His kinfolk don't like the movie cause its too violent lol. Their grandfather was never like that they say. Its funny how most Americans don't realize how this country was built. They have these fantasies about their good clean wholesome predecessors. Only ruthless men could have survived bootlegging during prohibition. Men like Capone and Nucky Johnson.
My thoughts exactly. The Bondurant bous never talked about and Howard never brought his work home they said so how would they know how much violence they actually had to live. The story in the book talks about violence so how can they say they weren't violent men.
Or overlook that you can be a good guy, but not survive without toughness & loyalty, that is one thing that upsets me with the Church, a lot of them teach that being strong & fighting back are not Godly attributes when quite the opposite is the case.

Had heard several tales of Franklin Co... prior to becoming a resident of Bedford Co.
Great book. There was a pitcher named Bondurant in the 70's. Relative maybe?
